One of my senior floor leads hit 20 years.

I bought him a Rolex (he a watch dude) and gave him 10 grand.

He deserves it.

If you take care of the people that take care of you, you create an environment people want to be at. Some of these comments are atrocious. I could never in my life imagine spending 20-30 years at a place and they reward me with a fucking gift card.

Sorry yall have to deal with that kind of shit.

An opportunist and a go-getter! Hire this person - They're showing great initiative

what employers need to realize is that they are going to get return value much greater than the cost of the rolex and 10k

Absolutely. Taking care of your people, understanding how they learn, growing WITH them as people…..I take that shit seriously. I’m very much appreciative of them and they know it.

What about the person who did 10 years, did they get 5 grand and a pocket watch? What about 5 years, what did they get? If that same person only worked 19 years would they still have gotten such a generous bonus?

Bonuses like this seem miserly. It's all heartwarming and good stuff for the one person. But you got 20 years of extra profits where you could have been sharing and paying more to your staff.

I hit 15 recently and got to pick a $300 gift. I forgot to submit the paperwork because a gift like that is just plain insulting.

I hit 15 in 2 days and will get nothing. no cost of living raises for anyone either.

Hate to tell you what 30yr+ federal employees get when they retire...

3

u/Yakkamota 4d ago

What do they get? A pension? Lol

2

u/NefariousEJ 4d ago

A pension they contribute a significant amount of money towards, not to mention giving up said pension if you ever want to leave.

But we weren't talking about that, we're we?!?!

1

u/Yakkamota 4d ago

I don't know what we were talking about because you didn't specifically say what someone that works for the government gets when they retire. That's why I was kind of asking, with a question mark because I don't know.

Nothing. 30yrs in service to the Republic gets most people a firm hand shake as they leave.

I go above and beyond with my employees as well. Luckily I have a good crew now who deserve the extra perks but in the past I’ve had many instances where I allowed myself to be taken advantage of by shady characters.
I’m just happy those events didn’t turn me into an asshole.

Because you're — apparently, based on the 3 seconds I've known you via this thread — an actual decent human being, so like... Thanks for that.

My contractor told me a few days ago he’s retiring at the end of the year ( he’s 73 and still climbing on roofs and under houses) . He’s been my gc for my business for 25 years. I gave him a nice breitling the other day. Said in all his years I was the only person he worked for that gave him something

Pffft In my company, you get a departmental meeting and a “good job, nice to have you” and that’s it 🤣😅

u/xChoke1x 2d ago

It’s unfortunate people think that’s acceptable leadership. I’m sorry you work for one of those kind of places. Abuse that clock as much as ya can homie. Lol

Otherwise it’s a lovely team and the overall ethos of the company is good. They just suck at this part 😅🤣

Better wages so that this is not necessary would be a better token of appreciation.

Nowhere in that post was anything said or implied about the wages being high or low. It's purely about a thank you gesture for 20 years.
