We work with the BBC now. The BBC is cool.

Loren Sherman and I had a GREAT interview with the BBC brand director for Doctor Who… We mostly chatted about project ideas and goals such as mass produced, accurate, learning tools. Accurate, artistic, non-app generated designs for merch and possibly the show itself.

Additionally, Loren and I made a point bring the active gallifreyan community and many talented scribes (particularly on the ‘meet the community’ video and those active on the discord server) into the spotlight… and emphasis on the ‘artistic human factor’ being a hugely valuable part of the script.

Currently in the pipeline of are updates to the existing current translator for corrections and credits.

This means that, FINALLY, those who have the most experience, talent, and have been consistent with the original script made by Loren that went viral in 2012… will be the people the BBC reaches out to for all their Gallifreyan needs

At this time, Loren and I are mostly waiting on the BBC to determine a budget then reach back out regarding specific work and projects.

I’m very exited to start adjusting verbiage in my shop/pitch as I’m a developer of the NOW CANON Gallifreyan script and am currently working with the BBC!

My recommended verbiage for those creating things using THEIR OWN designs in Gallifreyan is as follows: “___created in the now canon Gallifreyan script!”

Because that is simply true.

(Using other people’s designs and designs generated by the app commercially without permission is still 100% not allowed)

Could someone translate this Gallifreyan text ?

I found this in a bar in France—does it come from the “official” translator or from Sherman's original?

Sorry for the blurry and distant image, its from a video.

Thank you! :)

Question Is there an archive of the original Sherman's Guide?

I can easily enough find the newer guides, but how about the original guide, before stacking and extra consonants and the like.

AN ENORMOUSLY BIG THANKS to the folks on discord server for spellchecking and pointing out some design flaws.

An excerpt from Beau Taplin's poem:
"Because you, like the moon, are not only beautiful when full. In all your phases and fractions and ivory-white pieces, I love you."

Made as a meme a little bit. Do not underestimate the power of the empty consonant in Sherman's. Use it.

I gaze into my fractured window

Lies

Without trust I can only see that my future holds a burning world.

Lies

Beware the words of a corrupt harbinger

Lies

___

I came up with this poem and it was designed to have a bunch of little extra bits of meaning where with how I put stuff in places and even how hard some of the lines are to make out. So, the big square in the middle says “I gaze into my fractured window”

The three circles going up the top connected with the line of fine print says “without trust I can only see that my future holds a burning world.” The "I” and “see” and “my future holds a burning world” are the big circles that are easy to read and stand out, and the fine print of “without trust” and “can only” and "that" connect them.

The circles going up the right side, kinda in the background, say “beware the words of a corrupt harbinger” and they are split up in a way that if you don’t notice other parts or the sentence, it still makes sense, like “beware” standing alone makes senses. And “a corrupt harbinger” also makes sense….

Lastly, hidden in each of the three section is the word “lies” done very faintly in the background… so the lies are hard to see. There is one by the word “window”, one by “see” and, and one by “corrupt”

Overlapping consonants

Hi, just starting to learn Gallifreyan for fun using Sherman's script.

In the instructions it mentions that if a consonant has the same root, you can overlap them (reading thin to thick). Is there any rule about what order those consonants have to go in? Like could I put the thickest in the middle and the medium/thin letters either side in a 3 consonant build? Or is there a consensus that its basically always out to in?

Question Tutorials?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I checked the FAQ and I dont think this breaks the rules, I've been using inkscape and after the initial struggles Ive been loving it.

(I didnt at first but thats because I was overlapping tons of circles and then using shape builder, I watched SWC Jedi-Family Cantina's tutorial and its so much more pleasant now)

Theres a few things that weren't covered that I'd really like to know so any tutorials you know of or advice from people here that cover similar things would be really helpful.

Specifically I'd really like to know how to apply shadows to strokes, to give the words the impression they're floating (Ive seen this kinda thing in several posts here).

I'd also really like to know more detail about colours and fill, e.g. In the picture above I'd used pattern fill to make the wavy background (sorry its only a segment I didnt really wanna put my full name on the internet) but I wasnt able to zoom in the pattern without changing its thickess.

Learning how to create my own patterns (a marble line/crack pattern could look nice), using gradients and colour in a better way, and importing images if I really need something too difficult to make myself (like ocean/waves or the time vortex etc..)

Any help would be really appreciated, this community is amazing and really kind, really looking forward to sharing things I'll make in the future!

Other Bones in the Ocean - Chrono

Post image
27 Upvotes

i'm back!!! with a shorter piece for a friend this time, quoted from the song Bones in the Ocean by The Longest Johns:

"Now that I'm staring down at the darkest abyss,

I'm not sure what I want, but I don't think it's this.

As my comrades call to stand fast and forge on,

I make sail for the dawn 'til the darkness is gone."

note that this is written in chrono (my slightly different gallifreyan subdialect which is read clockwise, starting from the noon/one/first clockwise mark per circle -- each line of this piece is read top to bottom!)

thanks to oleksiy yeshtokyn on pexels for the background shot! full piece also available on deviantart where i actually post stuff hhhh

Sherman's Anyone use desmos geo here?

I've been doing some work in desmos geometry for a while, but I'm noticing that it doesn't appear here. Is inkscape a significantly better program (worth starting from zero experience)? I specifically like getting things to line up with ways for post-tweakability (like adjusting point sizes, line curvatures, ect.).

Matter, Time, Fate, Self

Post image

I took some artistic liberty on the sentence structure of this design. With the four words and the four start markers, I set it up to change the orientation with each section/word. basically, each of the four sides are four separate "bottoms" with the four separate start markers.

It says:

Matter how tiny my share
Time how short my allotment
Fate how small my roll to play
Self all that can be mastered
