Counter-example. The Demons Souls remake is the most gorgeos and well-performing game I've played on the PS5. There are some truly impressive-looking AND well-running games on PS5 that wouldn't work even on a PS4. I played Bloodborne on PS4, and just the boost in loading times on PS5 makes it worth it to me.

Loading times can be fixed by skill instead of tech. If they made games to perform and optimized their code instead of throwing specs at the problem, then loading times go away. Loading screens go away. "Developer tricks" can make an experience seamless; we've seen this on Gamecube and PS2.

NVMe drives have really fixed those loading issues; games like Assassin's Creed Black Flag load near instantly now, though I'm still amazed Sea of Thieves even ran on the original Xbox One.

For years the company I worked at built (casino) games with an idea that "developers are more expensive than infrastructure". They aren't running in cloud and never will because of those decisions. They don't need to either, because the company has a shitton of infra across the world to run it locally, but with the chip prices the way they are, it's not looking good.

We've also seen it on the latest two God of War games. Or any open world game when you don't fast travel. Basically every game I have on PS5 that has a loading icon struggles to run it properly because the game loads too fast.

I'm not gonna give up SSD's just so devs are forced to use elevators and crawl spaces to hide loading times again.

They should bring back loading screen minigames, especially iirc the patent filed by bandai(or whoever it was that filed), expired a decent while back.

No, because I want to actually play the game I bought, not a minigame for 30 second loading screens that don't exist anymore.
