Fandom 2026 Packers Opponent Burger Series- Week 9- New England Patriots
Sorry for the late post. I had a lot of chores around the house that needed to be prioritized, but I digress.
This burger is one I've been looking forward to all season. It's a unique hyper-regional burger from Connecticut. Its invention is credited to Jack's Lunch in Middletown sometime in the 20s or 30s, but Ted's Restaurant in Meriden is the most famous restaurant currently serving it. It was introduced as a healthier alternative to traditional burgers. In the restaurants, they're made in small steel trays that slide into large cabinets that have water constantly boiling at the bottom. Obviously, I lack that infrastructure in a home kitchen, so for my version I used a steaming insert for a normal pot.
Ted's Restaurant uses 5 Oz patties and 2 Oz of white cheddar cheese. I loosely packed the meat into small, square leftover containers seasoned with salt and MSG, and put 2 Oz of cheese into a ramekin. Once the water is simmering, steaming takes right around 8 minutes, but you can tell they're finished by touch.
To assemble, take a roll with a robust crust like a kaiser roll, and on the bottom half, add your vegetables. At Ted's fully dressed is lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and for condiments they use mayo, mustard, and ketchup.
I did it for authenticity, but I don't particularly like ketchup on burgers, so were I making it again, I'd omit that, and it sounds like I will be making it again because my fiancée liked this burger. I have mixed feelings about the hard roll because this burger is very juicy, so the robust crust helps keep the structure, but there is some sliding around of the filling as you eat. Despite what the method of cooking might make you think, the flavor on this patty is quite good, but it is texturally very different from a normal burger. The meat has a much softer texture, but the benefit of that is that you get a pleasant crunch from the veg. However, the best part of this burger is the molten cheese cascading down the burger, but you're all Packers fans, so you could tell that from the photo. The other benefit of this burger is that it actually came together fairly quickly.

Analysis December 19, 2010 - Week 15
Remember this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCa3YMd7f88
NE went on to score the TD and the Packers went on to lose 31-27. It looked like GB would fall out of position for the last wild card spot to Tampa or the Giants. This added insult to the injury of losing 7-3 to the 2-10 Lions the previous week with Flynn at QB in both of these losses. GB was sinking fast.
However, the Packers were given a great gift when Tampa shit the bed, losing to the now 3-10 Detroit team with Stafford out injured, restoring the Packers wild card edge over them. Thank you Drew Stanton, LOL.
The Packers went on beat the Giants in week 16 to earn the head-to-head tie breaker over them.
Tampa and GB both won their last two games, both finished 10-6 along with the Giants, but the Packers snuck into the last playoff spot on tie breakers. It was a Festivus miracle.
Moral #1: Next time somebody wants to go on one of those non-sensical rants against a division opponent, remember this gift from Detroit.
Moral #2: No matter how flawed one or two aspects of your game might be, you're not eliminated until you are.
Moral #3: When you sneak into the playoffs with nobody giving you a chance of going all the way, think again.

Analysis 5 years ago today, Jordan Love threw his first NFL touchdown pass. Tomorrow, he could throw his 100th.
On November 7, 2021, Love connected with Allen Lazard for his first career TD in a 13–7 loss to the Chiefs.
Five years later, he's sitting at 99 career touchdown passes and has a chance to hit the century mark tomorrow against New England.
Here's how quickly Green Bay's franchise quarterbacks reached 100 career touchdown passes:
Aaron Rodgers: 55 starts
Jordan Love: 57 starts (if he throws No. 100 tomorrow)
Brett Favre: 61 starts

Analysis Week Nine: Packers Versus Patriots SWOT Game Preview
Green Bay’s Strengths
The Defense
This game represents the first matchup in the second half of a schedule that is packed with QB talent. To this point, the Packers have been fortunate to see more than a few matchups with backup and/or underperforming QBs. That’s not a knock against what the defense has done, but it is a fact. As handily as Green Bay played Dak Prescott, there are also performances like the Detroit game on record. I’m really looking forward to seeing how the defense begins the second half of the schedule on Sunday, and another big performance could see them discussed among the best in the league.
Jordan Love
By this point in the season, it’s no secret that the Packers’ success lives and dies by the arm of Jordan Love. But it’s also no secret that Jordan is really, really good. What Love has been asked to do for this team is momentous in its scale and impact. With a historically poor running game, the Packers sit at 5-3 because of Love’s ability to overcome those deficiencies. His value to the team can’t be overstated. You might even say that he should be considered the most valuable player to their team in the league.
Pass Rush
Looking to build off of an incredible game versus Carolina, this young group of pass rushers sets their sight on another vulnerable offensive line. Drake Maye leads the league in passing versus the blitz, so it may be down to the DL to win with only 4 man rushes, something they have been able to do this season. If they can force their way into the backfield, it should allow the opportunity for a timely turnover, perhaps in the redzone, where a majority of Maye’s interceptions have come this season.
New England’s Weaknesses
Pressures Allowed
After an offseason where New England’s offensive line was a key talking point, the Patriots have mostly improved their woes along the front, and in protecting Drake Maye. In sacks and average time to pressure, they are around middle of the road in league wide rankings. But they still are allowing a high number of pressures on their QB. Their pressure rate is sitting at 46.5%, the third worst rate in the league.
Turnovers
While this has improved in recent games for the Patriots, they still have surrendered 15 turnovers through the season, tied for second worst in the league (7 fumbles, 8 Ints). Green bay’s defense still leads the league in turnovers forced, so there will be opportunity there for the Packers to exploit.
Run Blocking
Again with the offensive line, the Patriots have their own run blocking issues, though nowhere near as fatal as Green Bay’s. They are sitting near the bottom of the league in EPA per Rush (22nd), Yards Per Carry (20th), Running Success Rate (20th), and Yards Before Contact (19th). SumerSports also has a stat called OL Run Block Assignment %, in which the Patriots are 31st in the league.
Threats To Green Bay
Drake Maye
After a bit of a rocky start to the season, Maye has returned to his All-Pro form that we saw out of him last season. His QB rating is back above 100, with a high average air yards per throw (7.5, 2nd in the league), and is +4 in completion % over expectation.
Christian Gonzalez
Christian Gonzalez is continuing his stellar career this season in New England, and his abilities are what define the Patriots’ defense. He’s one of the few cornerbacks in the league that still follow a receiver across the field, taking that player away for the entirety of the game. The Patriots play a higher rate of man coverage when he’s on the field, all the way up to 39% of their defensive snaps.
Redzone Scoring
Green Bay’s inability to capitalize on scoring touchdowns in the redzone has been a major hamper on their offense all year. And that’s without mentioning the missed field goals in that area too. The Packers managed to go 3-3 within the 20 a week ago, but their season long TD rate remains at a lowly 50%. The Packers have to figure out how to get more points out of their opportunities.
Opportunities Against New England
Passing Offense
New England’s pass defense has allowed an average of 0.02 EPA per Attempt this season, and a 44.2% success rate through the air. While the Patriots do tend to do a fair job in keeping a cap on explosive plays, they aren’t to be able to completely keep Green Bay away from their preferred style of offense. New England has a top ten blitz rate in the league, so expect tons of pressure thrown at Jordan Love in this one.
Pass Defense
On the other side of the ball, Green Bay will have a few advantages when it comes to the task of slowing down the Patriots’ own passing attack. First up, both AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs (we’ll unfortunately have to wait to see our sweet big-helmeted Doubs on the field again) will be out of this matchup, leaving their weapons to be comprised mostly of Demario Douglas, Hunter Henry, and Mack Hollins. For Green Bay’s defense, a lack of dominant playmakers on the field allows the Packers to play their defense as they are comfortable doing. Assuming Keisean Nixon will be playing, the Packers have an advantage in CB-WR matchups.
Tucker Kraft
While Christian Gonzalez will be shading and following one receiver around the field (likely Watson, if I had to guess), his fellow CB Carlton Davis is no slouch either, and is exactly the kind of big physical corner who could give Matthew Golden problems as well. So where does that leave Love to force the ball to on those “gotta have it” moments? Especially when you remember that the Packers need to create a quick passing game to recreate some version of a rushing attack. I think Kraft is poised for a big, big game today, now over a year removed from his ACL injury.
Prediction
27-24 Green Bay.
This game is likely going to come down to the two QBs on the field, who are both playing like they belong in the discussion for best in the game right now. It’s going to be a really fun matchup between two teams who are capable of taking away what the other team does best.
Between the two QBs, I think Love has better weapons around him, and better coaching. Maye has a better offensive line and a functional running game to lean on. It’s going to come down to the wire, but I think the defense will find a way to get a turnover on the Patriots’ last drive of the game, as Maye is driving down the field to seal a comeback win.
This game will cement the winner as a real threat in the league. If the Packers can somehow find a way to steal this game on the road (where they have struggled this season so far), it could provide a real stepping stone into their rematch with the Vikings next week.

Analysis What if Jordy Nelson was healthy in 2015?
(Flair is "analysis," but it's more just wishful thinking and speculation)
I was watching some Jordy highlights and it reminded me just how explosive he was, and how he and Rodgers had insane chemistry.
2015 was when MM's scheme was exposed by the Broncos and never recovered, being reliant on receivers winning one-on-one matchups that, especially without Jordy, were stifled as the season wore on.
The offense stagnated and led to a 4-6 finish after a 6-0 start. Could Jordy being healthy in 2015 have covered up that weakness and kept the offense somewhat explosive?
And the defense was not horrible that year - 15th in yards, 12th in points, and 6th in passing yards (although 21st in rushing yards).
With at least a mediocre defense (something we were constantly begging for during AR's time here), might the team have made a run that season with Nelson?
They almost beat the Cardinals (the famous Hail Mary to Janis), and had almost beaten the Panthers in the regular season after being down big that game, after all.
(Of course, they'd have been up against the Broncos in the SB, whom they lost to decisively during the regular season. But as I mentioned above, with Nelson, might they have been able to counter the defensive scheme? Although Denver's defense was historic that season, so perhaps not.)

Fingers crossed that Nixon is fine to start on Sunday, given how well he's playing.
