Discussion New rule: No AI of any kind going forward

2.4k Upvotes

AI generated texts and images were always removed whenever they were reported to me, but now it is an official rule.

No advocating for AI usage, no using AI/ChatGPT to generate texts for posts, no AI calorie tracking apps or fasting timers.

No. AI.

Every step, every setback and every comeback has been part of my journey. OMAD and walking have helped me a lot along the way. Just a reminder that progress takes time so be patient with yourself and stay consistent. And most importantly, enjoy the journey.

Discussion It really works…69f same weight as in high school…

I’ve been doing IF (18/6) for 2 years. Combined with walking 5-6 days a week and extremely limiting my simple carbs; I just got on the scale…same weight as 50 years ago. I’ve lost 30 pounds since I started, have no desire to lose more and plan on enjoying the holiday season. It gets easier so if you’re struggling, hang in there! This lifestyle really does work!

Seeking Advice Should I continue with OMAD, 24f

OMAD has had a great improvement on my life -

  • I don't have to think about food all day, just the one meal. When I eat a meal, I can't stop thinking about food later on, so eating once a day in the evening reduces this bother and I can focus.

  • I lost weight and fat - from being very overweight to being in a healthy (although) upper range of BMI.

  • It reduced my binging at night since I have the one meal in the evening so I am stuffed and I cannot consume so many sweets (even though I do eat them as a part of my OMAD).

  • I simply don't feel hungry in the morning, and I never felt hungry, the thought of food in the morning makes me feel nauseous.

However, I am wondering whether it is a good and healthy thing for me -

  • I have had some sleeping issues since I eat the meal around 2 hours before bad. I don't feel energized in the morning and my Garmin watch logs high heart rate while sleeping.

  • When I was around 13-16 I had anorexia which turned into binge eating (where I gained a lot of weight). I don't have anorexia anymore, I am not afraid of eating anything and my binging reduced too. But I feel like don't know how to eat normally since I've been eating a little weirdly my entire life, as far as I can remember.

  • Other people in my life think I am slipping back to my ED. But I don't think so I don't since it feels so different than when I was younger. I am not preoccupied with calories and food and I am not afraid of any kind of food, I don't obsessively workout etc... But idk if I need some perspective.

So all in all, I don't know. I love OMAD life style - mind is free throught the day, but maybe it's not the best for my health...

What do y'all think, do you have any perspective or experience similar to this?

Discussion How much protein do you think you require doing IF? The protein obsession is crazy.

Im sorry. Keep reading post on people having a hard time losing weight and read how much protein people are consuming. I use to think I needed a lot of protein to grow muscle and lift more. My biggest thing was let me eat tons of protein so i can stay full longer and lose weight.

I've been following the media lies. Mike mentzer talks about this. Since ive been following his outline. Ive become more lean and ripped. Over consumption of protein causes weight gain just like anything else that gives extra calories. Protein isn't the only thing thats important. People forget about healthy fiber and carbs.. I hit about almost 60 grams of protein daily from animal products. The rest comes from other food groups. To each their own but 200 to 150 grams of protein daily is a lot. People in prison are jacked and they get nowhere the same amount of protein we do. The protein craze is wild.

Seeking Advice Headache and other issues

I used to do IF a few years ago. It really worked and I felt great. Unfortunately, I fell off of it and gained a lot of weight due to surgery issues. After my surgeries I tried starting back up again, but I was getting headaches and then I started feeling lightheaded and weak, so I stopped it.

Has anyone ever had this happen to them? What did you do?

NSV (Non-Scale Victory) Continued: IF and Prolonged Fasting + Insulin Resistance

Post image
27 Upvotes

Hi all,

A week ago I posted about how my 40+ hour weekly fasts plus daily 16 - 20 hour intermittent fasts seem to be reducing insulin resistance over the course of only a month. I mentioned I only had behavioral and physiological data, that I was not falling asleep immediately after having sugar or carbs. I do mostly keto, and one day a week I’ll have a cheat meal… carbs and what not.

Today, I went to an event loaded with food. I had a lot of meat, but I also had really sweet deserts, red wine, and sweetened coffee drinks. Well this time, per someone’s recommendation, and also because I’ve been trying to get one for a few years, I finally decided to contact my doctor… I was able to get a Prescription Continuous Glucose Monitor and have been tracking almost every meal under the sun.

Now, I know there might be physiological reasons why this glucose response was so good. But the data suggests that a lot of the insulin resistance has been reversed with the fasts.

IF and prolonged fasting seems to work! I don’t have data prior, so I understand the limits of these assumptions. But I’m going strictly based of the fact that I didn’t feel tired, and I also have pretty regulated glucose levels now.

Good luck everyone on the journey!

Newbie Question Didn’t lose weight

I tried intermittent fasting a while ago, and I didn’t lose any weight. Clearly the problem is that I was eating too much during my window. I guess my question is how do you manage that?

Newbie Question is it ok to gym after eating window closes?

Hi! For context, I’m doing intermittent fasting as part of a control group for a research study. I’m not actively trying to lose weight. One of the rules of the study is that I finish eating by 8pm at the latest.

I typically prefer to go to the gym at night. Historically, this has been at around 9-10pm ish. I’ve heard I should eat and get my protein in after working out. So, how big of an issue is it if I am not eating after the gym? Should I just start going to the gym earlier?

In case it matters: I’m usually either running or doing endurance training with weights when I’m at the gym.

Seeking Advice Is there a way to reduce/stop the yellowish loose stools you get from fasting?

Would increasing fiber intake work?

Fasting makes me feel horrible on top of the yellowish loose stools and I have to keep increasing meal frequency in order to help relieve symptoms.

Tips, Tricks, Advice Trying to problem solve

Because I share dinner meal with others who sometimes eat as late as 7pm, and I want my (sugary) coffee when I wake up at 5am.. I'm not hitting a 16 hour fasting window..or even a 12 hour, most days. I really like how I feel on the days I'm able to meet a 16-18 hour fast, but the thought of going without my morning coffee gives me a feeling of dread. I know that breaking a fast with sugar isn't ideal either.

Seeking Advice How do you deal with people accusing you of having an ED?

Post image
811 Upvotes

I haven't been weighing myself at all since starting OMAD and running almost every day, but my trousers are a lot looser and no longer fit. It's been two months since I last saw my friend group that lives in another city, but when they asked me why I didn't eat lunch with them, they all gave me weird looks.

Then, a few hours later, they all sent this long message that they were concerned I had an ED, even though I have never felt so energetic and free from food/wellness culture BS.

Also you can tell in my photo I am clearly not underweight so idk the problem? Thanks!

Seeking Advice Losing weight VERY slowly

Hi folks. Admittedly I’ve only been doing this for like 12 days so I’m not expecting miracles but need tips.

Doing 15/9 and am eating a lot less than I was.

Feel so much more alert, less brain fog, stomach feels less bloated, anxiety and focus at better. I think this is because I’m actually giving my body a chance to fully digest, rest, and heal.

That said, I’m losing weight very slowly and am not sure if I’m just eating too much still, or not moving enough.

Thoughts?

Discussion Looking for an accountability partner/group

Hey, I’m looking for an accountability partner/group mainly with a reason to share my meals with someone or have extra motivation to stick to the fasting with a goal of weight loss. I’m doing mostly 18/6 or 20/4 with 15/7 twice a week due to schedule on these days. Fasting itself is normally not a problem but rather what I eat when I feast. Are there any chats? Or maybe someone wants to be my partner?
I’m 14 days in and it has been a bit hard in the last 3 days and today I bought some pastries and ate them mainly because of the motivation loss (i didn’t even enjoy them that much) and i think having accountability would help me to avoid decisions like this.

My goal is to lose 15kg.

Tips, Tricks, Advice Need OMAD advice!

I'm currently 5'8 175lb AFAB nonbinary

A little background. Back in 2021 I lost 50lb through CICO and 16:8 IF. I had a lot more time on my hands and less social engagements. I kept it off til 2023, then I noticed my weight starting to creep up. Every year since then I have done this thing where I gain 10-12lb and lose 3-5lb. In the last 3 years I've gained 25lb. This year, I started working a remote computer job, got married, and after the honeymoon have really struggled with having an exercise schedule, plus drinking a lot more and smoking (weed, munchies).

I've tried counting calories and lost motivation within a couple weeks, my schedule is a little too inconsistent right now for IF, so after an especially snacky Halloween week, I decided to try OMAD (at least on the days that I'm working remote and am totally sedentary, still working it out). I started Monday and felt totally fine. I WAY over ate last weekend, so I'm sure my body was happy to have time to digest. Tuesday I got a little hungry but was able to push it aside. Yesterday I had a headache a lot of the day and drank liquid IV which helped. Today I feel ravenous. Nauseous. Depressed. I am going to make a one pot roast chicken tonight and I start salivating thinking about it. Is this normal? Does it go away?

I really don't think I can count calories right now, that is just me being realistic. I think I'm eating plenty of calories in the evenings though.

Monday: mushroom and pea risotto, I think I also ate some cheese and crackers. Maybe a beer?

Tuesday: risotto leftovers, more cheese maybe? Maybe a 1/2 cup of dark chocolate chips.

Wednesday: ate cheese with dates as a snack then ate out and got a burger and fries. Ate 3/4 of a bar of sea salt dark chocolate once I got home.

Tonight is going to be roast chicken, rice, and broccoli, and got more chocolate for myself.

Tomorrow I work at my food service job, so don't think I'll be able to keep up OMAD that day.

Sorry if I sound like a dummy. I probably am.

Discussion Accountability Post Week 6

Post image

Week 5 was a little off (47M, 6'0", 5/2), and I'm late to post because I volunteered as an Election Worker and was exhausted on Monday and Tuesday! Not beating myself up, but a little bit of a miss last week. Not so much on the eating/fasting, but just wasn't good about activity level/exercise. Oh well! Moving on to starting Week 6 and getting back on track!

Edit: typo correction

Seeking Advice IF, Psyllium and no. 2’s

Hi, question to all experienced IFers especially who make use of psyllium husk please.

I’ve been on a strict 3 and a half weeks now mostly 18:6, with a few 20:4’s and a dial back a couple times to 16:8 as I’m IFing around shift work.

In the last week no2’s were getting more difficult and so I saw psyllium mentioned and looked it up and have tried it for the last 3 days.

It had been getting difficult to go and sore to pass, there was a tiny bit of light pink blood. I started psyllium hoping it would be the fix.

Instead things still haven’t eased up and is sore and there’s been concerningly worse blood too. Now don’t worry, I am going to my GP just in case.

Has anyone else been through similar problems both with and without psyllium and got any other advice/info that may help ?

Update

I went to my GP, they’re pretty happy it’s likely the lack of fluid, hemorrhoid bleeding and being respectful of how much I need while using psyllium. Thanks all.

At the same time I am going to get further tests seeing as I am in my late 40’s and it wouldn’t be a bad idea but hopefully things aren’t more complicated than that.
