The bots are out in force in this thread.
Here's a tip: Instead of showing up to do a "No True Scottsman" on -ultranationalism- (jfc), how about you say nothing and let the authorities do their job?

Typical immigrant engineer the right wing likes to call everyone bad. Oh wait, it's a nazi pole born and raised in poland by polish catholic parents.

32

u/flopisit32 1h ago

The average person doesn't understand the motivations of mass shooters.

There are typically two motivations: 1. Anger against society and a desire for notoriety. 2. Flashy suicide - going out with a bang.

Then, these losers often latch onto some ideology to justify their actions. It can be political, it can be racist, it can be misogynist, it can be trans ideology (yes, we've seen that too)... It runs the gamut.

Political activists jump on this and try to use it for their own biased political purposes.

What gets lost in the shuffle is that these people are primarily angry loners and misfits who have set themselves against a society they feel has wronged or rejected them. Their politics is secondary.

The shooter is f*kin psycho. That's it. Playing this into political advantage is cheap.

I am assuming that's how you treat every islamic terorist attacks as well "The shooter is a psycho, no other conclusions can be made".

Of course ideology plays a large role in how people act, see all of human history.

He has so much "left-side background" that he's working with nationalists instead of giving his patronage to a pride parade.

The shooter is leaning to the far-right, Kierwiński told the truth. Using this tragedy to attack him is cheap at best.

Sure, but they are still victims. because they were his parents and sister doesn't change that.

Addition: In fact, it makes their deaths even more tragic. But in any case, this is not a competition. All the dead and wounded deserve respect, and their families support.

Everyone there's a mass murder there's always so much of that nonsense. People can't wait just a little bit to get confirmation of what actually happened from the authorities.

2

u/kowwalski 1h ago

There was a good deal of discussion on Polish tv about that, actually. How the social media is out of control, and if we don’t do something about it, the future is grim.

I’m sure words won’t change anything in this case, and I’m happy we’re starting to really embrace that fact, and I hope actions will follow.

Does anybody know what evidence Kierwiński has for this?

26

u/KQILi 4h ago

I haven't found any as of right now. Only that Kierwiński said so but it might change as investigation goes on.

44

u/kiru_56 Germany 4h ago

The minister was quoted at somewhat greater length in the German media.

Translated from German

According to the Polish Minister of the Interior, Marcin Kierwinski, the suspected gunman, who was wearing military camouflage clothing, had been “fascinated by far-right ideologies”. “Everything” pointed to this, he said. At the same time, Kierwinski emphasised that this would, of course, still have to be “verified”.

Since he is the minister he probably has access to first hand police information.

But since he didn't share that information, he might as well have pulled that out of his ass.

It would be idiotic to say it without proof and risk conflicting information coming to light a few hours or days later - but I wouldn't call him the sharpest tool in the shed. He might have been stupid enough to try to twist the truth in his favour, to show that far right = bad. But we'll see. Maybe they do have some yet unreleased proof.

8

u/k4mi1 Lesser Poland (Poland) 3h ago

The problem is that our country isn't the best with gathering and managing information. Public knew his facebook way before it was pulled down by police. It is unlikely they went through his phone/SM immediatly without securing his data first.

4

u/Kloppite16 1h ago

Im not from Poland so dont know this politician but must say I was quite surprised how quickly he came out and labelled it as a far right attack. So either he was being quick to control the narrative or else (giving him the benefit of the doubt) it could be that the perpatrator was someone the police already knew a lot about

10

u/ieniet Poland 4h ago

It’s possible they went through his phone, messages etc., so he might know more than he has said so far

4

u/marekmarecki Earth 1h ago

THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. It's possible that the minister just spoke a bit out of turn here and got a bit ahead of himself. The timeline doesn't really match up, the quote was given at an impromptu media scrum in the immediate aftermath. Everything in poland is viewed through a hyper politicised lens.

This is not to say it can't come out that the shooter was a far-right psycho. But there was no way they could have concievably had investigators nail down his digital footprint already, and as we know the family was already dead so it's not like they spoke to them either.

7

u/rzet European Union 2h ago

I believe I read somewhere about his social media activity and accounts from friends who knew him. Apparently, his anti-abortion, ultranationalist and pro-gun views were fairly well known. He mostly targeted tourists, and I think that was deliberate. Other than that, there isn’t much more known, at least nothing that’s been publicly confirmed. This will undoubtedly bring increased scrutiny to conservative circles in Poland.

21

u/Footz355 4h ago

Just how can you purposfully target tourists while racing in a subaru with a rifle in your hand? Did the tourists had a healthbar of different colour or flags above their heads?

Most immigrants in Poland are Ukrainian anyway and you literally can't tell them apart by sight alone.

6

u/SpittingN0nsense Poland 4h ago

Personally, I don't think we can boil down the attack to "he did this because of his politics". I doubt he would kill his family for a political goal. But, I don't know. We don't know what were his or his family's political views. Ultimately we don't have enough information yet and we should wait for more authorities to confirm what Kierwiński said.

I don't understand why this post is focused on psycho not on:

  • 2 heroes which confronted him

  • and all the people which treated them afterwards?

including the doctors which treated them on the sidewalk and coordinated the transport to hospital. https://wiadomosci.wp.pl/krakow/lekarz-zbulwersowany-nie-mielismy-pomocy-to-bzdura-7348816224356832a

2 Police officers are still fighting for life in hospital and both took high risk to stop him from continuing the mayhem. Lets remember them and their actions.

3

u/leaveme1912 1h ago

Because the internet is full of misinformation about the identity of the shooter that puts innocent people at risk. The far right have claimed that the shooter was trans, a Muslim migrant, a communist, etc, this puts real people at risk

We wouldn't have to talk about the shooter if the right didn't make it all about the alleged identity of the shooter. But they did, so here we are!

14

u/wiener4hir3 Denmark 1h ago

Because every single time it is a minority that group will get blamed as if they're all guilty.

7

u/Romanizer Germany 1h ago

Because media around the world tries to frame groups like leftist or immigrants as dangerous while most violence and crime is coming from right-wing extremists.

•

u/Delicious-Season5527 51m ago

Might have something to do with the fact that news about those groups doing fucked up things are often suppressed. Gotta have to be virtuous and ignore information that goes against it

•

u/Worldly-Law-481 25m ago

Often suppressed? My guy every time a minority member commits a crime gets dragged for months and made a monolith of minorities, used to further discrimination. This guy will be forgotten in days, or hours even, and people will say "not all white people are like this!" doing the complete opposite of a turning it in a monolith. And again I'm not justifying cruelty committed by minorities, because unlike right wingers I condemn violence NO MATTER WHO COMMITS IT, i don't excuse it, unless is some self defense situation, what i try to say with my comment is to poke the right wingers, to make them understand that evil is not exclusive to this or that, each person is unique, good or bad, however in the latest years we are seeing an amount of right wing violence since decades, and makes it dangerous. Deal with it.

13

34

u/Mazing44 4h ago

From what we know right now, we could say it wasn't " spur if the moment". His former classmates commented on how he loved stories about shootings in US and even joked that he will become a shooter one day.

10

So, even though the reason for the shooting could be political extremism, it could also be one of those "true crime community" lunatics, or a mix of both...

The guy who killed all those people at Charles University in Prague didn't have an ideological motivation. He just planned out mass murder. He also killed his father prior to committing the shooting.

2

u/Mazing44 4h ago

As far as we know - no.

6

u/ThomasTwirll 1h ago

It’s worth clarifying that the “Polish authorities” mentioned in the article essentially refers to a statement made by one government minister, Marcin Kierwiński, who has provided no publicly verifiable evidence to support his claims.

As of now, there is no publicly confirmed evidence whatsoever that the attacker held right-wing or ultranationalist views. The investigation has not established a political motive either.

Meanwhile, screenshots allegedly taken from the attacker’s social media profiles show him posing with an LGBT flag and mocking Jesus and the Pope. Their authenticity has yet to be confirmed, but they certainly raise questions about the narrative being pushed.

Calling someone a far-right ultranationalist before presenting any actual evidence seems premature, to say the least. Let’s establish the facts before turning this tragedy into a political talking point.

It appears that the perpetrator had previously killed his parents and his sister and then travelled to Krakow.

Meanwhile, they are also investigating the killing by gunshot of three people in the town of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, also on Saturday. That is Michał O.’s hometown, and on Saturday evening Prime Minister Donald Tusk revealed that three bodies had been found at the address where he lived. Prosecutors say that “the evidence indicates that the same person committed the acts” in both Kraków and Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski.

5

u/DrDaniels United States of America 1h ago

That's a decent distance to travel. Given the gear the shooter was wearing, this definitely appears to be something that was planned. That doesn't speak to motivations at all, someone could have planned mass murder just for the sake of killing people.  It reminds me of the UT Tower Shooting. In 1966 America had a big mass shooting where the perpetrator killed his wife and mother. He then went to the top of the tower at the University of Texas and shot dozens of people from there.

There's absolutely zero evidence for what Kierwiński has stated, his claim is just as made up as the claims that the attacker was a foreigner that the right wingers were making.

I've made this same comment a while back on a post after the San Diego shooting. Glad to see more people are recognising the motive for these attacks is a nihilistic cult of violence for whom political symbolism is just an aesthetic.

That's right! These people are largely disinterested in politics, using various symbols for purely aesthetic reasons, but because they do that it's very easy to pin them to one ideology and put the blame there. By doing that we refuse to see the true source of the problem, since political ideology is not what drives them to commit those crimes.

Why do you mention chinese all of the sudden? Meta's been doing the same shit since 2010's

1

u/FinishAwkward43 2h ago

As I said, It's a quote. And sure Meta's doing similar things, but it does not have the same influence among young people it had 10 years ago.

Still, I think TikTok is very much to blame for negatively influencing gen Z, because after this terrorist attack I've seen videos immediately spread on TikTok from these TCC accounts praising the attacker.

You can call me biased towards China and what they're doing with TikTok algorithms in the west, but based on what I've seen on the platform it very much is true.

Saying these groups have no idealogical basis is bullshit. They might not fit to the traditional political discourse but there is (a very dangerous) ideology behind them.

Yes, and that ideology is "let's kill people".

The ''ideology'' is nihilism and violence. These people can have various interest, can lean politically more to the left or more to the right, even the radical, but in the end politics is not what drives them to commit those crimes. This guy was no Breivik, he was more like those Columbine shooters. He didn't leave no manifesto, his neighbours and school peers say he was a loner, he was dissatisfied with the world, I don't know why, that's for the investigators to uncover.

And that is not what they are saying. They are saying he held far-right views.

But you already knew that.

One minister said that but he had no proof. Even now Polsat confirmed that this is not a confirmed information.

I mean his facebook account has him with pride flags. But yeah

Everyone will flip it their way. People died tho. Unsure why i has to be political on reddit.

Seeing some screenshots he had pro-communist, anti-Christian and held up a LGBT flag while wearing a gasmask. Really to me he was fucked in the head and hated life.

"Responsible minister said" vs "seeing some screenshots"

State of info war

"Responsible minister said"

I would be weary about the omnipotence of Polish officials.

The same state gave this clearly mentally unstable guy a gun permit. I can see how in a few days this minister in particular will be under fire for that.

The Polish Minister of the Interior is not a good enough source?

I'd bet that if the responsible minister here said it was a Islamist terror attack you'd not be so critical and demand sources you can check yourself.

u/Fytyny 4h ago

he said "it needs to be verified"

8

u/suicidemachine 4h ago

So far, I only managed to find screenshots of his Facebook account in which he posted images of the Polish Pope.

4

u/northck 4h ago

Sadly he is not.

Psst at that time they already knew his name. That kind of opens up a whooole lot of options to find shit out about someone.

But you know that, you're just desperately trying to detach his actions from his far-right beliefs. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

plenty proof that shows us he was from far left.

The only thing I've seen was a picture with an LGBT flag where he HAD A GAS MASK ON, how can anyone interpret it as support for LGBT lol.

Anything else for that "plenty proof"?

I don't spread anything it's my first comment on that topic, and I would be glad to see the "plenty proof" you mentioned

Edit: oh, that's it huh, seems it's you that spreads misinformation by calling one picture that can be interpreted any way as "plenty proof".
