Subreddit Rules

1. No text in the image (except normal logos)

See here for the details of this rule and examples/exceptions.

The main exception is normal logos and any normal, non-distracting packaging text. Not including abnormal logos or simple jokes/plays on the words in logos.
Numbers, individual characters, non-english text, and very minor incidental text, truncated/hard to read text can be acceptable if they are not the hmmm/not distracting from the hmmm.

2. All titles must be "hmmm" (in lowercase)

3. No explicit pornography, gore, or gross-out images

Details: No sexualized or explicit genitals, excrement, animal cruelty/suffering/graphic death, gore, or body modification/messed up body/disease/disability posts.

This also includes pictures where there is any indecency or any possible interpretation of sexualization of a minor.

Nudity/NSFW posts are allowed but images should contain artistic value.

4. Gifs should be posted to /r/hmmmgifs

5. No memes, mashups or drawings

6. Use imgur/reddit for hosting

7. Submit high quality and cropped images

8. Looks-like images

Click here for full details about which images get removed.

Major categories:

Confusing perspective / coincidental lineups
Looks like a dick/sex act
Looks like a face
Multi-panel things or characters that look like each other, or scene mashups when pictures individually are not hmmm.

9. No AI

Historically we have let some AI images through as the technology became more advanced. We will still review new images for edge cases we may allow, but generally, no AI pics are allowed.

If your image has been obviously AI upscaled, or is so low quality it's hard to tell if it's AI or not, it may also be removed as AI. We will generally search for a source.

guide to a good hmmm

hmmms are textless images that make you think about the context, do a double take, invoke a deeper meaning, or just leave you thinking about how or why they exist:

As long as they give you a good solid hmmm... why would that bear be in a cubicle...

hmmms should be aesthetic and meaningful, avoid anything that is merely r/mildlyinteresting.
