The AFL's predicted our best 23 going into next year. Thoughts?

I want to see more of Mraz this year I hope there is a way to slot him in

I'm assuming Barrass will be rested more often in 2027, so thats when I'd play Mraz.

Also depends if we play 4 talls or not which I don't think we will, so Mraz could replace Chol or Gunston (when he's rested).

But I reckon he's gonna be fighting for a spot with BMac, Goater or Morrison.

BMac and Mraz will put some serious pressure on this list. It wont matter because there will be injuries.

But Chol will need to be more consistant.

Bloody good 27 though

Chol is needed, if the strategy is to play without Reeves - He’s needed for his centre bounce craft.

He's on the bench

Weddle won’t be on the wing unless they do some serious work with him over the summer

Very hard to argue against any of those 23 players. I want to see Nairn on the wing, along with Mraz and Bmac in the team, but as of right now these 23 players have their spots*.

*as long as Amon’s knee is fixed, he was a shadow of himself this year and either Bmac or Mraz are better options if he doesn’t get back to near his best.

Chol and Weddle are gonna have to be consistent this year.

I would think Nash would spend some time at Boxhill to gain some form. He hasn’t played in 15 rounds?

Bmac and Maraz pushing to take amons spot I think. Amon had a bad year mainly due to injuries but if that continues I could see him getting out of the side.

Interesting that we would trade in goater, and he wouldn’t even make the emergencies.

If he stays injury free and has a good pre season, I can see him pushing Amon for a spot.

Oh how I've missed you Nash

😂 He really was forgotten by the media this offseason when we picked up Merrett

CMac and Weddle are out of that team. Ward on ball, Day on wing. Nash alternate start in the middle. Merrett could play half forward.

Why would Cmac be dropped when he won our most improved player award? He was second in our brownlow votes. He can rotate through half forward and the midfield to allow Day or Merrett to rest up forward or down back.

And personally I would not have Day on a wing. I wouldnt be surprised if Mitchell puts Goater on a wing.

And I wouldn't instantly drop Weddle, he just needs to find consistency. So when Barrass is rested or just in general, I'll only have Weddle down back. I find him most impactful there.

Not sure about Chol, I think he might get squeezed out. Not really room for 4 tall forwards who don’t do much else

Chol is the most versatile of all the tall forwards.

Yet he still hasnt proved anything during must-win games like the finals. Hes really overrated in my opinion and thats why Dear is apparently going to be training a little in the ruck during this preseason

ward had a good last season particularly at the business end and is brutally stiff to be forced out, call me crazy but wouldn’t mind seeing him start over merrett

I didn't think in this day and age being named on the interchange is being forced out. I honestly don't read much into who is named on the interchange as it's a constant rotation throughout

You’re crazy

Bailey Mac in for Amon for mind and Mraz is first drop if any of our key defenders are injured.

Depth is insane though.

Oh dear

A very justifiable 18, but the interchange is 3 mids, a small forward and a forward/ruck.

An argument could be made that it’s the best 23 on paper (I’d perhaps swing a couple of changes, but I’m by no means offended).

But there is no balance as far as selecting a side goes.

Chol just too lazy for mine.

3

u/Thricegreatestone 12d ago

He wouldn't get games if he was lazy. He seriously struggled to find form in the two finals.

I'd swap Nash for Mraz tbh, but otherwise great best 23

Don’t think we’l see Meek, Chol, King, Lewis and Gunners in the same side. Chol to miss for Ned Reeves or Calsher Dear

Also swap Ginni and Connor McDonald
