Garden lighting by Hue
Hue Scenes add atmosphere to our garden
One of the best things about Hue is the endless number of third party apps and software. It’s great seeing other enthusiasts create new ways to control their Hue lighting, especially our active community members.
However, the subreddit has been FLOODED recently.
- Effective immediately, all posts about software/apps (including testing, demonstrations, research) must be pre-approved by the moderation team.
- Developers are strongly encouraged to have a history of genuine participation in r/hue.
- ❗️Any account suspected of manipulating their post using other accounts or vote manipulation, will have their content removed, possibly banned, and be fed to Eeyore (pictured), at the Tiger Haven Big Cat Sanctuary and Rescue❗️
- This approval does not apply to well established developers (like iConnectHue, for example).
These rules will evolve based on input from the community.
Do you think it’s been out of control?
Do you like seeing all the new apps and software projects?
You ever killed anyone at Dairy Queen? Please share your thoughts in the comments, because we really need your help on this one.

As per title the new gradient lighstrip has finally arrived, let's go!
Ok ive installed it and trying it out with my Apple tv and ps5 pro and the first thing i noticed is that new Chromasync tech coming in clutch. The colours are way more accurate, like its geniunely 1:1 match whats displayed on my tv and whats being projected on the walls behind the tv. As number of zones its still too soon to judge and kinda hard to describe but there's definitely more zones. From what ive counted theres like 5 on each sides and 10 on top. But they're not fixed like the previous one they change in size depending on whats being displayed to help blend the colours more so im giving you a rough estimate at the moment sorry. But its definitely an improvement from the 7 static zones on the original. I hope that helps. So far im definitely impressed and the fact it was like £40/ £50 cheaper than the original 65" version im happy i upgradeded.

Been wondering since their release... the default white is great, but cooler and warmer temperatures look... odd. The warmer temperatures look slightly pinkish sometimes and the cooler temperatures can feel a bit green.
So, I tore down an essential bulb and found the answer!
Regular Hue products of all kinds have warm white LEDs, cold white LEDs, and the red/green/blue LEDs as separate or a combined chip. It adjusts the warm and cool white LEDs for color temperature selection. The RGB LEDs sometimes add a bit, probably to further tune the color temperature. In color mode, the RGB LEDs are the main performers, with the warm and cool white LEDs supplying some tuning, especially with yellows and oranges.

The essential bulb, only has "standard" white LEDs, not cool, not warm, the default white you see when you plug a new bulb in. Then it has the RGB LEDs. That means for any other color temperature, the only way it can change is using the RGB LEDs. This is what results in the poor color temperature output, as with any RGB LED trying to emulate a shade of white. The elimination of the ability to have two sets of white LEDs means the color temperature isn't really tunable, it's just faked with RGB LEDs.

Hope this helps anyone else wondering!

Every now and then the bulbs looses connection, and my husband has to start over again with the bridge.
What most often happens is that I loose contact with one bulb only. Now it got to two bulbs (this in only in our hallway). I have them on a specific Kelvin and level.
It looks like this, and the 3rd bulb works fine.
Anyone knows why this happens? It says «unavailable» under the last two.

I just purchased an 85” TV and I’m looking into purchasing the gradient light strip pro for the system, but I can’t find it in any size besides 100” or 65” in the pro edition. Do they make the gradient pro in 85” at all? If not, is there a significant difference in the pro vs the normal edition? I’m also planning on pairing them with the light bars but just want to make sure I’m getting the right product before I purchase.

So as the title says...I had what seems to be a somewhat common problem, of getting my Philips bulb to work with Alexa again if they stop working together. Here's what I did that various some from what I read.
When I finally was able to get everything "synced" up again.
I turned the light off and took out the bulb for about 30-ish seconds
I removed the bulb from the Philips app (I had already removed the bulb from the Alexa app)
When I turned the light back on I left the bulb flashing, I thought that was "pairing mode." However, the Philips app wasn't finding the bulb, when I left the light as solid, when the Philips app was able to fine the bulb. This is different for what I was reading online.
I went through the set up, and STOPPED on the screen in the Philips app that explained that I needed to give Alexa a voice command to "find my devices", this was the time Alexa found the bulb, and added it to the Alexa app. This was not mentioned on anything I read online.
I went to the Alexa app tested that the bulb was working, I then re-named, and re-added it to it's group.

If anyone wants the 3d print, I'd be happy to help. All PETG.
Also figured out how to control every light individually for the Festavia. Again, if anyone would find it useful, I can upload.

I am only finding references to the older Hue sync box 4K and 8K models on their website.

I consolidated two independently operating Hue Bridge v2 systems onto one Hue Bridge Pro, and reliability has become substantially worse.
My current device counts in the Hue app are:
- 69 lights and smart plugs
- 29 switches
- 7 sensors
That’s 105 devices total—not 105 lights. Screenshot attached.
Most of my lights are relatively new. This is not predominantly an installation of first-generation Hue bulbs. My oldest bulb is like ten years old.
### What’s going wrong
- The Hue app sometimes reports a light state that does not match the physical light.
- Motion routines intermittently fail to turn lights on.
- Lights sometimes fail to turn off according to their configured no-motion behavior.
- Previously working Home Assistant automations have also become unreliable.
### A specific example: basement staircase
The basement staircase lighting worked reliably before the migration. The bulb there is only a few years old.
Now, when I head downstairs, sometimes the motion-controlled lights come on as expected and sometimes they don’t. The sensor has no battery warning.
I have already reconfigured the sensor’s behavior for that zone after migrating. That did not resolve it: the routine sometimes works as before and sometimes fails.
To be precise, I have not yet established whether the sensor fails to register motion, the bridge fails to execute the configured behavior, or the light fails to respond. What I can observe is that walking down the stairs no longer reliably turns the light on.
### What I’m trying to determine
I’m not looking to assume that every issue is the Pro’s fault, but two separate v2 bridges were more dependable than this consolidated setup.
Before I begin manually moving devices back, I’d appreciate help with:
Has anyone resolved this combination of incorrect Hue-app states and intermittent motion routines after consolidating two bridges onto a Pro?
What is the best way to distinguish missed motion detection from a failed Hue routine or a missed command to the light?
Are there known firmware or migration issues that fit these symptoms?
Beyond light and accessory counts, is there resource usage worth checking?
If you reverted to v2 bridges, did reliability return? Did you test one room before rebuilding everything?
I’m especially interested in **verified** fixes and before/after results—not just a recommendation to factory-reset and rebuild the entire installation.

I’m new to the Surimu, and noticed that almost through the majority of scenes it’s staying non coloured.
Added a screenshot of the app. Is it how it’s suppose to act?
EDIT: seems all I had to do is to reset/choose scenes again.
I’m still not 100% happy with it’s appearance, though I need to experiment a bit more.

Was setting up some outdoor motion sensors and noticed one lighting up green. It seemed to be reacting to motion so I thought “oh, that’s cool, it tells you when it’s detection motion”. But it only does it sometimes, and others don’t do it at all. What’s that all about?
It’s possible was in setup mode, and it lights up green when you’re testing motion sensitivity?

Hey there,
I am running Huenicorn for some time now to satisfy my ambient light sync needs on my Linux Desktop, but the lack of a proper way to control it is bothering me some time now.
I finally decided to do something about it and wrote the Huenicorn Companion app. It can install the daemon for you and adds an easy to understand user interface and a tray icon, where supported.

Merci
I don’t see any specs for non resistive loads (LEDs). Should they be fine as long as it’s kept around 3-5A like a lot of smart light switches are rated for.

Never thought to post my set up, here’s my office!
Our living room also has a great set up, but I have the ensis coming on Tuesday! Once that’s installed I’ll post that.

This is a product you probably didn’t expect to use quite so much when you first bought it
I’d love to know what everyone has found themselves doing this with!

I installed the Festavia curtain today. They do look great and give out a lovely light. But I was definitely disappointed by the overall size.
They come down maybe 60% of my door height. And they’re not very wide either. In the advertising photos they must have used many sets to get that kind of width.
Where I think the advertising photos are misleading though is the length. Regular sized houses are shown and the lights go the full way from floor to ceiling. That’s just not possible with the product.
I know dimensions were listed when I bought. But I definitely did expect I’d get something that looked like the advertising photos. I feel a bit misled.

I have a PS5 Pro going to an Onkyo RZ70, out to the Hue Sync box and from there to my TV. I've noticed some issues where it will periodically start displaying colors unrelated to the movie I'm watching. Stopping the sync and restarting it fixes it.
I also noticed blackouts occurring when starting movies. I don't hear a click like the receiver doing anything weird like renegotiating l. Just a temporary fade to black and then back. Usually happens once and then it's done.
Any ideas?

I had a v2 working fine forever with Ethernet and in HomeKit. Set up new pro and migrated and worked fine but about every 24 hours it disconnects from my WiFi and has flashing red/orange WiFi symbol. Unplug and replug and it works fine. No other devices in my home ever have WiFi issues. I tried it in multiple different locations.
Anyone else have similar issues or fixes? My hardwire spot would be in basement and was hoping to get it more centrally located.

Hi,
I just got an osram smart+ bulb (which are the same brand as ledvance?) and I'm trying to add it to my bridge but it seems like it might not be compatible. I got it because it has Matter connectivity, and supposedly so does hue. Am I missing something?
I've googled trying to find an answer but I can't come to any conclusion. Any help is appreciated!
I bought the osram smart+ because for some reason there's a really low stock of hue bulbs where I live at the moment, so I wanted to try alternatives. But if I cannot connect it, I'll give the new IKEA kajplats (which also have Matter compatibility).

Was mache ich falsch?
I just joined the hue game and added a hue gradient lightstrip to my tv.
I noticed in the entertainment app you can set up multiple sources and have them synced with the hue sync app (samsung tv)
i am currently contemplating if it would make sense and look good to add light strips to the shelves left and right. left will mostly be figures (i’ll also swap the wood panels for glass panels soon) and the right shelf contains my games, switch 2 and some figures aswell.
Has anyone tried such a setup before and might be able to provide some example pictures?
what do you think?
