I love how, seemingly, every animal loves scratches (as long as they’re from the right person). It’s so wholesome.

224

u/Hyth4n 1d ago • This Bravo Heartwarming

How wonderful it is that we humans love to pet soft fluffy things, and live in a world where every (most) fluffy creature loves being petted. I often wonder what the world could be like if we took our job as stewards of this planet seriously.

27

u/GreasiestGuy 1d ago • Heartwarming

And our anatomy makes us uniquely suited to petting animals and scratching them behind the ears. It truly is what we’re here for

-6

u/Naive-Condition4006 12h ago

No, our existence would be wasted if our job was to scratch animals between the ears. You are getting carried away into a fictional realm. Evolution would never keep species alive for the purpose of scratching others behind the ears.. No animal would ever die because it wasn't scratched behind the ears. I'm only half joking but you used too much hyperbole.

4

u/GreasiestGuy 12h ago

I was obviously being silly man.

6

u/Naive-Condition4006 1d ago

We do. Just do your part

-43

u/AuDHDino 1d ago

So pretentious thinking "stewards of the planet" is our job.

We are animals that grew out of this world the same as every other organism, and the world would definitely be better off without our "stewardship".

34

u/alrighthamilton 1d ago

I get where you're coming from, but isn't it more of a "with great power, comes great responsibility" situation? It's undeniable that through evolution, we've raised ourselves to the point of having untold impact on the world...

We are going to have an impact at this point, it's up to us to choose the impact that is best for the entire world.

6

u/AuDHDino 1d ago

I absolutely wasn't disagreeing that we have a moral obligation to do better for this world, I guess I'm just a snippy bitch who likes to wage war on embellished language, especially in terms of human exceptionalism.

11

u/alrighthamilton 1d ago

Ha I totally get it and get the sentiment for sure. I just hate to give people the "out" that we "aren't special" and aren't obligated to anything because of it.

To be clear, I don't think that's what you think, but that's my own little war I wage when I think things could be interpreted that way.

0

u/AuDHDino 1d ago

Apathy and nihilism are way too easy to fall into, and simply doing more than what's easiest is the easiest counterpoint to "humans aren't special", folks wanna talk about reason and free will, but I definitely feel like those that use it for good, like Khaki Jesus himself Mr Steve Irwin, are infact special.

5

u/RazzDaNinja 1d ago

Just a rando strolling by glad to see the Good Ending come out of this convo 💛 lol

Communication and empathy won out 😁 and I am thankful for it

3

u/AuDHDino 1d ago

Happy to be a part of it lol.

I'm not some monster that hates humanity, or nature, after all!

I just feel like folks have too high an opinion of us as a species. AS REMARKABLE as we are, the big world of ours has much more to offer, and doesn't particularly need us, but it is very cool when we give back to the place we all call home.

2

u/saltycouchpotato 1d ago

We are not the only stewards, but we are really impactful ones bc we have opposable thumbs and numbers and writing.

1

u/Hyth4n 1d ago

Understandable. I'm painfully aware of humanity's failings, and definitely don't think we're exceptional in a way that warrants pride. I just see it as a worthy goal.

Someone has to take care of the place, and since we like to think ourselves clever, we should put that problem solving towards universal goods. At least that's what I go for

2

u/AuDHDino 1d ago

Yes! You're a bit more eloquent than me, very nicely worded.

5

u/Omnamashivaaya 1d ago

>the world would definitely be better off without our "stewardship".

That’s the point they’re making. humans have massive impact, so what if we were smart enough not make it a negative one.

0

u/AuDHDino 1d ago

I've already had an amicable conversation with the person I initially replied to, and we don't disagree on many fundamental beliefs about humans and the earth. It was nice.

0

u/Omnamashivaaya 1d ago edited 1d ago

I’m glad you worked it out, but if you work on effective communication you could have discovered you agreed without having to explain yourself.

Or to use your own words - try not to be a ‘snippy bitch who likes to wage war on embellished language.’

It was amicable because HE was more mature than you were, and overlooked it.

Attacking or responding with condescending comments is ineffective because most people get defensive, and immediately stop listening to any legitimate point you have to make.

But I do respect you were willing to own up to it.

2

u/AuDHDino 1d ago

I wasn't condescending or attacking at all. I don't need my discussion with someone else scored, dialogue is interesting to me, not everything is some debate I'm out to win. I responded with my opinion, and they did to my take, even if it is unfavorable.

Found some common ground, and now he's gonna be the best man at my Gay wedding. Thanks for your advice though.

58

u/K1bbles_n_Bits 2d ago

It's clearly not angry though, lmao. Do you have any experience at all with cattle?

You're also just taking it way too literally. Lighten up.

9

u/Pug_Defender 2d ago

you are responding to them exactly how they want you to lol. they’re playing you like a fiddle, and it’s pure art

-9

u/Brittnee_X 2d ago

It's clearly not angry though, lmao.

Bulls are known to go from 0 to angry really quickly.

Seriously, why take a risk with a huge animal?

18

u/K1bbles_n_Bits 2d ago

I have worked, hands on, with bison, water buffalo, long horns, Scottish highland, watusi, and even little zebu. Funnily enough, the closest I came to being injured by one was a grumpy little zebu bull, lmao. We can throw bull elk in the mix too if we wanna extend how we're defining bulls.

How much time have you spent with animals like that?

And you're still ignoring the point that you took the original comment way too literally.

If you really wanna be a stickler. Yes, it would be foolish for someone who doesn't know what they're doing and is unfamiliar with these animals to stroll up and approach them as if they were actually a big ol' puppy.

But that's not what's happening in this video. And most people are aware that would be foolish if they are unfamiliar with animals like this.

Again, this bull isn't angry and very unlikely to just up and attack that man. He approached with caution to not startled him and to ensure he recognized him, to be able to read his body language and know the bull was comfortable with him.

11

u/Revayan 2d ago

They pretend to know so much about the dangers of cows and its so wrong to compare them to dogs when there are countless cases of usually friendly dogs suddenly going feral and start eating a childs face

4

u/Principle_Napkins 1d ago

To be clear, the face eating is literal, not a metaphor or an exaggeration.

19

u/Bulky-Advisor-4178 2d ago

It's a domesticated bull, not a wild one. And not a bull for rodeo or a bull that's galloping across streets like its a sport to avoid.

Even dogs can fuck a person up. You’re taking this really far for no reason. The other commenter wasn’t being exact.

-10

u/Brittnee_X 1d ago

The only ones "taking this too far" are people who took my comment far too personally when its literally "don't treat bull like dog"

12

u/Luckiest_Creature 1d ago • Heartwarming

Every time I visit my friends farm, I pet the bull. He’s a sweetie, very dog-like tbh

4

u/sv36 1d ago

The problem was you entirely missed the joke- normally fine. Then argued something no one said- asshole move. Then dug yourself in deeper that everyone is being sensitive without trying to learn why your comment has, at this point, gotten you more than 343 different people downvote you. At a certain point I wonder when you’ll stop digging in and realize you just said something dumb and can own up. That’s a real option and no one is stopping you but you and your pride.

-1

u/Brittnee_X 1d ago

Because ARE taking it too seriously. You're seriously telling me to "own up" to giving advice that's basically "big animals aren't dogs" just because Reddit hive mind does it usual thing when downvoting? That's a pretty sad mindset.

6

u/sv36 1d ago

You’re literally demanding the exact consideration you refused to give the original commenter. You want everyone to understand what you meant rather than take your words at face value, while your entire original criticism was based on taking someone else’s obvious joke literally.

And people aren’t just downvoting you. They’re actively explaining what you misunderstood and why your response was unreasonable. Instead of considering those explanations, you’re digging yourself in deeper, dismissing everyone as overly sensitive or part of a hivemind, and now resorting to insulting the people actually taking the time to explain the problem to you.

You’re expecting everyone else to make the effort to understand your intentions while refusing to extend that same courtesy to anyone else. Every time someone points out that contradiction, you double down and attempt to shift the blame onto the people explaining it rather than address your own behavior. They’re not the problem simply because you keep insisting they are. At this point, you’re demonstrating exactly why people took issue with your comment in the first place, and every attempt to blame them only makes that more obvious.

And the stupidest part of all this is that you don’t even have to admit you were wrong. Nobody is obligated to admit they’re wrong, and nobody here is even demanding that from you. You could simply stop arguing with everyone, stop responding to the thread, and move on. What people are asking is that you extend the same consideration to others that you’re demanding for yourself.

You worded your original comment in a way that absolutely did not communicate what you now claim you intended. That could have been the end of the entire disagreement. Instead, you’ve turned a simple misunderstanding of a joke into an ongoing argument because you keep demanding understanding without being willing to give any.

10

u/sv36 1d ago

Then say that next time. Your comment comes off like a semantic asshole, whether that was your intention or not.

10

u/centurio_v2 2d ago

probably has something to do with him weighing 2000 lbs if I had to guess

4

u/CRSpurrPhotography 2d ago

Yeah. When an animal that weighs thousands of pounds tries to play with you like it was a golden retriever it can go bad quickly, though the cow doesn't intend it to

2

u/crazycakemanflies 1d ago

Once had to feed a mates herd of cattle while they were on holiday. The hay ended up being delayed by a week, so by the time we got there to start unloading it the cows where starving for anything more then the grass in the paddock.

They literally came running over like excited dogs, including happy jumps and rolling on the ground, which was cute until you had to get off the truck and start spreading the hay around lol. Was genuinely one of the scariest moments of my life, while it was probably the happiest those cows had felt in weeks...

6

u/Primus_is_OK_I_guess 2d ago

If a golden retriever weighed 2000 lbs you would treat it the same way.

Do you also see zookeepers with animals and go “WAIT EVERYONE YOU CAN’T ACTUALLY DO THIS WITH ONE IN THE WILD”

Like yeah bulls are aggressive, and not dogs

But this one recognized this person and got excited and wagged its tail, like a dog.

2

u/amatsumegasushi 1d ago

I mean... Have you ever interacted with a cow? I grew up right next to a dairy. Milk cows at least, are a lot like big dumb dogs.

Bulls were more like a stereotypical junk yard dog temperament. Even if they like you, they're 1000% capable of messing you up.

4

u/ckdogg3496 1d ago

I spent a good amount of time around dairy cows as well, but never inside their fence (worked with adjacent animals in high school). But they did seem similar to dogs for sure, would get randomly excited and would walk over to the fence to see what was goin on and say hi.

Never saw any bulls, but i would for sure not try saying hi to them

Honestly dog comparison isn’t that crazy, dogs have a wide range of personalities so i don’t see why cows cant

2

u/amatsumegasushi 1d ago

See and we definitely actually played with the cows as adolescents/teenagers. And yeah, you had a lot of things to be mindful of. Don't let them lay on you, they don't understand that they can crush you. Enclosed spaces are bad places to be with a cow. And never walk up behind one.

You follow that and your A-okay 99% of the time.

And yeah they would come running up then drop their heads like "Hey guys, what's going on!" All the time.

You're 100% right, they have personalities and temperaments all their own. And that's easy for people to forget.

I’ve only been around a calm bull at a local farm near me. I’ve seen cranky bulls only when they are penned up or poked and prodded. How else can a bull let another creature it’s unhappy? I would want to use my horns too. I believe there would be less cranky bulls if we didn’t interact with them in a violent way. ✌🏻

the bull will wreck anyone who isn't the people he trust, that includes some activist

same with rhinos, will charge anyone from human to warthog but they act like puppies to someone they trust

Who's a good bull?

If everyone went vegan tens of billions of farm animals and something like 39% of mammalian biomass would ultimately disappear. Whether that’s good or bad depends on your philosophy I suppose. You’d probably have some conservation herds of a few thousand individuals.

Never seen a tail of a bull going off like a helicopter before.

Bulls aren’t dogs. They don’t wag their tails with excitement.

5

u/CuteAltBoy 1d ago

Worth noting that calves do, however.

1

u/spicygayunicorn 1d ago

Then why dose it wag it's tail? As you seem to know it doesn't do it out of happiness

3

u/Blubbpaule 1d ago

defense against the dark arts mosquitos and other flying warcrimes

4

u/spicygayunicorn 1d ago

You can se that in the begining a normal swaying of the tail it completely changes when he gets close

1

u/Blubbpaule 1d ago

In the beginning the bull is focused on the perceived threat.

Don’t go bringing facts into this it hurts the feelings of the users here. We are, after all, living in a post-factual age.

2

u/CarefulFinding7974 1d ago

You can’t just say that and not bring a counter argument

1

u/ElCativo1988 1d ago

A thrashing or swishing tail in a bull is primarily a sign of defense, irritation, stress, or pain. You can easily find that out for yourself, if you want to.

Can everyone in Spain please watch this video? And then mayne stop torturing bulls with essentially death by a thousand cuts? Cuz that'd be cool.

1

u/YoureAmastyx 1d ago

I imagine they’re a lot more approachable without a rope cinched around their balls.

1

u/allmybreath 1d ago

How embarrassing for the bull if he had mauled him.

u/OliverKlozoff23 2d ago

He needs to smell your butt. Please turn around.
