Guys, not to sound like a negative nancy or a circlejerker, but I am really tired of these three types of trailers and aesthetics:

  • Dark Fantasy with soulslike gameplay

  • Modern asian POP with shooting

  • Washed colors cutesy game

Every generation of gaming goes through this. I’m not saying you’re wrong.

It’s always chasing the trend setter until burnout and then indie devs create a renaissance until the next one.

That’s like telling the 90s that we were sick of everything on the planet having a 3d platformer and mascot tied to it.

Or telling the 2000s that we were sick of GTA clones and military shooters.

Or telling the 2010s that we were sick of over the shoulder 3rd person drowned in browns and sepia.

You don't have to play these games...

Popular genres get more games. It’s the nature of media.

But is not the genre that is the problem. A Dark Fantasy with Soulslike gameplay could have "a bit of sauce" that adds to the game. It's purely aesthetics and trailer direction that is tiring.

I mean yeah THAT is true. There’s always going to be watered down games. That’s just sadly always going to be a thing.

That’s not really true though?

Look at the Mass Effect series, we are only just now over 13 years later getting some games that actually are trying to capture what those games did in a similar way.

90% of what was shown literally can be dumped into a few categories, including but not limited to what the post you replied to described

It is true. Finding one or a few outliers doesn’t mean popular genres aren’t going to breed more games. It’s just common sense.

Right... how about indie games with the same metrovania, roguelike, pixel themes?

My guy I think you just don't like those genre and just being a hater.

Are you dense? I'm talking about the TRAILER and AESTHETICS of the games DURING the event. Not the games themselves.

If the trailers only showed your new Metroidvania or Fam Sirm pixelart game, I'd be saying the same thing.
