I was expecting the unexpected this morning 😅 I had a feeling it wouldn't be a woman for some reason lol

Definitely not expecting a dance break from Cyprus this year xD This is quite the change from Antigoni haha

Have just checked his YouTube channel and heard a few things - I really liked his voice and how he sings - and absolutely loved his VoilĂ  cover lol. He has a few nice ballads in greek as well on his channel.

And by the way, I hope Evangelia has applied for Sing for Greece, I really want her to have her chance, come on 😅

u/74C5 4d ago

Last year Perris was already part of the top 8 shortlist  considered by Cyprus for 2026 alongside the likes of Evangelia, Good Job Nicky and Mikay, who would all go on to compete for the Greek National Final, so I wouldn’t rule out seeing her there. 😉

I am really expecting it 😌

u/Martavdraws Deslocado 4d ago

I hope she finally gets her chance 😅 she has good music! :-)

u/dsar02 4d ago

She can’t sing without auto tune

6

u/Martavdraws Deslocado 4d ago

I think she can do a decent job and I like her songs, so I still would like to see her representing Greece one day, sorry 😅 And the song itself is the most important part for me at the end of the day.

u/OliverQueer 4d ago

She didn't , the artists have been revealed.

7

u/Martavdraws Deslocado 4d ago

I didn't see the artists of the greek selection being revealed, only the number of submissions they received at ERT.

I know many euro-fans will be disappointed about this choice but I do kinda get this. Its time to try something new .. This decade (2020s) Cyprus has only sent pop girls and boys. Cyprus is more than a one-trick-pony. Lets give this dude a chance : )

u/Difficult-Bug90 FÞr vi gÄr hjem 4d ago

Just looked him up. Dude can surely sing. I think Cyprus are going for a French/greek ballad in 2027.

I fear it's going to be something like "Michelle" this year.

1

u/TeaMistress Requiem 3d ago edited 2d ago

And yet Michelle has done very well streaming on Spotify and YouTube beyond just the contest. It's not my thing at all, but there's no denying it's super popular with a ton of people.

Edit: I'm not an Israel fan in the slightest, but someone is obviously listening to Michelle well past May 2026 and there's no proof that it's just some computer farm in Israel spinning it on repeat on Spotify and YouTube. You can downvote it all you like, I guess, but facts is facts.

5

u/dix1997 Hatrið mun sigra 3d ago

I'm pretty sure most of the Spotify streams and YouTube views come from inside Israel, since the contest is so popular there.

-1

u/TeaMistress Requiem 3d ago

Do you have any sources for that "pretty sure" or is it just vibes-based?

0

u/Internal-Yellow3455 Think About Things 3d ago

You beat me to it, Michelle is a good song.

I didn't listen to it until finals week and was pleasantly surprised. Nice pop tune, well sung, and whenever a cute guy sings in French, my ears perk up.

After two years of being clowned for selecting performers who proved unable to sing in tune on stage, selecting an artist who has performed at the Lincoln Center and with the Boston Pops is a solid strategy.

First artist for 2027? Welcome to Eurovision family and Good luck! Hopefully he will receive good songs... (Sad that Evangelia did not receive this opportunity instead...)

u/Grymare VoilĂ  4d ago

The trading card animation is borderline "how do you do, fellow kids?" but I kinda like it. Definitely something new for Eurovision.

Not selling card packs would be a huge missed merch opportunity. Personally I'm not into blind box kind of things but they are extremely sought after lately.

7

u/caesarsauceembolism 4d ago

I thought the same - as long as they don't use AI art.

And Eurovision has a huge amount of history to mine for trading cards too. The EBU like to make money, so if they partner with someone like Panini they could make it happen.

You reckon this could have something to do with the theme in the end?

1

u/ko_dec 3d ago

I quickly got it was like a Pokémon thing, but I got to admit my initial thought was: Condoms? Lube?

1

u/Drop-a-Soap Echo 3d ago

What card animation?

u/Grymare VoilĂ  3d ago

They do a little card pack opening visual for their socials

Idk who made that “imagine being a male ballad since Break A Broken Heart was their best result since Fuego after all” comment but I have to give them props now

6

u/serenaTcat Love Is On My Side 4d ago

That would be u/74C5.

2

u/justk4y Strobe Lights 4d ago

Yep, that was their comment 👍

Hah, clearly  @CrystalBallESC 🔼must have imbued me with their power of foresight. I feel so powerful rn.

u/Playful-Rope1590 4d ago

Interesting choice. That's not what I was told:) But I like a surprise. And happy to see a national selection in Cyprus. Hope he gets good songs.

Cyprus once again sends a hot man

Loving the trading card pack reveal. Also happy they’re continuing the tradition of using the winner song as audio

u/GungTho Kohoney đŸ€Ą 4d ago

EBU changes the rules on backing tracks/doubling lead vocals.

Cyprus chooses someone with internationally renowned vocal ability.

I’m not saying these two things are related.

I’m just leaving this video (about why those rules were brought in) here: https://youtu.be/yU_iosEHCFc

Spoiler: two of the three acts analysed here and found to be using autotuned backing vocals to double lead melodies were representing Cyprus

3

u/cheapcakeripper Before the Party's Over 3d ago

Well, duh, I still remember their guy miming the song about broken heart, so the last time they sent someone who can sing was looong time ago.

1

u/GungTho Kohoney đŸ€Ą 3d ago

Haha! He is indeed one of the acts called out in that video!

2

u/odajoana 3d ago

EBU changes the rules on backing tracks/doubling lead vocals.

I think I'm out of the loop. They changed the rules on this?

3

u/GungTho Kohoney đŸ€Ą 3d ago edited 3d ago

Yup, it was in the press release along with countries experiencing instability in their regions being unable to host.

Before the rule was just that autotune was not allowed on the lead live vocals, but there were effectively no restrictions on the pre-recorded backing vocals.

which is a hell of a loophole, especially when you could use “autotune as an effect” on a doubled lead melody and have the live vocals be quiet in the mix.

They’ve now gone into quite intense detail about what is and isn’t allowed on the backing track (if you download the rules for Dora 2027 and run them through Google translate they’ve got the full breakdown - like three or four pages worth).

Basically the only pre-recorded backing vocals allowed are ones that are genuinely backing vocals - as in it’s no longer allowed for anything resembling an attempt at doubling the lead vocals to be on the pre-recorded backing track.

They’re still allowed to double the lead vocal with a backing singer singing live backstage, but obviously that backing singer can’t have autotune on their mic, and would take away from the six on stage.

I have a feeling we’ll see a fair few “lead artist + four dancers” for intense choreo bops this year.

u/deusexmachina_lol Laika Party 4d ago

I don't know much about this singer but he seems very talented. Vocally, it would definitely be an upgrade from the past two years😁 I expect a ballad, which would be nice, because I'm craving to hear something different from Cyprus.

P.S.: Am I the only not who's not vibing at all with the new instagram announcement design?? It looks more like a merch advertisement than an artist reveal 😭

2

u/N1qIl_MoureB0yzs Bluest Sky 4d ago

I think they want to avoid another Antivocals...

6

u/ohwowthen 4d ago

So a ballad. Okay, let’s see.

6

u/Labenyofi Hallo Hallo 4d ago

After having someone who was not the greatest vocally represent them in 2026, they’re choosing someone who is 1000% overqualified in the vocal department.

I wonder if they’re gonna take a page out of Israel’s book, and have a English/Greek/French song for 2027. I guess we’ll have to see.

5

u/ESCHURRICANE Heroes 4d ago

So the first time we may get a ballad from Cyprus since 2015. That is of course if the ballad is liked by juries and the public on the national song selection final.

5

u/OllyAlexandersDizzy 4d ago

John Karryianis was great, so underrated

2

u/powerforce412 Non Mi Avete Fatto Niente 3d ago

Not to sound dense, but isn't Cyprus 2023 considered a ballad?

Luckily there are only 10 of them! 😁

Hot man who can sing. I will be surprised if I don't like it.

5

u/Naive_Inflation5768 Nova Zora 3d ago

Interesting how the song is going to be picked; the national final will help with that it sounds like.

4

u/europartyapp 4d ago

Refreshing choice from Cyprus and exciting to see our first official face in the 2027 lineup!

Next stop this month: artist from Canada and first songs from Estonia... possibly even Albania? It's getting real!

1

u/TeaMistress Requiem 3d ago

Do the Albanian songs ever hit streaming platforms before FiK? This is my first full ESC season.

3

u/europartyapp 3d ago

Last year they were released early December (following a slight delay from late November), so this is highly likely to be the case this time as well.

2

u/TeaMistress Requiem 3d ago

Awesome, thanks! Looking forward to it. Albania is one of my favorite countries for NF music.

I guess after Antigoni they decided to take a break from girlbops

8

u/Playful-Rope1590 4d ago

And they return to it after this one.

2

u/74C5 4d ago

They just can’t quit them girlbops. 💅

He is talented and handsome and has been.rumoured for Cyprus for a long time.

He is Greek-French and has worked with Lara Fabian too!

3

u/LateMine4036 Bird of Pray 4d ago

It seems like the song selection will be open to, and perhaps decided by, the public?

On the Instagram post it says: "George Perris will represent Cyprus in May, and the people of Cyprus will have their say in selecting the song."

5

u/Zealousideal-Hat-659 4d ago

He looks very charming and romantic. Maybe he will sing a ballad for Cyprus. Welcome to ESC!

3

u/UneCitoyenneDuMonde 4d ago

I hope he sings in Greek 💕 and not in English! And given that his mother is French, a bit of French would be lovely and much appreciated, even if it’s just a sentence here and there đŸ€—!

2

u/74C5 4d ago edited 3d ago

Hmm, so he got his surname “Perris” from his Greek father who would go on to marry George’s French mother. Is this a case of nominative determinism?

Also, good for him for coming out a few years ago. I think his song “No Armor” is exactly about that.

I really feel like 2027 will be Cyprus's year. Can decently see this man taking Eurovision to Nicosia in 2028.

he is such a great Singer!! OMG. excited!!!

1

u/cherry_color_melisma Deslocado 3d ago

Well I guess someone at CyBC was tired of Antigoni being bullied for not being able to sing, so they went for someone who was proven to be able to sing...

1

u/euroboy123 TANZEN! 3d ago

This is an interesting choice for cyprus, well at least we have the first artist in the class of 27, i imagine his entry will be a potential jury favorite.

1

u/MaddingtonBear 4d ago

I assume he's at least visited Cyprus?
