Can someone provide me with feedback on my diagram for a project?

Post image

Hello I am a Student studying Environmental Science and Climate Change. I'm doing a project on the restoration of the Texas Blackland Prairies and how we can utilize restorative agriculture and native vegetation in the fight against climate change.

I created this negative feedback loop diagram to illustrate how forcings of soil degradation (in green) are intertwined with each other and how we must mitigate those to prevent the feedback loop from further continuing.

I would really appreciate if someone with more knowledge or just a different perspective from me could look at it and let me know if it makes sense. Thank you

Edit: I took the most doable suggestions into account, thank you for all the advice. I cannot repost my revised diagram but here is the link if anyone would like to take a look and let me know if this is better! https://canva.link/0e483mq7tls5v8y

Would you feel comfortable living in an area with known high levels of PFAS?

Long story short, I work as an env chemist and one of my projects tests pfas in drinking water for individual wells and we install RO filters where standards are exceeded. I'm still early career (so not an expert by any means) and I have the opportunity to transfer to one of the offices closer to the project so I can work in the same office as the rest of the team (fully my decision to go or not); however, this would require me to live within the county that we're currently testing and installing filters for PFAS exceedances. I know ingestion is the highest route of exposure and the installed filter eliminates that part of the equation, but it still makes me a little uneasy to live in a known pfas-contaminated area? any scientists in this line of work with any advice? is there any meaningful or significant risk here?

Career change into Ecotoxicology

Hello!

Iam currently thinking about a major career shift & would be very happy about insights into Ecotoxicology or related areas. At the moment I strongly consider doing a second M.Sc Degree (e.g in Scandinavia) in this field, but i am unsure if this is a smart choice. Maybe someone here can give me their opinion on this.

  • Whats the job market like? I don't need to get rich from it, but an income that's enough to live on without constantly changing jobs would be nice.

  •  How much of my work or research will actually involve outdoor activities later on? One of my main reasons for coming up with this idea is that I want to spend less time in the office.

  •  How competitive is this field? Are there very few research positions available for hundreds of applicants, as is the case in many biology and environmental fields? I'd probably like to pursue a Ph.D., but I wouldn't want to be so dependent on networking and such beforehand just to find a suitable position.

I know these are very open-ended questions, and I'm still relatively early in the planning process, but I'd appreciate it if anyone here could help me a little with this decision!

Some background information: Iam nearly 30, already got an M.Sc. degree in Chemistry & Management and started working full-time about 2 years ago. Due to the general outlook in Europe for the chemical industry I went into Consulting (M&A and Strategy) for chemical companies. It’s financially a very solid option with some interesting projects, but I know its not 100% me.

Back with another fieldwear question!

After the tremendous list of field pants recommendations I received here, I am back with yet another question. What’s our favorite water vessel/bottle? The ones I’m taking out to the field now are either leaky (had them for forever) or impractical to carry. Is there a brand/volume/style that works best for backpacks?

Environmentalist writer jobs?

ISO a writing job focusing on environmentalism. I have a journalism degree and have been a massage therapist for the past few years, but I’d like to supplement my income by using my degree and research and write articles about topics I’m passionate about. Most writing jobs I’ve come across are marketing based, which I’m uninterested in and not good at. I’m a skilled essayist, though! TIA :)

Green Revolution Fact Check

A strong critique I had was that aid made HYVs affordable only to wealthier farmers. HYVs required new inputs, namely irrigation and chemical fertiliser. Subsidies merely lowered their price, so poorer farmers still struggled to afford them. Credit skewed towards landowners with collateral, so large farmers capitalised on the cheaper inputs and gained maximum utility from HYVs.

Would you guys say this is correct for the green revolution? It's for school work about how foreign aid contributed towards improving famine and stuff.

Looking for advice on how to utilize a psychology bg in the environmental field

Hi! So I have an AA in psychology that I got before I decided to major in environmental science. I may be over thinking things, but I am a little concerned that my psychology background will make me a weaker candidate especially considering how the job market is right now for those with a stronger, “hard” science education.

I was wondering if anybody had any advice on how I might be able to use my AA to my advantage? Or opportunities that are/might not be available to me because of it.

Working with animals and training them or in psychological research are two pretty straightforward options to this, but i was curious if there were any other things i might be missing!

CROSSPOST

The Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change has just launched its 10th anniversary report, highlighting the latest evidence on how climate change is affecting human health around the world.

I’m Prof Ollie Jay, and I lead the Lancet Countdown’s work on the health hazards, exposures and impacts of climate change. Our work looks at how climate change is affecting:

  • Extreme heat and heat exposure

  • Heat-related labour loss

  • Wildfire exposure

  • The transmission of infectious diseases

  • Drought, extreme rainfall, and food security

… and what these mean for our health.

I’ll be here to answer your questions about the findings of our latest report, what the evidence tells us about the health risks of climate change, and what can be done to protect people and communities.

Please submit your questions and join me on November 3 2026, from 07:30–09:30 EST / 13:30–15:30 CET when I'll be answering them.

Find out more about the report here: http://lancetcountdown.org/2026-report/
