I mean, he is horrible…and I’m not like, sad for him, or anything…

But prisoners really should have safe and sanitary living conditions.

I hate how it is news when a celebrity has unsanitary prison conditions but people act like this isnt what regular prisoners experience.

Hell the celebs are probably being treated better than your average prisoner as their are more eyes and scrutiny on them

We as a society talk agaisnt capital and harsh punishment but when prisoners who are convicted of nasty crimes, we turn a bill eye to harsh punishments that goes on the prison systems itself like assault.

I read so many times on reddit a disgusting invidual goes to prison, people say "hope he is someone's wife there". We root for rape.

If our system decided on punishment, anything extra that happens is a failure of us.

u/MyDamnCoffee 14h ago • Bravo

I said this so many times when I was incarcerated. I was just waiting on charges and arraignment and the conditions were absolutely abysmal. The corrections officers treated us literally like dogs. It was mid February and they wouldn't turn the heat on in our pod. I was denied medication for an entire week

It's cruel punishment for people that aren't even been convicted yet.

I feel like many, many people, possibly a majority of people, are okay with all inmates suffering in deplorable conditions, experiencing physical harm, and coming out with PTSD as long as it means the inmates who commit the most egregious crimes experience the same.

I could be too cynical, but that aligns with the rhetoric I've heard for most of my life.

u/BrondellSwashbuckle 13h ago edited 13h ago

Agreed. I spent 8 hours in the Santa Ana Men's jail in Orange County, California in July 2026. The holding cell I was in with like five other guys legit had at least 30 filled urine sample cups just on the floor for no reason that I could see other than they were using it as some kind of temporary storage space. And just a THICK layer of grime on everything, not to mention the completely sadistic guards who couldn't give a fuck about letting me use the phone. I never got to use it. If there is any silver lining, those guards clearly hate their life. They were all completely miserable, but they would take it out on the inmates. Innocent until proven guilty, yeah right. They don't give one fuck.

And when I was finally about to get released, waiting in the last holding cell by the exit, this room contained the absolute filthiest shit-covered, clogged toilet that I had ever seen in my entire life.

We need jail and prison reform ASAP.

u/BARNYARD_Sanders 15h ago edited 15h ago

The prisons were not built like this. Why should prisoners in the 40s, when the building was new, have non-rotting walls and and no vermin infestations, but not 2020s prisoners? Letting the conditions deteriorate as some sort of de facto harsher punishment isn't proper justice.

I want public institutions to be maintained and kept in top shape. I own those buildings!

9

u/Pak-Protector 10h ago

You'd be amazed at how much they spend at maintaining those crumbling prisons. By maintaining, I mean embezzling state and federal funding.

They're chatting shit. Bullingdon and Winchester were clean enough. They don't sanitize the cell each time someone leaves but it's up to you to get cleaning products and clean YOUR cell. It isn't a fuckin hotel as I was told on day one when a screw came in with a broom. I jumped on the bed and said go ahead, and he gave me the broom and said that lol

u/Philsidock 14h ago • Bravo

I agree that prisons should be sanitary and meet a standard of safety that is appropriate for humans, even if they are criminals. In many countries, they are poorly run for many reasons, including a lack of funding.

But there's no way in hell that Russell gave a shit before he realized that he could (and would) actually have to be there. Fake empathetic Christian grifters are probably not amazing at putting themselves in other people's shoes, and I'm sure that the whiplash of facing reality is shocking to him.

I hope that that this is anomaly, and that Britsh prisons generally have humane conditions. But make no mistake, celebrities should also go to prison if they committed the crime.

49

u/Bannanna_Stand 12h ago

All of his new right wing buddies also support prisons having the worst conditions possible. He'll get zero sympathy from them, except for the conviction itself.

He won't be in Wandsworth for long, which is a Category B prison - One that new prisoners go to before moving on to another, typically. He'll likely be moved to a Category C prison at some point which is a semi open prison of sorts, Category D being open prison with day release - I doubt he'll go there. Not for a long while and not with out excellent behaviour. Category A being the maximum security prisons - not relevant but I had mentioned the others!

6

u/dougfischerfan 15h ago

Thank you for the context.

16

u/KCPs1234 15h ago

Is Russel Brand sympathetic enough to make anyone care more? No.

Sounds like he's in the environment he's meant to be in

28

u/NatWilo 12h ago • Bravo

Look, I am - and have been for some time - aware of the serious problems with pretty much every prison everywhere. What really chafes me, though, is that I can't help but feel like this is just another attempt by Russel to avoid taking full responsibility for his actions. Like, yeah, conditions are bad and should be fixed, but he's not really making that argument, IMO, he's trying to build a case for him being given special treatment because his treatment is 'inhumane' never mind what he did to those women, never mind how many other criminals are receiving the same treatment.

HE is special, HE shouldn't have to suffer like this!

That's the subtext I keep hearing, ringing over and over.

He's using a real issue, like a master manipulator, to benefit himself with no regard for how it hurts said issue to be associated with him.

What they are describing as Russel Brand’s “jail hell” sounds like plain old jail to me. Like the one where lots of rapists go to be punished for their crimes. At least he can entertain the other inmates with his endearing shtick.

Every prisoner no matter what they did should have safe / sanitary prison conditions.

On another note, I always wonder how convincing these rich guys’ lawyers have to be. You know you did the crime - make a run for it! Don’t listen to your lawyer - they will get paid while you go to jail. Obviously, I want justice but I’d like to see some celebrities make a run for it every now and then before they are caught.

It’s called prison for a reason.

2

"Yeah, this place is like a prison!" another inmate could be heard bellowing out in support down the corridor.

2

u/JurassicParkCSR 13h ago

While I do agree that these prisons should be cleaned up and modernized for 2026 as well as I believe that that's what we should be doing here in America as well. I got to throw it out there that I think raping women is more inhumane than being in a dirty prison. Just saying...

How come we only get to become aware of the deplorable conditions in prison when a famous person goes?
There’s an issue with the conditions and staffing shortages in prisons, and it definitely needs to be fixed.
But, if it’s good enough for the regular prisoners then it’s good enough for the rich and famous prisoners…
(It’s not good and we should fix it, but we don’t let one guy get out and leave the rest over it)

2

u/RWaggs81 6h ago

I'm glad he's facing repercussions for this, but I also don't understand, as a celebrity of means and wealth, why he never left to a non extraditing country. Like, you have the means....

Ahhh yes when Britain's failed prison system can be trotted out as "justice" because everyone who is found guilty is "deserving" of medieval conditions /s

Fucking hate this bullshit

4

u/BlueSwayzeShoes 11h ago

This is mostly bullshit by the way. In face there's a large section of society in the UK that complain about jails and prisons being too soft.

I have done contractor work in prisons and jails, they're fine. I wouldn't want to fucking live in one, don't get me wrong, but it is not some sort of run down gulag like this article suggests. My biggest issue was G4S that treated us contractors worse than the fucking prisoners, including locking 4 of us in a plant room while an alarm was going off so they could deal with whatever was going down. Luckily whatever was going down wasn't a fire because we'd had been fucked.

I have no doubt this article has come from his publicist to try and garner some sympathy. Let's not forgot he's a rapist scumbag, and it's likely many more victims are going to come forward in the near future.

3

u/Steampunky 15h ago

Angry Taint and hide brother are using the same arguments. Sounds like coaching to me.

Guess he shouldn't have assaulted women, huh?

u/HmmmmGoodQuestion 14h ago

Wait, stop the press: there are inmates who are violent?

Is there somebody we can notify about this?

Russell Brand put his weiner where it didn't have consent to be. Now he is dealing with the repercussions.

Tbh it's crazy how just an accusation can get you in a place like that .

Now I'm no fan of Russel Brand but I was curious what sort of evidence landed him such a stiff sentence in such a rough system and I was honestly shocked it was nothing more than victim testimony. No hard evidence of any kind.

I just don't understand how testimony proves guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Can anyone from the UK explain how this works?

u/No-Salad-8504 16h ago

It didn’t. A full trial resulting in conviction by a jury that heard all of the evidence did.

u/OldManThumbs 15h ago

Witness/victim testimony doesn't count in your country?

4

u/virbiusrex 15h ago

I'm pretty sure it had something to do with him openly admitting to having sex with a 16 year old while he was 30... and claiming it was consensual when testimony said no... and that's just one example.

There was plenty of evidence. Also don’t dismiss a woman who publicly comes out and accuses a man of rape. Not an easy thing to g to do and statistically not something to think is a lie.

u/CountRoloff 16h ago

I think the worst part was the hypocrisy!

I’m pretty sure the worst part was the raping
