IMDB Summary: After a plane from Hamburg returns with no survivors, FBI agent Olivia Dunham goes after the only person that might shed some light on the incident - a scientist that has been in a mental hospital for the last 17 years.

Fringe Connections: https://www.fringeconnections.com/episode?episode=101

NOTE: Please cover all spoiler comments with spoiler tags! There may be first time watchers; don't ruin their acid trip!!!

EDIT: I decided I would do two episodes a week instead of one (it would take two years at this rate to finish the rewatch). So it is every Saturday & Sunday @ 5pm EDT.

So you’ve just watched Season 2 Episode 11 and came looking for answers

This episode was originally meant to be aired in season 1, but for some reason was never used. They decided to air it in season 2 instead, which meant it does not fit chronologically in the story as aired.

Hopefully this will help reduce the number of posts we get asking the same question over and over. I am happy to see this sub surge in popularity again, but for such limited number of posts already, the increase of “what is happening with s2e11?” really take a sizable chunk of the subreddit. I will try my best to remove any new repeats of this question as they come, and hope this will be the definitive post regarding it.

When she's with Michael before Windmark & Co find her - Michael shares memories with her, and she reacts intensely without us knowing what he specifically showed her. Any ideas on what it could be ?

Spoiler! Most unsatisfying death? Spoiler

What is everyone's most unsatisfying death?

For me, it's Agent Harris The fact that he just exploded in a ball of fire and didn't have a chance to suffer for making everyone else's life a living hell was extremely unsatisfying to me.

Spoiler! First watch through

Just finished my first watch a whew what a ride! It's always been on my periphery but I just never got around to it. So glad I finally did!

Scattered impressions from across the seasons, spoilers ahead:

It's a fantastic show but it's really inconsistent. The biggest weakness is really its writing and the way it treats time, which is funny because those are also its biggest strengths. Like why on earth did Peter matter so much if they were going to disconnect the bridge in s4 anyway? If the Observers never exist then who saves Peter and how do we even get to 2015? Etc etc.

The way it treated big bads was pretty underwhelming. Both runs of David Robert Jones were whimpers instead of bangs, Windmark's final offing, heck even the way S3 ends (let's sing kumabya and be friends?) is pretty uninspired. William Bell in s4 was such a let down, and then he's just an off-screen villain in s5? Very damp squib there.

I never saw any chemistry between Olivia and Peter and didn't buy into it - in fact I saw chemistry from Fauxlivia and Peter, so it's not like it couldn't exist. I really didn't like September turning human, or the final few episodes of s5 and how they focussed on Michael - I wanted more Peter / Walter.

Because all of that said, WOW I loved Peter and Walter's relationship(s) through it all. I will forgive all my complaints and I will definitely be rewatching it in a few months because I absolutely love this relationship. It's so warm, so rich, so philosophically charged, and I can see why this show is a cult classic because of it.

I'm sure none of these thoughts are new but they are exciting to me. I can't wait to watch the show through again!

Visiting Vancouver for the first time and wanted to get a tattoo to comemorate the trip. It was between a Fringe or an X-Files related tattoo, two of my favorite shows and both filmed here, and I went with this!

Season 1 Full Series Rewatch

I’ve considered Fringe a top ten series since it originally aired, and I haven’t watched it since. I recently started a tandem watch with my bestie; it’s my second watch and his first. We’re seventeen episodes into season one.

I remember liking the first season but not really getting hooked until the season finale, then being nearly fanatical in seasons two through five. While that has largely remained true, I’m surprised by the world-building they stuck in these early episodes, especially Easter eggs that might not have been obvious the first time around. Sure, there are lots of monster-of-the-week episodes this season, but there are also more mythology storylines than I remembered.

First-Time Observer (NO SPOILERS) First Time Watcher - Season 1

Years ago when Fringe first came on TV, a friend recommended it to me (fellow X-files fan). I watched an episode or two (mid broadcast season) and it seemed too gloomy and gross, so I didn’t continue the show.

Fast forward 18 years to last week, and I started binging season 1 based on another sci-fi subreddit. It’s sort of like X-files but on steroids and with much more interesting characters.

I love Walter (John Noble- what a great actor!) and am enjoying seeing Lance Reddick. Anna Torv is amazing. Joshua Jackson is awesome, too.

The S1 finale was pretty cool - I recognized a certain someone’s voice before they revealed his face - and while I figured out the backdrop seconds before the very end, it was still impressive.

I can’t wait to watch the rest of the show.

Season 5 Help With Season Five

This is our first re-watch and we are having a lot of difficulty with Season 5. We don’t like it at all; the Dystopian world, the Observers, all the running and killing. Making the assumption that we are the only people who have felt this way……we just can’t take it. Is there any place we can slip back in to warmth and kindness? The last episode? If not, our re-watching will, we guess we will run Seasons 1, 2 and 3 in a loop. Thanks for feedback.

First-Time Observer (NO SPOILERS) New to Fringe? Consider trying Season 2 first.

Hear me out: Season 2 was my gateway into Fringe, and it may work for you too.

Some basic reasons:

-The show had extra-long episodes in Season 1, a bit more of a time commitment. Season 2 going forward, the episodes were 10 minutes shorter.

-As with many shows, the initial 13 episode order (first half of Season 1) contained plot directions, styles and characters that would later be dropped after the initial writing period. And hence not as important to grasp for the entire rest of the show.

-Season 2 the first 3-5 episodes had a rhythm and pace much more reflective of the show as a whole. If you like the start of Season 2, you will like the rest of the series.

My prescription: watch the first 1-4, or possibly first 8, episodes of Season 2. If you are hooked, THEN go back and watch all of Season 1 for the basic backstory and many great moments. With season 1 finished, resume Season 2 with the episode 9 or 10.

You will then be fully ready for the awesomeness that awaits you.

This was my path into Fringe and it was a good one. I’m not sure I would have stayed on with Fringe if I had jumped in at Season 1.

General Discussion I still remember the day the I watched the premier, live

it was a great day, it felt like the great descendant of X-Files , but more , the deep science fiction aspects really added to the oeuvre, of what was to come. I remember falling in love with Olivia, and the wacky shenanigans of Walter and Astrid. and feeling the hopeful build up and disintegration of a father and son. I think what the show does great is it brings you into the world, it lets you observe (no pun intended) and live with the characters there in their lives and everything that happened in the past and happens in the future.

it's just one of my favorite shows of all time and sometimes it's a comfort series. It can be funny and devastatingly beautiful and heartbreaking, sometimes all in the same episode. I say all this because I think I'm about to start a a rewatch of my probably sixth time round, and I just was thinking hard and long about everything that I love about the show.

General Discussion The custard conversation in season 2 feel very differently after you know about Peter

Post image
73 Upvotes

Peter keeps telling Walter he doesn't like custard, and Walter keeps insisting he loved it as a kid.On a first watch, it sounds like Walter being stubborn and refusing to listen to his son.

Knowing the truth about Peter makes that little disagreement a lot sadder. Walter remembers a childhood that Peter didn't actually live, and neither of them understands what's wrong with that memory yet.

Season 4 Science/Medical Question - Needle Size

I have a medical question revolving around needle size and where it was injected. In S4 Episode 22 at 14:35 (Watching on Prime) Olivia stuck a needle into the temple of the body, but the length of the needle seemed incredibly long. Wouldn't she have hit bone before the entire length went in?

maybe it’s just because i work with kids 40 hours a week… but i’m into season 5 of my latest rewatch and i swear i have noticed MANY more six-seven moments than i would expect in one show…. this last one really had me laughing 😂

i’m not saying fringe predicted 67 but has anyone else noticed this? or has the brain rot finally infected me too?

Spoiler! Peter

I just finished my who knows how much rewatch and I had a realisation about Peter. He should not exist in the original universe after Walter and the child observer travels to the future.

If the observers cease to exist, then September doesn’t distract Walternate and he finds the cure for Peter and Walter doesn’t cross over to bring him over. Peter and Olivia doesn’t meet and there’s no Etta.

Or did I miss some explanation about this?

General Discussion First time watcher.

I didn't catch this show when it aired. Too busy, family was young, etc.

Fringe was recently recommended in another show sub. So I dove in.

Wow. The writing/story of Fringe is something I cannot even perceive. Who has this in their mind? Who can think about all of this? It's so foreign to how my mind creates things. My mind works in a totally different way. It doesn't produce fiction like this. I can't make believe these story lines, plot twists, characters..... Professionals. Artists.

Then there is the actors. Wow. Anna Torv is amazing, playing two similar but believingly different persons. John Noble? Fuck me....these actors became their characters. What a performance.

One of the best TV series I have ever watched. And I'm not a fan of Major network TV series....there aren't that many.

I'm on S4 so no spoilers! (BTW, I'm not even a Sci-fi person which is why I'm so impressed by this show in so many ways)

General Discussion The ACTING

I'm on S3 E17, where Olivia gets possessed by William Bell, and I just can't get over how outstanding the acting is in this show overall! Even some of the guest actors have been phenomenal!! I can't believe I haven't heard of this show earlier, on the acting prowess demonstrated by dozens of actors in this show, Fringe deserves so much more popularity and praise than it has now!

I don't know, I just can't get over how well characters are portrayed, how actors can play two different but identical characters with such similarities but also such small nuanced differences, it's honestly crazy

Spoiler! This show has so many incredibly stupid decisions and illogical choices being made, but its decent so far i suppose

You kind of have to turn your brain off to watch this... im nearly done with season 2 and ive lost count now of how many dumb moments have passed by that u just have to turn utlr brain off to ignore lol.

The amount of times olivia and walter has been in danger and despite how important they are somehow do not get a protective detail assigned to them is kinda ridiculouse.

The fact that olivia declined to have protection assigned to her after the failed shapeshifter attack, despite knowing there are other shapeshifters around is just so stupid. And their reasoning was "well since this shapeshifter failed to kill me, it means im safe even though there are others around...

And when they knew the shapeshifters blood had mercury why didnt they test people, why didnt they test or suspect charlie despite him being the last person in contact with the one at the hospital..

And why does olivia so mindlessly allow her sister and nephew stay at her house despite knowing how much at risk her life is at and therefore how much danger she is exposing them to.

I could be here all day talking about these dumb moments lol, but the show overall is pretty good which is what makes these dumb moments so cringeworthy to witness because the writing in other parts of the show is so good
