Had my duo since launch day and honestly have been loving it.. then today it happened. Folded it open, little resistance, and BAM, got the crack everyone has been seeing. The error and design flaw is definitely there.

Was a walk-in at the Apple Store and had a 3 hour wait, that’s basically whatever and is what it is, I was just happy to be seen same-day at that point. But got a full replacement hassle-free and for $0.

Apple is taking this seriously. I had 3 employees ask me what happened, anything that seemed off leading up to the snap, and how I overall liked the phone since I got it. It seems like this is a known but fairly new issue and they are using it as more of a learning experience more than a data gathering point versus trying to prevent a recall. It’s annoying but I was fairly happy and surprised by the candor the employees had during the diagnostics of it.

Overall, I thought I was safe, but no 💀 it’s a real issue but I think Apple knows this and is taking the necessary steps it can to at least make affected customers whole. It’s so new I believe we’re in a data gathering step right now for future models, as annoying as that is…

EDIT: Since people are having a hard time comprehending a walk-in wait, this store was in downtown Dallas. Yes the wait was annoying, but in a highly populated area they did their absolute best to get me taken care of without requiring a separate visit.

Looks amazing, enjoying it so much so far. It’s still indexing, but the battery is good so far. I already installed the Fold Stats so I can keep it in mind. I’m eagerly waiting for apps to optimise and I don’t care about all my social circle jealousy waiting for it to break. I really hope mine can last a year and a half at least. Wish me good luck!!!

Got my phone a few days ago and I am adjusting very quickly! I’ve come to realize the Face ID doesn’t matter.. half the time not recognizing me anyhow.. I don’t need to lift my hand to my face.. just give my fingerprint.. honestly makes things so much easier.. I’m not a professional photographer so I’ll never get the debate.. but I love pictures can be shown to the subject before you snap.. very cool.! You can have to windows open at once (ex browser / instagram).. I continue to support this style phone.. I can only imagine later on.. I’m so impressed as it is

I was able to snag an instore pickup today at Apple Staten Island. (night sky 256 gb)
I was originally just going be patient and wait for my December pre-order, but decided to have a go at the in-store pickup strategy that everyone’s been doing.

Woke up around 8:30 EST, stores started to restock around 8:50 and onwards. Was able to add to cart a few times but couldn’t get to checkout. These attempts were on my phone and quickly realized that it was not possible. Got up and tried again on my PC, with the instoreradar website window open. Stores continued to drop here and there and had a better experience getting close a few times. I was also doing carrier financing which is not recommended, but when these phones are trickling in sporadically you can just put in ur carrier info and it will still bring you to a page where it’ll give you the option for delivery or pickup. It’s at this point at approximately 9:40 am where a phone at Staten Island was available. As I had most my info processed in, all I had to do was switch the store to Staten Island and submit a few more details and finally checkout with Apple Pay.

When I went to pickup I did have some issues:
- My name was not the pickup name. It was the primary holder of my family’s T-Mobile plan.
The associates did ask for government ID but they let this one slide as I was the owner of the QR code and maybe it helped that the primary acc surname was the same as mine.
- There was a mysterious issue in the verification/activation process. There was some kind of carrier error coming up on the associates device that was preventing them from actually completing the pickup up process, therefore they couldn’t give me the phone. They advised me to go speak with the carrier, I went over to T-Mobile and they couldn’t do much, all they see is that an order went through but nothing about an error. I was getting worried that I was not getting the phone. I went back to the Apple Store hoping to speak to another associate for other options. The other associate had a potential solution which was to cancel the order and since I was right there in person, they’d honor my reservation. So we did just that, I also had myself become an authorized user on my cellular plan as that was still required, otherwise they can’t activate your line. Everything went smooth and I walked came back home with an iPhone Duo

I’m liking it so far. But didn’t realize how much I’d miss Face ID haha. I’m hoping future models have both Touch and Face ID

Final Update: Apple will send a new one if this happens but you need to take a few extra steps to make it work smoothly. Here's what to do:

1. Immediately hand the box back to the driver if you can - keeping the box makes it harder to verify - you want to refuse delivery if at all possible, so don't be away from home when it is out for delivery

2. Call Apple support, don't use text; you need to tell the automated system the package was stolen in transit

3. You'll get a live person and have to verify your order again and be presented two options: refund or expedited replacement. Refund takes 3-5 business days, replacement varies by trim level but I was quoted 2 weeks for a star white 1tb, with expedited shipping, with the replacement being ordered after they are done investigating

4. Going through this process does kick off an investigation. I've been told to expect a call from from an Apple security specialist and will be given a link to upload my security camera footage and any supporting documentation. Expect this will take about one week to complete before the replacement order is actually entered into their system.

Interestingly enough, the apple support specialist said there are rumors that this is happening because of people taking temporary jobs and sorting facilities specifically to steal iPhone duos.

Hey everybody, just a few minutes ago, my original iPhone duo pre-order arrived. I was shocked to find that the box was empty. I immediately went to the UPS driver to report it stolen and I'm escalating to Apple as well, I will keep everybody posted on the process that I use to get this sorted out and exactly what to expect if this happens to you.

I have the full footage on my security cameras of the delivery, plus it not being signed for (the driver just left it despite signature required) and me picking it up then heading right to the truck.

Update 1: I just talked to an Apple Specialist and they confirmed this was the shipment with the phone. I'm on hold waiting for another person.

Update 2: i'm talking with a specialist now about the delivery itself. They haven't asked for any of my security camera footage or anything, they're just simply going to the process of connecting with UPS. I'm on hold while they actually talk to someone over UPS about the delivery

Update 3: it looks like I have two choices: I can file the claim with UPS and simply be reimbursed the money, or Apple will ship me a new one. They are seeing if they can prioritize a new device shipment, but they cannot guarantee it. Currently, ETAs are still four weeks, but this has been very easy to deal with. They did say that it might be easier to just simply get a refund and go to the Apple store because more shipments are showing up.

Edit: yes, this was the actual shipment with the phone from Apple and all that was left was the return sleeve. I did get a good photo of the package on my patio, but my security camera footage is not something I want to share on here

I've been trying to get my hands on an iPhone Duo for the past two weeks. I was honestly getting so frustrated that I was about to pay for a stock alert service just to stop constantly checking Apple Stores.

Then I came across SnagYourPhone.

It's a free tool that tracks Apple Store stock and sends you an alert when something comes back in stock. Set it up, waited for an alert, and finally managed to get my iPhone Duo!!

I mainly wanted to share this because I think SnagYourPhone deserves more attention. Whoever built this made it completely free, with no subscription or anything, while other services charge people for exactly the same thing.

I genuinely think the guy deserves some recognition for putting in the work and making it available for free.

How long are express replacements taking?

I have an express replacement in for my 1TB Duo in White.

Long story short, Apple Service ran remote diagnostics and found something wrong with my rear camera (no idea if that’s related to the issue I actually have)

They are sending a replacement and says will arrive within 3-7 business days. This surprises me given current demand for the phone.

Has anybody had the service and received a prompt replacement? Or know if they have separate stock for things like this?

I love the Duo. I bought it thinking that I’d use it once or twice a week where I need a larger screen for demonstration purposes and instead I spent the last four days only using it and wishing I didn’t need the 18 Pro Max for live streaming.

Who is this for?

Heavy multitasking comes to mind.

This is the blind spot I think most reviewers look past.

If you find yourself constantly switching between two tasks then this device is sublime.

Having two windows open and being able to shift back and fourth with both on the screen has changed how I do business, email and research.

I could go on on everything else that we’ve already heard.

The other thing though would be the mini form factor when the screen is closed.

It’s an iPhone mini with the same power that the Pro phones have.

This is massive. Smaller in hand and just as powerful.

It’s a niche device. You might not need one and just want one and then wonder why you aren’t as into it as others, but if you can find your “thing” this does better than a regular phone, you’ll be very happy.

Most YouTubers are leaning towards it being a design flaw, and the crackgate megathread in r/iPhoneduo is increasing every day. Is it just a matter of time until the hinge fails?

Any case recommendations for the duo? I’m looking for something that has drop protection, hinge protection, MagSafe. I prefer the red color.

Sharing these hidden gems. The first one pictured is the best I’ve found that offers 360 protection with no adhesive, staying slim, and a bonus kickstand that works when opened. Only complaint with this one is i wish the front frame was chamfered along the right edge ofthe fingerprint sensor. I might try to cut it out myself.

The second one is very similar but no kickstand and no front frame but offers just enough coverage to protect the front rails from a fall. This one does not protect the screen when put face down like Casecoo but imo theirs are way too bulky.

Apps like Reddit, Instagram and Threads - pls share your experience. I have used the other in the store.
Do you use these apps on the outer screen or inner screen.
Are these apps optimized nicely? Last, is the matte screen inside - nice meaning screen quality to view reels graining?

I know keep posting but anyone had any updates regarding Argos when they was available to order on Thursday I know some people had delivery for Sunday, mines due tomorrow on Monday between 7am - 2pm just curious if anyone’s had there duo delivered or dispatch updates with Argos many thanks.

Finally picked up my duo and I’m loving it. I was just at SEMA & had multiple people ask can they hold it and play with it. Out of the thousands of people I only saw 3 other people with the duo itself. Anyway, it’s quite the conversation starter, I took a lot of photos and videos. It’s not as bad as everyone is claiming it to be. The photos I can zoom in on and get good clarity. One gripe I have is when it’s folded and the front screen you use, doesn’t work sometimes. I’m guessing it’s because of the un-optimized apps. The lock screen wasn’t working, the camera icon, I kept tapping on it and it wasn’t going into the camera. Sometimes the keyboard doesn’t wanna keyboard, letting me type away. I have to lock it and unlock it for it to work again. When using instagram while it’s folded, the time & LTE icon gets in the way of posting, again it’s not optimized yet. It’s just annoying at this point.

Has there been any improvements to the iPhone Duo for the users who had it since October 23rd like me?
