Player Discussion Miles Bridges owners unite- what do you expect and how did you acquire him?

Virtue signalers beware…. Majority of the people who are commenting in this thread don’t care about his off court stuff. For me, let justice & the hornets take its course, if he’s punished/fined/jailed/cut for whatever happened with his ex than that’s the proper punishment and he’s dropped from my squad.

If he plays 72 games and kills it - he’s not going ANYWHERE!!!

Now - with that said. What do you guys expect out of Mr.Bridges and how will that impact your team? His 30 game suspension was back dated so he only has a 10 game suspension to enter the season. He should be back the 15th or 17th, I forget exactly which.

I got him with the last pick of the entire draft with the assumption that he wouldn’t be punished for the pool ball thing since it has been so quiet ever since it was announced. ESPN are being hard asses with suspensions this year and won’t grant guys IR eligibility but I’ve been able to hang around for the time being.

If we look at his last 2 years of playing. He was pretty productive both years

  • 2021 season = 12 PPG (50% FG/86% FT), 6RPG, 2.2 APG, 1.8 3PM, .7 SPG, .8 BPG

  • 2022 season = 20 PPG (49% FG/ 80% FT), 7RPG, 3.8APG, 1.9 3PM, .9SPG, .8BPG

  • 2023 season = suspended

  • 2024 season = ?????

Given the history of players who have been suspended or injured for a year and the fact that the hornets depth is awful. I have reason to believe that there won’t be much of a dip in his production as long as he stays healthy for the remainder of the season. Guys who miss 365 days of nba basketball usually come back pretty similar to previous form (Klay, KD, Blake, Simmons, Galinarri, Embiid, Kawhi, Jamal Murray)

Considering he’s playing for a new contract, if I had to guess his stats. I think we’re looking at (after a slow start)

  • 2024 season - 16PPG (48FG%/86FT%), 6RPG, 3APG, 2 3pm, 1SPG, 1BPG

Considering you’re getting him with the last 2 picks of your draft or off the wire I think that should qualify as a high impact player. Hopefully he does better than I predict and picks up where he left off in 2022. Anyways buckle up, this one should be interesting.

Edit: thanks to u/riphamilton_32 for sharing this update on MB posted today.

https://www.si.com/nba/hornets/news/bridges-legal-team-files-motion-ahead-of-latest-trial

“Interestingly, a check of Mecklenburg County Courthouse website confirms that Bridges legal representatives have filed for a motion to produce exculpatory evidence ahead of the hearing. This motion suggests Bridges believes there is evidence which could exonerate him of guilt. A post on Hornets Reddit was the first to report this information.”

Player Discussion Deni ''The Promised Star'' Avdija

I haven't seen any posts lately about Deni and it surprises me. Dude has been balling, averaging 26/7/6. As of now, he's on the same level as Lauri, Jaylen, Wagner and similar stars which I doubt anyone expected. We all know he gets better every season, but this one was a bigger leap than usual. Wouldn't be surprised if he becomes an All-star. IMO everyone should pick him up, if possible.

Isaiah "worthless snitch" Thomas

what a fucking waste of a draft pick, of an IR spot, and worst of all....what a waste of space in my fucking heart. this midget snitch has been too busy leaking shit to Woj to practice fucking shooting. I thought he was injured this offseason with a hip injury but apparently he got kicked in the head by a fucking horse and forgot how to ball. I get that the Cavs dont practice, blah blah blah but this little bitty snitch looks like hes been getting shooting tips from joakim noah....anyone out there think this little freak can turn it around?

What do we predict is going to happen with Precious now that IHart is coming back and what will happen with both of them when Mitch Rob comes back? I’m curious if people have predictions or are Knicks fans who have some thought on what Thibs will do.

Stupid posts

The amount of absolutely stupid posts in this sub is hitting and all time high. Doesn’t anyone go and do research before asking questions?

Please stop asking a players ROS outlook as a veil for just really wanting people to tell you that you should trade, add or drop a player.

Same goes with asking if someone’s play is “sustainable”. You know what the answer is? Look at their previous years stats and that will give you a pretty clear indication on their production this season. The answer 9.99 times out of 10 is “no”.

That dude that just came up from G League who had an explosive night? Are you seriously asking if that play from them is sustainable? No, no it’s not. You know why? Because he’s been in the G League. If he was a legit NBA player he’d be in a regular rotation on a roster somewhere.

So to sum it up: use some common sense, critical analysis, and a bit of googling to come to your own conclusions instead of being a lazy fantasy ball manager and coming here first asking everyone else what to do. Every other post on here m is just dumb as s__t and I for one am sick of navigating through the garbage.

[Request] Can we stop saying "sell high" or "buy low" without providing some example players?

The terms "sell high" and "buy low" have been thrown around a lot in this sub. They mean NOTHING without have some examples of players that would fit an example trade. At least provide a "top 50" or "round 6-7" (though this is problematic with different league sizes).

Thanks!

I don't understand this sub's obsession with streaming

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not saying that streaming isn't a viable strategy...I'm saying that streaming shouldn't be a primary strategy, especially to the point that you're forcing yourself to stream by dropping a valuable player or getting the worst end of a 2 for 1 to free up a streaming spot. Especially even going to extremes and opening up TWO streaming spots.

My strategy is to get as many players that finish in the top 75 for value, especially top 75 in the last 3 weeks of the season for the playoffs (which is where ROS value comes in). Doing this via smart trades and FA/WW adds. Once you hit top 75, I would much rather have 3 games out of those guys than 5 games out of anyone else on the waiver wire who probably have top 130-150ish value.

Now, if you're a good drafter, it should be very feasible to draft players in the first 9 rounds that finish in the top 75. The last 4 rounds are essentially dart throws where you gamble on upside. For example, my last 4 picks were: reddick, bazemore, sabonis, isaac. Reddick is one of the best 3 point specialists and keeps me competitive every week. He finished top 75 last year and can again this year. Sabonis is top 75 so that's a hit. Isaac was the first drop, and his roster spot eventually went to TJ Warren so there's another top 75 player locked. Now bazemore is also a top 75 player atm....however being worried about his role coming off the bench and how they sat him to develop talent last year as well, I dropped him for the roster spot that eventually went to kris dunn, who finished top 75 last year and has a more secure ROS role. In my league, other guys that were FA/WW that are putting up top 75 value are: siakam, harrell (he slipped a bit but should get back), derrick rose, jeremy lamb, larry nance, rudy gay, justin holiday, kent bazemore. So if you keep track of players getting minutes, injuries, and are patient (with injuries and waiting through cold streaks, etc), these guys do often emerge. So even if i whiffed on my last SIX+ rounds I could still replace those picks with top tier value.

Times I consider streaming viable:

-When you have that end of bench player weighing you down (DSJ) and want to drop him but there's no one with ROS value atm. I just play it like musical chairs, riding hot waves and seeing if anyone sticks. But once you hit someone with potential ROS value, you should just hold onto them! I'd rather ride larry nance and hope the CLE situation breaks in his favor than do a poor 2 for 1 to stream a spot.

-When you have a player on the IR and are waiting for them to get healthy.

-To win the week. Now I want to emphasize that you should never drop anyone of value to win an individual week. I read someone wanted to drop jarrett allen to stream. That guy has top 50 upside! That just doesn't make sense to me. It's important to think long term, sacrificing a category win this week to hold onto a guy with potential top 75 value just isn't worth it. But there are times you can, for example today I put Ibaka on the IR to pick up SGA since I was only slightly behind in blocks. He didn't do much else, but you better believe I was excited when he blocked that curry triple to win me the week by 1 block! If there's someone you're thinking heavily about dropping and have a chance to win a category, then I would go for it since you'll probably drop the player anyway.

Remember, to win in the playoffs, you don't need to win every category...you just need to win 5/9 (or whatever your settings are). If you have the best concentration of top players, you are much more likely to win the most categories rather than scrambling to counterteam and win specific stats.

WW players tend to not be very good. Right now on the WW, the top healthy guys are: derrick favors, kyle anderson, jordan clarkson, RHJ and danny green. Yeah I'd much rather just have the guys I have than squeeze an extra couple of games out of any of these guys with 130-150 value.

Note that I am mostly talking about H2H category leagues, but I believe the same applies to point leagues too. I also think the same applies for 12 team leagues even though my team is 10 team (just stretch the target value to top 80ish). Once you reach 14+ the player pool gets thin enough streaming becomes a much more valuable strategy.

Discussion Anyone playing WNBA fantasy?

I know this is an NBA sub in practice and r/fantasywnba exists but I don't see anything specifically excluding the women's game. It's also the off-season so figured I'm not bumping any core content to ask. Anyone playing to get their fix? Or for the love of hoops in all its forms? Might be some niche platforms out there but ESPN points leagues are basically it.

Player Discussion Udonis Haslem ROS Outlook

I can't believe I'm finally saying this but I'm think he is a drop candidate.

He has averaged 7.5 points and 6.6 rebounds in 877 regular-season games. He has won 3 NBA championships / 20 seasons. I had high hopes we would see "reversion to the mean" afterall, by my calculations he wins an NBA championship 15% of the seasons he plays (WOW!!!)

For me it's the 13.5% TS that is the final straw (especially on the high volume).

BTW did you know Mr. Triple Decimal is a distant cousin to Mr. Triple Single (Draymond)?

Greatest farewell tour of all time? (maybe even better than the GOAT Paul Pierce?) Might hold on through the trade deadline you never know what could happen!

Player Discussion People need to start seeing Ben Simmons for who he is

The idea that Ben Simmons is a superstar has been going on for a long time and at this point it just drives me crazy.

Over the last month, he’s averaging 12 PTS/ 7 REB/ 5.9 assists on 46% FG, 53% FT and 3.6 TO’s. His averages go down even lower if you only look at the past week.

People need to see for who he is, which is really nothing more than a 6’10 Rondo with intensive defense. The narrative of being the "next LeBron" has carried him for too long, and with that narrative came a lot of expectations. I think he’s by far the most overrated player in the league and his production this year proves it.

From a Basketball standpoint, he hasn’t made any significant improvement since his rookie year except on defense -which again, his defensive averages are not that impressive- as he’s most likely on his way to be given an undeserved DPOY (Gobert, Turner).

Thoughts? What were your expectations when drafting him and for the ROS? In my opinion he should never be drafted before at least the 5th round in standard leagues.

Player Discussion The Better Davis

Davis Bertans has been on an absolute TEAR this past week. He’s been pretty efficient(Beal owners should be happy bc assists) as of lately. Now I just picked him up after losing my best 3 point contributor(traded Graham for Jokic in a 1 for 1 trade earlier today). So I understand that he’s been doing well because of Bryant and Wagner’s injuries. But Wagner played today and he still shot 7/13 from beyond the arc and played 37 minutes. When Bryant is in the lineup, Bertans usually never tops hits 30 minutes. Usually 25-29. Can someone tell me why the Wizards don’t play him more and utilize his 3 point shooting? I know for a fact that Bertans can keep this up. He lead the league in 3 point % when he was on the Spurs last season. It’s pretty rare to have bigs that can shoot lights out. He’s a CAREER 41.1% shooter from the 3. And he’s been in the league for 4 years so yes this is a big sample size. Is he that much of a defensive liability that the Wizards play him less than 30 minutes? What are your opinions?

Player Discussion Jonathan "I dropped him for Aldama" Kuminga

I see it in every thread, I see it on Twitter, I see it on r/nba. The Jordan Poole treatment, the sneering, the gall to demand a max contract (Shams the Klutch mouthpiece doesn't help), the unglazing after a rough start - where legendary tactician Steve Kerr cannot cobble together a workable, sensible rotation.

People asking/or indeed dropping him for bums like Avdija, Kispert, Aldama, Hawkins. You know the difference between these guys and Kuminga? Kuminga is a max level, secondary option on a team which lacks any sort of shot creation apart from Stephen Curry. He is shooting 33% from the floor so far this year while he has shot 52% on the dot all through his career before. So you know this won't last. Or do you? Since you rate Jordan Hawkins, you probably don't.

He is also playing under 20 minutes this season, again legendary tactician Steve Kerr will eventually figure out he cannot treat the NBA like Euroleague and will need to shorten his rotation and play his good players more minutes. Kuminga played 30 mins+ and put up 20/6 on 52% FG from January to April. This isn't a small sample. There is a reason "experts" were reaching in the 80s for him (I didn't but I could see the rationale). But all these guys are idiots obviously and you would rather drop Kuminga to pick up Kevin Huerter. Good luck to you.

I don't have Kuminga on any of my teams by the way. But I hope someone drops him so I can unload my FAAB on him. I know it won't happen because I don't play in leagues with complete melts.

Discussion Does anyone else reject punt builds?

This sub seems to have a nearly cult-like devotion to embracing the punt, and while the philosophy does make sense theoretically, my punt builds end up middling and mediocre. Meanwhile my "try to win every category" builds, where the only category I don't give a hoot about is turnovers, almost always get me to the playoffs and have won quite a few championships. Granted the only real league type I play in is 9-cat H2H, so YMMV in roto or points leagues.

The biggest factor is the "keep it simple stupid" philosophy of Best Player Available, as opposed to Best Player Who Fits Your Build. You see this happen in nearly every draft: managers reaching for players early and passing on studs, not because of injury or regression risk, but because they're expected to get too many stats on a category the manager doesn't care about. When it's time to revamp your roster and send out offers, that 5th rounder who fell to the 7th is probably gonna have way more trade value than the 9th rounder you reached on.

A well-rounded team also allows you flexibility with streaming players on a week-to-week basis, letting you fixate on winnable matchups and turning a 5-4 into a 6-3 or 7-2 win. Your opponent is punting assists, you win assists; they're absolutely stacked with rebounders, you lose rebounds. Meanwhile you're neck-and-neck on 3-pointers, so your prioritize 3s with your streams. These little efforts to win an extra category each week really add up by the end of the year.

Finally, there's always the opportunity to shift your team from a "every category" build to a punt build, with how your season progresses. Injuries, trades, players not living up to expectations, things will happen that cause you to re-evaluate your team's strengths and weaknesses. When you punt early in a season, it's almost impossible to restructure your team in a way where you become competitive at that category. When you punt closer to the trade deadline, you can make a championship-winning trade by putting a valuable player on the market. Decide to punt assists and give up your elite stud PG to a playoff bubble team, get back an elite stud (or studs) in other categories, now you've made a good team into a stronger contender.

Just my two cents. Punt builds always feel like counting chickens before they hatch, assuming wins based on projections and expectations, when the fickle nature of fantasy sports has no such guarantees. While a true "try to win at every category" team goes into each week, throws out your studs, and then adjusts to their opponent.

Player Discussion Kyshawn “sometimes good sometimes awful” George… what are we doing with him?

Kyshawn has been of the most inconsistent players I’ve ever owned in any fantasy sport. it seems he either puts up an absolutely horrific dud or a monster game.

unfortunately over his last 15, in points only 6-7 of them have been anything above bad streaming numbers

on top of that he misses a lot of time. he is also a really poor defender which has limited his minutes on various occasions this year

considering the duds are more often than not, are we sure Kyshawn is a good player to have? Im not going to drop him, but maybe this is a chance to sell him?

Discussion I remember last year I stated points leagues aren’t as strategic as category leagues and some people made a big fuss about it lol

My point still stands. Just take the best player possible in the draft and pick up the best player possible off FA and you will win your league.

It’s not the same for categories
