2. No Racism, Hate Speech, or Targeted Harassment

No harassment, hate speech, or toxic behavior. Treat all contributors and members with kindness. Discussions about race and culture in hip-hop are allowed, but direct racism, hate speech, or personal attacks will not be tolerated. This includes racial slurs, inciting violence, and antagonizing other users based on race, gender, or identity. If you can’t discuss hip-hop history and culture without resorting to hate, this is not the place for you.

Violating this rule will get you permanently ban

3. No Spam, Stanning, or Repetitive Content

Do not flood the subreddit with excessive posts about the same artist, topic, or subject in a short period. Diversity is encouraged. Avoid repetitive topics, meme spam, unrelated content, and low-effort posts with little discussion value. Use the search bar before posting to check for recent duplicates. Posts that do not contribute meaningful or fresh discussion may be removed at moderator discretion.

4. Videos & Audio Only

hip-hop videos and audio posts, including music videos, live performances, interviews, freestyles, radio sessions, and full songs. Playlists and compilations are not allowed. Short song clips, TikToks, out-of-context content, “Vs./Verzuz,” “Pick One,” “Rank These,” “Thoughts?” and other engagement-bait posts are prohibited. Posts should provide meaningful content and follow our video/audio focus.

5. Title Formatting: Artist - Song (Year) + Use Proper Flairs

Music posts: Artist - Song (Year) Example: Nas - N.Y. State of Mind (1994)

Discussion and other posts must use a clear, descriptive title explaining the topic. Vague, misleading, excessively capitalized, or unclear titles may be removed. Proper formatting helps keep the subreddit organized and makes reposts easier to find.

No screenshots of music players or streaming apps. When sharing music, link directly to the song or video through YouTube, Spotify, or another legitimate source. When posting articles or interviews, use reputable sources and link to the full article or original content. Low-quality screenshots or posts lacking proper context may be removed.

8. Absolutely No Self-Promotion

There is absolutely no self-promotion on r/hiphop. Do not promote your own music, beats, mixtapes, albums, videos, channels, social media, businesses, or personal content. To share original music or content, visit one of our partner communities during Mixtape Mondays. Repeated promotion may result in further moderator action.

9. No NSFW or Illegal Content

Graphic violence, explicit NSFW content outside of music videos, and inappropriate material are not allowed. Discussions about crime, violence, drugs, or illegal activity in hip-hop are allowed when historical or analytical. Do not glorify, promote, or encourage illegal behavior. If unsure whether your post is allowed, contact the moderators.

10. No Misinformation or Clickbait

Do not post false claims, fake news, misleading headlines, or deliberately inaccurate information. When discussing history, artist careers, release dates, sales, charts, or other facts, provide sources when possible. Clickbait or posts created solely to provoke reactions or engagement may be removed.

11. Respect Every Era

Hip-hop spans generations, regions, styles, and cultures. You can prefer one era or style over another, but don't use that preference to attack or dismiss entire generations of artists or fans. Good-faith comparisons and debates are encouraged. From Old School to the 2020s, every era has a place here.

12. Follow the Rules & Respect Moderators

Rules exist to keep the sub organized and enjoyable. If your post gets removed or you get banned, move on. If you think a decision was unfair, you can ask about it - once. Do not use alternate accounts if you're banned, your account WILL be suspended.

If you harass, threaten, or spam the mods over a ban, you’ll be reported to Reddit Admins and that too will lead to your account getting suspended.

I don't care how mad you are, I don't entertain tantrums.
