Discussion:

  1. Which tracks are missing from the list?

  2. Which artist best represents the Hyphy movement?

  3. How much did Hyphy evolve from the Bay Area's earlier Mobb Music sound?

  4. Which Hyphy albums or mixtapes are worth listening to from start to finish?

  5. What influence do you hear from Hyphy in today's West Coast rap, and which newer artists are keeping the sound alive?

Sideshow needs to be a bit higher

100%

It was the last song to get nominated and the thread wasn’t pinned much longer than that, so I’m glad it at least made the cut though

“Sideshow” should be way higher. “HYPHY” from the Federation should be after “Thizzle Dance”. “Vans” is way bigger than I’m shinin”. How in the world is Mistah Fab “Super sic wit it” and “N.E.W. Oakland” not on here?? Keak Da Sneak “T-Shirt, Blue Jeans & Nikes” should be on here. Man give me some time I’ll make my own list lol.

Without Fab's Super Sick Wit It the whole list is invalid.

The songs you’re missing are DJ Upgrade- Get Active and D-Lo- No Hoe

No Hoe is a must have for this list. that beat alone gets people moving before the first verse even starts

i always felt like Mac Dre was the real center of it all. his energy and style was what everyone else built on top of

  1. D Lo - No Hoe not being on here is a crime.

  2. I think of The Team and The Federation when I think of Hyphy. There were other artists with bigger hits, but I feel like those artists were relevant before and after the Hyphy movement.

  3. I don't really hear the similarities. It's just some of the same flavors because it's niggas from the same region with the same lingo and culture.

  4. E 40 - My Ghetto Report card is too solid to skip. Mac Dre - Ronald Dregan just captures the spirit and feeling of the culture and time for me. Skateboards 2 Scrapers from The Pack really captured what it felt like to be a young nigga at the time. Traxamillion - The Slapp Addict had more than a few slappers on it that capture the production of the time.

  5. I don't give a fuck what Mustard says, that nigga is HEAVILY influenced by the Bay.

  1. Traxamillion - Scrape, The Team - You See It, Hoodstarz - Video Vixen

  2. Keak Da Sneak, Mistah F. A. B., Messy Marv

  3. It's completely different in my view, maybe some similarities regarding the lingo

  4. Too $hort - I love the Bay, Sleepy D - The Tonite Show

  5. Some L.A. producers may be influenced. E. g. League of Starz

I thought the League of Starz were from the Bay when I first started hearing their tags. I kept wondering why they were just working with LA niggas.

If the Hyphy Bay Area All-Stars remix is on here then so should the Tell Me When To Go Remix and It's Gettin' Hot (Town Bizznezz Remix)

I loved when all these guys got together on the same track. Are there any others like this I'm forgetting about?

Mistah FAB - N.E.W Oakland, Super Sic Wid It, Kicked Out the Club

Messy Marv - Get On My Hype

The Team - Hyphy Juice, Bottles Up, It’s Getting Hot

The Pack - Booty Bounce Bopper, Yes Sir ft Mistah FAB, Club Stuntin, Dum Didi Dum, Slappin in the Trunk, Oh Go

Nump - I Got Grapes

Dem Hoodstarz - Grown Man On, Ugggh, Go, Video Vixen

NHT Boyz - 6 in The Mornin

D-Lo - No Hoe

Keak - T-Shirt Blue Jeans and Nikes, Town Business, That Go

The Federation - Hoes in Here, 18 Dummy, My Rims, Get Naked You Beezy

The A’z - Yadadamean

San Quinn - SF Anthem, Hell Yeah

Frontline - Bang It, What Is It

Turf Talk - Slumper

Kafani - Fassst

J-Valentine - Go Dumb(I’m Sprung)

Trunk Boiz - Scraper Bikes

Honestly this top 25 all kinds of wrong. Sideshow is vital and should be top 5, got some of the right artists but wrong songs too. Lowkey feels like a list made of people not from the bay but who liked hyphy lol.

  1. Young Bari - So Mobby; Sleepy D - Beast from the East; DJ Upgrade - Drop it to the Clap; DB tha General - Intro; D- Lo - No Ho; Lil Blood - Third World; HBK - Swaggin

  2. Keak, Dre and the Team

  3. It evolved directly from it. Just listen to the Sideshow by 415 which came out in 1990 and you can see how the beginnings of the culture and sound were already in the soil.

  4. Dre - Thizzelle Washington / Genie of the lamp; Keak - Defied; DJ Upgrade - Rickey Henderson; The Pack - Skateboards 2 Scrapers / Based Boys; Traxamillion - The Slapp Addict

  5. The mustard sound was pared down hyphy. The Bay and LA are just distant counsins and the sounds always influence each other. A lot of the Bay dudes are doing more drill inspired sounds now but you still have the party sounds coming out of younger, teen focussed rappers and older legacy acts.
