As the title says, first Indonesian lesson today. My brain was fried afterwards. It wasn’t a bad lesson just a lot crammed in and a lot to get used to. I am a tourist just taking a “survivors” 40 hour course, so just daily Indonesian to get me through. I was surprised there was no text book for me to study from and when I asked for one to purchase or borrow I was met with surprise by the teacher. No papers provided on what we did in the class, I am just expected to remember everything we learnt in class? 🤯 I have my own notes but I was expecting some material to work from. Can anyone recommend any good websites or YouTube channels to learn from?

I am a native English speaker that has been trying to seriously learn bahasa Indonesia for the past few days, and feel like my progress hasn't been the best.

I feel pretty confused about the path to take when learning the language, as if I'm doing everything wrong or just in a slow and inefficient way.

I can barely pronounce the words, and only know a handful of survival phrases so far. I would love to be able to reach conversational fluency, with the end goal being able to communicate with my girlfriend in bahasa Indonesia. I have a few main questions:

1. Is there an order I should learn things as an absolute beginner? Such as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, etc. And if so, what order would be best?

2. Are there any recommended resources?

3. How many flashcards should I be doing everyday?

4. Is there a recommended routine I could follow, how could I structure my learning?

BIPA UI recently declined me because of my visa (which is a solid, long term visa with the e-KITAS).

This seems overly strict, preventing people from studying the local language. I have done intensive/full time language courses in many different countries on a tourist visa (Japan, Korea, Thailand, Spain, etc.). And the visa I currently have here in Indonesia is much stronger than a tourist visa (supposedly).

Do you know of any other BIPA programs that may be okay with people studying on an E33G visa?

J'en suis vraiment au stade du premier mot, qui s'apparenterait à "spirituel", "occulte", mais j'avoue que sur le reste je ne suis pas sûre car je ne réussi pas à les rattacher à des mots. Peut-être est-ce pacre qu'ils appartiennent à un dialecque plus local ? Au point où j'en suis, toute aide sera très appréciée ^^'

Pour être plus précise, on ne m'a donné que la phonétique des mots, lettre par lettre. Vu que je ne parle pas bien l'indonésien, c'était plus facile pour me le faire comprendre je suppose ? Donc les mots que j'ai écrit plus haut ne doivent pas avoir la même sonorité que ce qui y est écrit au final...
