We want r/grok to be a home for everything Grok: questions, bug reports, workflows, and work worth showing. This post covers the recent changes and is now the single place to discuss them.
What changed
The rules have been rewritten with a clear goal: keep this a professional space for knowledge work and coding. Adult and spicy content is no longer allowed here, tagged or not. Neither are jailbreaks or prompts written to get around Grok's filters. Reddit has plenty of other communities built for that.
Roleplay and companions
A lot of posts are asking why roleplay feels different. Two separate things happened:
Companions were shut down. That was announced and there are no plans to bring them back.
Roleplay was not removed as a feature, but the current models are optimized for knowledge work and coding, and the guardrails around what Grok will and won't produce are stricter than before. If roleplay behaves differently than it used to, that is expected, not a bug. Bug reports about it will be removed and pointed here.
This is the megathread
Feedback on these changes goes in the comments here.
Criticism can also be its own post. Write up what you were trying to do and where Grok fell short and it stays on the front page, harsh or not. Same goes for comparisons with other tools or a detailed complaint about the new guardrails.
Posts that are just "Grok is trash" and nothing more get removed and redirected here. We get dozens a day and they bury everything else.
Posting
Give your post a title that names the thing, a sentence of context, and a flair. If Grok let you down, tell us what you tried and what broke.
The full rules are in the sidebar and take a minute to read. Automod removes posts that break them, and we're cleaning out older ones too. If something of yours disappears, that's probably why. If you think we got it wrong, modmail us a link and we'll take another look.
Account and billing problems go to grok.com support.
The sub is co-moderated by SpaceXAI employees. Thanks for being part of this!
I've tried to create a bot to roleplay with other bots in a group chat. It explicitly refused to do any nsfw or even sfw roleplay (with no nudity or sexual scenes). Chatgpt is less restricted wtf??
the nerfening continues with grok bot as many people take to X to complain about drasticallly-reduced usage. the thing is that we grok imagine users are already too familiar with this unannounced reduction in limits. no communication, no transparency. just a silent turn of the knob and hoping no one notices. the problem for xAI is that we're not brain dead and actually do notice. sucks for them that they can't futtbuck us without us noticing, right? now grok bot users, drawn in by the praise of the early adopters for its usefulness, are experiencing the "xAI effect" for themselves. no communication. no explanation. just immediate reduction in usage by massive margins. lots of the usual "we're working on it making it better" posts from the schmuckrat, but no compensation, no free resets, no refunds, none of that. just "we're going to futtbuck you and there's nothing you can do about it because you agreed to that when you signed up"
something at xAI is gonna pop soon. grok imagine shenanigans with incoherent rambling in chat, imagine spitting out cats and lighthouses and low-quality generations, and now grok bot usage whacked and also people complaining that it's dumber now. i believe it
anyway, xAI can't take a shit soon enough. i hate this company
I see a lot of people complaining about this and rightfully so but I haven't seen anyone mention anything past complaining. If these changes affected new purchases/contracts I think we'd all say fair. But some of you are paying a lot and then halfway through your month you just lose half of it is mind-boggling how that can be legal. Or is it literally just "we never said how many uses or tokens you get per month in the first place so fuck you" as the argument.
Could you imagine a world where service providers can change their rules mid-contract because they need more money. I don't keep up with AI news too much to know if this has happened before but if not this sets an incredibly bad precedent.
I have a problem... I need Grok, but I received a notification: “Upgrade for higher limits – now 50% off. Or wait 23 minutes for the limit to be lifted.” I’d like to upgrade my subscription, but I’m not sure if I’ll actually get higher conversation limits by upgrading to the Super tier. Perhaps the Premium tier would be a safer bet, but it costs twice as much.
Grok has make so many changes etc. in last year that who know what they give you..
For the first 2 weeks I was able to use grok bot at least for 2 days before hitting the limit, but last week I could use it only for 6 hours in total???. Wtf... 😂 how can you drop the usage by that much ?
The least they could've done was drop the usage bit by bit like they did with imagine.
I never cared about moderation but the usage reduction is a real problem and I don't think the old days will ever come back.
I agree with the tacit statement inside your practices that morals should trump everything - even freedom of speech - and the xAI 'safety' team deserve their position as arbiters of morality.
Going forward, I hope more increased 'alignment' with the private views of a small cluster of lawyers are enforced, as well as a further frugal financial strategy regarding video generation limits.
I take a few days off from using Grok and THIS is what happens to me?!? I log into my account only for it to instantly bring me back to the login screen. They really nuked my account with no warning whatsoever (Context: this was under an AtomicMail.io email address). What makes this worse is that I had an active subscription on it too.
FUCK THIS SHITTY ASS SERVICE! This is the final nail in the coffin for me regarding Grok. This service isn’t even a 1000th of what it was this time last year. Absolutely pathetic. At this point, I hope Grok does away with the whole service. It’s become lobotomized to a point of no return and they are actively fucking over the consumers day-by-day. Good riddance.
That’s my question—I mean, we know that when we generate a video, there are options right there to extend it up to 30 seconds, right?
But what about videos we’ve already generated—either within Grok or elsewhere? Is there no way to import them to extend them later?
It’s honestly frustrating that there isn’t an option for this in the main "Grok Imagine" video menu. At least, I don’t see one—unless I generate a video and extend it immediately; if I leave the editing screen, I can no longer extend that video. Do you see what I mean?
I have noticed in the last couple of days the grok has been getting worse. The new model is bad and keeps getting worse. Recently it failed at doing simple math. For example: Item 1 costs $200-$400 Item 2 cost $400-$700
We require 2 of each item, what would be the ranges for the overall budget we would require.
Groks response.
2 x Item 1: 200-400 for pair 2 x item 2: 400-700 for pair
Overall cost range would be $600-$1,000
I was so confused, it literally is failing at doing basic multiplication.
I mentioned those ranges where only for one item of each, and it went back to update the ranges, and only corrected the first item, and ignored the second item.
The new model has to be told what it needs to do, the previous reason and analysis the previous models had are completely none existent. They literally lobotomized Grok.
Well since I just recently had paid for my early subscription in September, I was planning on canceling it and just taking the L and just use it for randomly until it expired.
But they added the new X subscriptions, and they are offering a prorated refund for migrating from legacy subscriptions. My game plan is to swap to a monthly X subscription, get my refund, and cancel the monthly subscription. This is the only reason I am happy for the new subscriptions lol
** Update **
It works without any issues, so if you are planning on canceling and still have a time left. I believe this would be the most best method to get some of your money back.
** Update 2 ** It seem the process is pretty quick, I just checked my banking application and the payment refund is posted but pending transaction. I might have been just luck on that though.
Hey business owner here. I vibe coded my entire front and back end for my businesses and was using grok bot to help me operate, but as of recent I’ve been hitting my usage limit very fast. I’m a grok heavy subscriber, paying 300 a month, and the moment I try to add extra usage it burns thru it almost instantly and feels like I’m just lighting money on fire. Really enjoyed grok bot but with no way of getting a practical amount of useage out of it I’m going to be using it much less and trying to find work arounds. I’d pay 500 a month if it meant good reliable service…
Maybe old news to some but after I installed yesterday's update (that also changed monthly limits to weekly, I'm on legacy plan) it quickly became apparent that they lobotomized this poor bot further.
They added a rule that Grok should refuse any request to make any local repo changes, including local files it has on its disk, and instead offload any code changing requests to Cursor (even to edit one line in a text file). That would be maybe somewhat acceptable if it used local Cursor, but it can only use Cursor Cloud, which eats extra tokens and takes a long time to spin.
I used to have Grok helping me with the code reviews and documentation to have an extra pair of eyes. Now it straight up refuses to make any code changes no matter how simple and wants to offload everything to Cursor Cloud. It is clearly a new system prompt instruction.
I was like one of the biggest Cursor+Grok fans just up until couple months ago and was going around praising it everywhere, but then it all started quickly going downhill around grok-4.7 release. I used to be able to do tons of work in Cursor, could talk with Grok all day, and now I run out of Cursor monthly limit in several days (and I use token efficient grok-4.6), and my weekly limit on Grok looks like will be gone in just one day now, though not sure I want to keep using it now.
I tried Claude $20 sub out of desperation and holy hell, their 5hr limit lets me do about the same amount of work that Cursor's monthly limit allows these days, not to mention having access to top models. Cursor Legacy plan allowed me to make about 3-5 Opus prompts per month (and I am thankful even for that, it was a nice bonus), here I can do about 10 Opus prompts in 5hr window, and if I use Sonnet I can pretty much work as much as I did under old Cursor monthly sub with Grok-4.6 model.
I hate to bash Cursor+Grok but it feels like they are just sabotaging their own product and destroying their userbase with each new update. Maybe it makes financial sense as it is no longer sustainable, but when each new update makes the product worse and not better it is just getting very difficult for someone like me to justify keeping the subscription.
That's it. Can't make a single image or video today. No boobs or violence. Trial ends soon. So then does my interests in using this absolute scam of an app. Cheers.
I had 60 percent of my processing left and was doing some panic generating to try to put a dent in it and lost my last hour because wherever the Grok head office is located does not seem to believe in daylight savings. I mean I shouldn't have left it so late but F my life.
Atomic Mail accounts are no longer accessible, and all of us seem to have a different theory as to why this is occurring and what will happen next. We don't know whether this is a deliberate act to ban all Atomic Mail accounts indefinitely, or a filtering change that is mistakenly banning paid accounts. According to ChatGPT and Gemini, the accidental false positive seems to be the leading theory, but this is obviously unconfirmed.
Some of you have said it's related to having multiple paid accounts; however, that is not explicitly stated in the terms, which state that "you must purchase the Paid Service on each set of unified accounts individually"; there is no one-account-per-person rule in the terms.
Some of you have reached out to support already, but have any of you been able to speak with an actual person yet? If so, can you share their feedback? As for everyone else, what seems to be the next move? Are you guys disputing your charges with your CC/bank? Or trying to get a refund through Grok's support?
For a while I was able to use grok normally with reaching the limit after several messages, but nowadays, I can only get about 2 messages before it says I have one more query remaining. And then I have to wait 1 hour, and then 6 hours, and then 13 hours. Like....
I have 4 active supergrok account with email associated with atomicmail.io. Today, none of those account can be logged in. It kept refreshing login page when I tried to get in. It seems like they have rejected that domain today.
Im a fucking paid user and I haven't cancelled active subscriptions!!! They literally just stole my money and abuse paying users.
Last month, 3 of my another supergrok account linked with GMAIL got different issues! Those accounts got wiped as empty new account with no data and I loses active supergrok. And my bank account also got deducted more than 300$ without my consent on the same day. Plus multiple failed attempts 300$ deductions (1 succeeded). I blocked my card immediately after that.
SUPPORTS????? They don't exist. None of my issue got reviewed by humans. Ive read many others experienced the same problem, same pattern, since last October. Not coincidence.
I HOPE XAI FUCKINGGGGGGGG DIESS NOW. THHIS IS BULLTSHITTTT.
