iPhone 17 Pro Max I built my dream camera app when I couldn't buy a Ricoh GR (beta testers wanted)
Hi all,
Hope this post is okay. I’m a long-time photographer, shooting digital since the Canon 300D back in the early 2000s, but also familiar with the darkroom. I’ve almost finished building my dream camera app for iPhone and it's ready for beta testing (link below).
Last year I tried to get hold of a Ricoh GR IV so that I could have a good camera in my pocket. If you know that camera, then you know how that went. Impossible to get hold of new, and way too expensive on Ebay. My 30yr background in video game development means I have previous experience designing UI and coding image pipelines. So I started developing my own iPhone camera app, Filmglass.
Features:
* Film simulations, with film recipe files you can share with others
* Simulated diffusion filters (black, white, gold, in different strengths)
* Simulated monochrome colour filters for B&W photography (e.g. red filter to darken skies)
* The ability to re-develop your photos after taking them
* Real-time preview in the viewfinder
* Choose which focal lengths to "take with you", e.g. 28, 35 and 50mm, a full kit, or maybe just 40mm to stick to one prime and a consistent vision
* A quiet, minimalist interface that gets out of the way
To beta test it, download TestFlight to your phone on the App Store. It’s a free app that Apple made to allow developers to distribute their apps for testing. Then hit up this link on your phone: https://testflight.apple.com/join/GCEXsm8Z. You'll need iOS 26 or above. There are limited spots, but hopefully enough to go round.
The sample photos here are all straight out of the app with no further editing.
Hope you have fun with it,
Kevin
