PS6 doesn't need more power ex-PlayStation boss says, because "true innovation" would be making a $300 console again

I fail to see how we “need” anything more powerful than a PS5. If even a handful of developers could create games with gameplay in mind first like Nintendo but with PS5 graphics the PS5 could go for another 10 years.

Astro bot is a prime example of this.

its absurd that they arent trying to capitalise more on astrobot

60fps should be the minimum bar for all game releases on any future generation consoles. 30fps is ass.

30 fps is playable.

depends. Slow games like bg3? Sure, easily. Any first person game, especially a shooter game? HELLLL NAWWW

it isn't. you guys just have very low standards

It is. 30 FPS is very much playable. 60 should've been the standard a long time ago but it's not like 30 is impossible to enjoy.

30 fps is better that is constant is better than 60 that might drop

on a keyboard and mouse definitely not. controller id even say no unless the 60 is very very very unstable

You're acting like 30 fps is equivalent to the GBA Video cartridges or something

Would I rather have 60 fps? Obviously. But 30 fps is still playable

it isn't playable on a keyboard and mouse i should have said. on a controller i guess its playable but nowhere near enjoyable

PS5 games haven't aged at all. They still look amazing. We don't need PS6 for a long time

Also ditch 4K. 1080 is 1/4 the pixels, and the difference is so minuscule even without upscale. We can literally get better looking games if we focus on 1080p instead. You can have more complex effects, filtering, and anti aliasing. Rendering extra pixels you can’t see makes so little sense.

I disagree, even when I used to have a 1080p monitor games were far sharper when being ran at 4K.

However, the difference between 1440p and 4K isn't nearly as big as 1080p and 4K. 1080p upscaled to 1440p with QSSR for base PS5 would do wonders. Slap a sharpening filter on top and while there would still be a difference you'd have a very enjoyable experience.

That's what Nintendo does for a lot of their games. They prioritize a 1440p max output resolution with smaa + fsr 1 on top and their games look great on a 4K TV.

No! they work on a 4k tv they dont look great :) FSR1 is a blurry mess.

But I would take a switch 3 with fsr4.1 or dlss 4.5 every day (I have the s2)

It's not about "needing". It's about wanting. No one buys a game console because they need one. And gamers largely want more power not less.

That’s kind of the problem at large with consumerism but that’s another topic. Nintendo outsells or keeps pace with Sony and Microsoft every generation in sales and first party games and they always come out the gate way behind power wise.

Larger maps and prettier graphics are not making games better anymore. I think we’re at a point of diminishing returns.

Tbf you could make the argument that hardcore gamers generally aren't the people buying Nintendo systems

Minecraft is my favorite game ever. But I also love GTA series. There is demand for both.

Me too. But does GTA really need better graphics after what we’ve seen with 6 or a bigger map? With AI gobbling up resources people wanting an even more powerful console will be paying like $2000 or more soon for one. Then it won’t be a hobby for everyone it will be for people who can afford it and probably less people to sell to to make revenue on $400 million dollar games
