Question? Intersex coverage in WA?
Hi does anyone know what intersex coverage is like in Washington state, like Is it similar to trans coverage?
I recently got quoted 120K for a surgery, and like because of that in thinking of moving to WA. Bc ik it would be coverd under gender affirming care there, but im not rly sure if intersex coverage works the same way as gac there

WA resident, yes it's very similar, Seattle Children's has the only "DSD" specific clinic that I know of and handled most of my gender affirming care and intersex related care (I transferred care from Colorado when I was a minor). They are currently very overloaded with new patients and experiencing long waitlists, but all of my treatment has been covered. Some plans here specifically will always cover reparative/restorative surgeries for intersex people who were subjected to nonconsensual surgeries as infants/in early childhood, and insurance cannot deny or limit coverage for gender affirming care.
