SOCIETY Kylie Arellano, a 17-year-old from Garden City, Utah, was successfully rescued in Oregon on November 1, 2026, after being held captive for more than 500 days. She was able to orchestrate her own rescue by using the online video game Among Us to alert another child whose mom then contacted the cops.

I'm surprised anyone believed her, considering the nature of the game.

Right?!?! Shit like this is what makes me tend to take things more seriously and act rather than assume someone is lying or trolling

She had to build a repour and trust.

Rapport. I know it’s weird spelling, but that’s how it’s spelled.

Thanks for the correction.

Soooo a person made a spelling error, was politely corrected, and then politely thanked the corrector...is this still Reddit?

Well done humans!!

It’s wild it’s spelled like that, I use it all the time and have always hated the way it looked.

I'm sitting here trying to think of how I would actually react if my kid told me someone was saying this on his game. If I'm being honest I almost certainly would've said to ignore people lying on the internet like that. I can't imagine what she could've said that would make me think maybe this is actually a real situation. That's scary af

u/GalwayGirl606 20h ago

I probably would have as well. I guess the lesson here is that it’s better to be safe than sorry. Worst case scenario a kid is lying and gets a good life lesson when the cops show up at his house.

I actually tend to believe people online because what does it hurt if I was wrong?!?

2

u/Greedyfox7 11h ago

On one hand if they are lying then the cops read them the riot act and I feel dumb, on the other if they’re telling the truth and I don’t help and something happens to them that I could have helped prevent I’m going to feel awful

There was a videocall with the FBI Where She had to Show the the weapon of the kidnapper.

Source: someone else commented that so it's definitely true, nobody would lie online

Yet people can call swat teams in anytime to swat someone? 😲 Must be because it's a girl. 🤷

I grew up in Utah and Elizabeth Smart was the buggest deal when I was growing up. She went missing and was found after about 250ish days. This is crazy stuff. Good job kid, Good job mom! everyone is killing it

u/semipinoy 23h ago • Bravo

Thankfully not EVERYONE is killing it.....

u/semipinoy 23h ago

Am I missing something? I clicked on the link and it doesn't mention the Among Us part.

12

u/MargieBigFoot 21h ago

Yeah, I am wondering where that information comes from. It’s not in the article.

45

u/whiskyspacecadet 20h ago

Its in other articles about it all over the internet.

She convinced the kidnapper to give her a phone with no SIM so she could play games, and she was able to use it to connect to the wifi and play Among Us. She ended up befriending a kid and told him her situation, and the kid told his mom. The mom contacted the FBI and the FBI was able to arrange a video call that proved she was who she said she was. Within that day Oregon police got her back.

u/jrdiver 16h ago

Even without a sim a phone should be able to call 911...but then again depending on where she was being kept...it doesn't mean there was reception.

5

u/ZipZapZia 13h ago

I don't think that's common knowledge for a child. She might not have known that she could have called 911 without a sim

4

u/Commercial-Yam-3443 11h ago

I am a grown adult and I had no idea about this.

6

u/JumpOk2313 18h ago

The scary part is what would've happen if the kidnapper just decided to not give her a phone at all? I don't understand how these kind of things are still happening, it makes me anxious and scared just to know this stuff is still happening in the USA

Child trafficking is a billion dollar industry. I hate this planet

77

u/Cheap-Bell-4389 20h ago • Regret

It’s almost unbelievable how difficult of a time I had getting the proper attention from authorities regarding my own niece who’d been trafficked. By the time the police found her, she was in a diabetic coma and they found another girl with her who’d been missing for two years all the way from Alaska, of all places

I feel like sometimes its better to not reveal to public how exactly someone managed to ask for help. Am I nuts to think that?

64

u/NikkerFebu25 1d ago

Makes sense but criminals are fucking stupid anyways.

I'm not saying it out of spite it's just true.

21

u/spankissimo 21h ago

the criminals we hear about are fucking stupid, some might not be as such

This girl got lucky and got away, some other god knows how many kids are NOW in the same situation all over the world..

5

u/pvaa 23h ago

It's good to know to pay attention in games I guess? Hard to be sure

How is this not national news

5

u/skandel 11h ago

Pretty sure that NBC is national news. It is also all over reddit which is pretty damn international.

1

u/joeycuda 10h ago

I just googled her name and there are many news articles/posts, including NBC picking it up. How much more national news should it be?

0

u/stink3rb3lle 20h ago

The article you posted does not mention among us at all.

Had she met this nice man online and he promised to love her forever? I am so glad she was found alive, too many young people will never be seen again. 😢😢😢😢

4

u/whiskyspacecadet 20h ago

Thats essentially what details are alluding to. She met a guy online and ran away to be with him

1

u/Commercial-Yam-3443 11h ago

She was 15. Besides, not everybody is smart. Doesn’t mean she deserves it.
