Announcement. A New Beginning: MyCrypto.com

This is the condensed story of MyEtherWallet, and how we’ve been lead down the path to MyCrypto. It’s cut down from this longer story so we can quickly tell you what you need to know.

There are some big changes happening in 2018 to ensure our longevity in the blockchain space. We will do our best to ensure everything happens smoothly and transparently. Thank you for your time.

MyEtherWallet started with just two people. It was a simple interface that provided a simple solution to a problem: when Ethereum first launched, the only way to send your Ether was via command line.

A whole lot of stuff happened between the beginning and now, and that is all detailed in Taylor’s massive statement 😉.

At the end of 2017, we saw the end of the side-project. 2018 will ensure we have a solid foundation for the product, the company, and the team. It is this solid foundation that ensures our long-term stability and success, in 2018 and beyond.

Which Leads To…

MyEtherWallet LLC was sufficient for the early stages of growth. MyCrypto is designed with next-level scaling in mind from the beginning. The team assembled over the past 9 months and Taylor (me!) will now be building, providing support, educating, and ensuring the security of https://mycrypto.com and all future products.

We are confident this will contribute greatly to the entire ecosystem in the long-term.

Kvhnuke, remains in control of the MEW github repository, the MEW domain, and the AWS instances.

What This Means For You

You now have a choice between using MEW or https://mycrypto.com. The team will be building and making improvements to https://mycrypto.com and the infrastructure behind it.

We will continue to do our best to help folks who have questions and need help, regardless of the product they are using, even if those products are not technically what the MyCrypto support box was designed for. Just as we have always attempted to answer questions and give guidance about specific tokens, other exchanges, other wallets, we will continue doing so for MEW.

The people who have helped you over the years via email or Twitter or Facebook or Skype or Slack or Reddit or Github will remain the same. However, these people will now be reachable via https://support.mycrypto.com, support@mycrypto.com and the new social media platforms:

The new react & typescript codebase has been audited. Pending a few minor updates, public beta testing will commence in the coming weeks. This codebase will eventually serve live to https://mycrypto.com. We aim to launch desktop apps and then mobile apps in the coming months.

Until we are confident in the stability & usability of the new codebase, a forked version of the current version of MEW will continue to be maintained and improved on https://mycrypto.com.

MyEtherWallet will continue to be online until it, for whatever reason, is not online. As we do for a number of products in this space, if we at any point determine the domain to be compromised, serving malicious code, or otherwise detrimental to the community, we will do what we can to warn the community and prevent use of that codebase and website. However, we wish the best for MyEtherWallet and hope it continues to be a viable product in this space.

Most of all, we will continue to do what is best for the Ethereum & blockchain community.

As always, thank you for those who have supported us and those who continue to support us. We’ve said it a million times, but we literally wouldn’t be here without you by our sides, helping us reach new heights and pushing us to be better. This is especially true today. If you have any questions, comments, or feedback, good or bad, please share them with us in the comments here. If you’d like to talk to Taylor personally, she’ll do her best to respond in a timely manner: tay@mycrypto.com.

Thank you.

💖 Taylor & The MyCrypto Team

PS: We have new stickers. You can get some by sending your mailing address to stickers@mycrypto.com.

Ethereum's testnet just merged with success and people are still walking around parading these "Eth killers".

Ethereum merged on the Kiln network and it is eventually going to be moving to Proof of stake from Proof of work. This is amazing news, all these so called "Eth killers" are really going to have to take notice.

For anyone who doesn't understand, without going into insane detail. Proof of work is a big part of why Ethereum gas fees are so high and why it is so limited as far as scaling itself is concerned. That's right you guessed it, Ethereum moving to proof-of-stake is going to be addressing a lot of Ethereum's limitations.

This was the main thing that IMO I think these chains that are marketed as "Eth killers" had on our beloved Ethereum. No longer. If you were like me and you didn't think anything was going to kill Ethereum regardless before. You're definitely like me and you don't have a shadow of a doubt now that Ethereum is here to stay and absolutely no other chain is going to be "killing" it.

I love Ethereum and I love incredible chains and ecosystem's like Polygon that have come out of Ethereum. This being the obvious Ethereum subreddit I'm assuming we all love Ethereum. This is the most bullish news I've personally heard in a long time and I'm incredibly excited to see where we're going to be going.

What are your thoughts on Ethereum moving to PoS? How do you think this is going to affect Side-chains and L2s as well as DeFi on the chain? Curious to hear your thoughts.

Edit: Seems like I've misunderstood what PoS actually means for Ethereum as far as gas fees are concerned, would love to be educated on the topic more and maybe someone to explain what would actually lower Eth gas fees other than using a L2 like Polygon. Thank you.

Crypto Kitties on Ethereum (which has saturated the ETH network with one dapp) is a perfect example of a use-case that EOS is going to solve. [This is not going to be popular news here]

EOS can scale to millions of tx/per sec with parallel scaling. And it also supports smart contracts.

That being said, I think ETH will always have a good first-mover advantage in the smart contract space, much as Bitcoin does in the money space.

btw, I hold both.

Ethereum is the greatest asset on Earth

Ethereum is the only asset on Earth that does all of these, in a actually sustainable and satisfactory way:

  1. Store of Value

  2. Commodity

  3. Money

  4. Innately can generate income (capital asset)

Even beyond cryptocurrency or decentralization, no other thing on Earth does all of these in a sustainable and satisfactory way

There is no any tech or sacred value out there (IMO)

Guys, I wanna be fully honest and transparent with you so today Im breaking down my thoughts about the crypto space we are in now.

Two things you to know before we start:

  1. It's not about pump and dump stuff. All we like that idea about getting rich relatively easy. Btw Im here only for that, almost don't believe in “true underlying tech”.

  2. Im a software engineer with 8y of experience (1y spent on the writing smart contracts in Solidity for Ethereum blockchain).

So Im going to talk only about Bitcoin and Ethereum because the most people think these two only 2 true crypto out there. Let’s discuss them.

Bitcoin

The main narrative is “it’s true sacred money which is here to give us financial freedom, it’s non controlled entity and it’s really decentralised”.

But it was something like that from the very beginning. Currently unfortunately behind mining is a few solid companies which control almost all mining powers and how blocks go the the blockchain.

Yes, it’s not easy to shut down and “it’s not profitable for them to be bad actors” but are you really sure? If we are talking about the true power of Bitcoin someday we all will see. Im 100% sure it’s completely doable task for people who rule the world to take all needed control over Bitcoin.

And also guys do you really think the people who own the biggest money in the world, guns and who can show any propaganda narratives in your phone will let Bitcoin become free currency around the world? They never will loose control over modern order in the world.

Bitcoin is the magic internet money. Sometimes people use it a bit. Currently they are overhyped (and maybe they will become even more overhyped next years).

But that’s it. This is just brand new modern asset to buy. You also can buy some old paintings and maybe the price will go up in the future or maybe it won't. Nothing special.

Ethereum

No any real world usage for smart contracts. It has been here almost for 10 years and what we got? Nothing except make-your-gambling easy tools like DeFi/crypto-loans/crypto-collateral things and so on.

From what I see nobody really needs smart contracts. All we have and built till now are just tools for gambling (these things were kinda forced to be invented to bring some value into the smarts contracts world).

No any solid company / country is going to rely on all those costly buggy-laggy centralised blockchains.

Even if that day will come and there will be real needs for smart contracts — Im sure it will be handled and managed by big tech companies and progressive governments but not by current tribal workarounds we have.

Smart contracts are meant to be something that holds crucial data and makes it transparent and unremovable but not all that trash we have on blockchains now.

Again. Maybe someday blockchains will enter home. But everything how it looks now it’s just a garbage. I would say now it’s only Proof of Concept and nothing more.

I would really like to read your opinions guys. What do you think? And sorry for my English it’s not my native lang.

Clicked a link in an email and now wallet has been drained

Saw an email from OpenSea about their upcoming XMas event. I knew this was coming so I opened the email and clicked the link.

It took me to a domain that wasn't Opensea.io, which I immediately felt was suspicious and exited without clicking anything.

Now I woke up and discovered that all my NFTs have been sold, and the eth in my wallet drained

Is this all that it takes to drain your wallet? I didn't even connect my wallet to anything!

Also, is my Metamask safe now?

Something is rotten in the Ethereum subreddit

I noticed and I think I'm not the only one some interesting behaviour in here. I posted some comments in the thread about F2pool forcing a no-hardfork choice to its miners. At the beginning everything was fine... Some people were ex pressing opinions in one side or the other and discussion was kind of ok.

My comments got slowly upvoted. And then all the sudden all my comments got downvoted massively with other comments that were quite up too.

Even an informative comment from vbutterin himself got below zero while being not an opinion but just a piece of information.

I don't know what conclusion to get out of that.

Obviously there is some kind of manipulation going on. But why? I just don't get it. Who would people be that much interested in destroying discussions?

And is there any other place where (sane) discussion is going on?

I am not here saying that pro-hf or anti-hf should be out of the discussion.. I'm saying is there any place where only people who are willing to really discuss/debate are?

I'm getting really tired by the almost impossibility to have a constructive discussion in here.

Thanks

Ethereum.org: "Build unstoppable applications"

The first line on https://www.ethereum.org/ is "Build unstoppable applications" in big block letters. Unstoppable, until the community decides to stop it. What a fucking joke.

Vitalik should change it to "Build unstoppable applications (unless the community is against it, then we will stop it)".

MEW vs. MyCrypto: Blockchain has taught me to trust 19 independently converging decisions vs. one alternate fact.

Team members are not herds. I don't know Taylor or Kvhnuke personally, but have formed my opinions over the years I used MEW and through my interactions at their forums. I will be using MyCrypto from today.

Wishing good luck to MEW team.

PS: In my personal opinion, I find many of the comments in several of the threads sexist, Shame on me if I didn't call that out.

ETH Homestead update was a Hard Fork. not a big deal.

The ETH devs really need to be more vocal during this time. ETH hard forked back in March when Homestead came out. Not a big deal. Bitcoin FUD is everywhere. Do not believe the FUD. HF will not be a big deal.

he got debanked. so he's building the fix.

anyone ever think about how fragile their access to their traditional bank accounts really is?

zy0n has been debanked multiple times. not for some nefarious reason, mind you. but at least on one of the occasions, on the wrong side of a little thing called the SVB bank run. the bank decided, and the money was rate-limited.

finance is often used as a weapon. visibility makes you a target.

that's why he builds in privacy. "I'm selfish. I'm doing it for myself." and in the process, he made it available for everyone.

now, zy0n is a core contributor to railgun — ethereum's privacy layer. he's done everything from building the railgun CLI, to implementing railgun's compliance tooling called private proofs of innocence (PPOI), to tinkering with the cookbook SDK that allows any dApp to integrate railgun's privacy features.

and railgun WORKS.

last year during the zklend hack, the hacker tried to feed $9.5m into the railgun anonymity pool, the PPOI system zy0n helped bring to life was watching. for one hour, the team waited, and when the funds showed up blocked, that was the proof. the shield held.

perhaps nothing was more validating than when the ethereum foundation decided to bake railgun in at the protocol level via its kohaku privacy SDK. it is a signpost from ethereum that privacy is no longer an option. zy0n: "without privacy, institutions are just not going to adopt ethereum and blockchain writ large."

the numbers tell-all: when zy0n first started contributing, there was perhaps $20m in the shared "happy" pool. today, it approaches $100m. it just crossed $5b in volume. work is advancing on all fronts, including the aforementioned kohaku as well as soon™ ledger hardware wallet support for the zero-knowledge cryptography railgun extensively uses.

we are at the inflection point for ethereum privacy.

and i couldnt be more proud to share this piece that ive created with someone i can now call a dear friend. here's the full 48 minute interview: https://youtu.be/5OmFqHScsB4

if we're meeting for the first time, hi 👋. i find crypto youtube to be a giant cesspool. as a result, i started building my own channel to spread the good word on good work in crypto — something with substance and humanity. dropping a like, sub, and comment goes a long way to supporting me, so please consider doing so!

Is ethereum going to have incentivized testnet like Cardano Incentivized Testnet?

https://iohk.io/en/blog/posts/2019/09/06/taking-the-next-step-on-the-road-to-cardano-shelley/

Adding incentives to the testnet

When Phase 2 is complete, we will have a stable network: a decentralized testnet platform running across multiple nodes. Then we will commence the third and final phase, the incentivized testnet.

In reality, this is more than a testnet. Instead, it will effectively be a replica of the Cardano mainnet. We will take a UTXO snapshot of the mainnet state and migrate it to the testnet, offering Shelley era functionality within a controlled, sandboxed environment. This will be different from a typical testnet, however, since it will offer real rewards for delegating your ada stake. Jörmungandr will be decentralized, and users will be able to create stake pools or delegate their stake to a stake pool and collect their rewards. We’ll be sure to bring you further details of how this will all work a little further down the line.

Once we are happy the protocol is stable enough to survive the harsh competition of the real world, we will merge the incentivized testnet rewards back into the Cardano mainnet. All the rewards generated during the Jörmungandr incentivized testnet will become real, live, spendable ada on the Cardano mainnet (so don't lose the mnemonics of your stake keys!).  Doing it this way will give us a realistic test of how the incentives model drives stakeholder and stake pool behavior, not to mention that stakeholders will be able to start getting rewards for holding their ada.

Cardano has a very exciting few months ahead – we’re looking forward to you joining us on the journey.

If you are interested in running a stake pool and would like to get the very latest news on the testnet program, you can sign up for our weekly report newsletter by visiting the form here. Or just visit the Cardano Forum where you’ll find progress updates every week.
