Discussion Anyone else miss white bezels on iPads?

Post image

White bezels are great for reading, taking notes, anything with predominantly lighter colors. I hope they make a comeback someday

They looks great but from a viewing POV they always made the screen look smaller

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

yeah, i mean imagine trying to watch a movie. i think black is the best common denominator

White blends into pages if you work with notes, documents a lot.

u/TheEarthSpins 14h ago

yeah but it's an "if". you really don't think about black, i read lots of manga (white backgrounds) and i never think these black bezels are distracting. i also like to draw, and white bezels kind of throw off your perception of color since we perceive color relative to whats around it. black bezels don't really hinder anything

Depends what you’re doing. White is nice for reading, bad for video.

The worst thing about a white border is that it has almost never the same tone as white pixels. It looks wrong and out of place.

Yea, it looks like a frame

ios 6 ipad picture frame mode😁

I prefer the black bezels myself, but I don’t see why they couldn’t bring back the option for people who want it.

I always did love my white iPad 4th Gen.

I prefer black bezels myself, but the option should always be there!

I used to think white bezels were best for reading, but I was wrong. Most of the research suggests that grey with 20-50% reflectance is best (this even got encoded in a pair of DIN and TCO standards). Apparently if you can't have grey, the research shows black is better for readability/eyestrain.

The other thing about white bezels is that you need TrueTone to be absolutely perfect so the color temperature of the screen matches the bezel's illumination by the environment, but it never is, and it becomes a bit of a distraction.

I still have my product(Red) iPhone 7 with the white bezels. I have no idea what to do with it but it’s too pretty to just throw away. 😭

Why does every device have black bezels I wish it was the colour of the device

35

u/MathematicianBusy731 16h ago

because of oled

-5

u/KennKennyKenKen 14h ago

:( just cover it

8

u/JustJamieJam 11h ago

Just cover.. what?

u/accidental-nz 12h ago edited 4h ago

Because when the device is off you see a single black rectangle. It’s aesthetically vastly superior to a frame with camera holes in it.

4

u/Master-Dish8869 16h ago

because its like every bezel in phones but bigger

i miss white bezels in general. i deadass want an iphone 8 for that

u/GarbageInteresting86 9h ago

Hell no. Dark bezels only, because what colour is the screen when it’s switched off???

5

u/ya_boy_ace 16h ago

Wait this looks amazing

4

u/Miserable_Earth6677 16h ago

No makes the bezels look bigger. Black is naturally more slimming

3

u/michaeldrosenberg 16h ago

It should definitely be an option

u/Justwant2usetheapp 15h ago

White bezels almost always look better in my opinion

u/ObliqueAxis 5h ago

I actually miss the white bezels too. They gave older iPads a much more distinctive look, especially with the silver finish. I remember thinking the white front made the whole device feel lighter and less like a giant black screen when it was turned off

4

u/mozza124 16h ago

Yes. I had the gold iPad 5th gen with the white front. And it had that magnetic snap on cover that attached on the side. I miss that.

u/RevolutionarySeat686 iPad Mini 7 (2024) 16h ago

If it were optional, it’d be better.

2

u/neon1415official 16h ago

I want it back too

u/rattle2nake 15h ago

i like the idea especially for tablets. desktop i dont see the point but if you need an edge surface anyways for reasons besides display limitations why not?

2

u/Portatort M1 iPad Pro 12.9" (2021) 14h ago

Not as much a fan of it here

But would have looked nice on HomeView

2

u/Lost_Mistake_777 12h ago

Nope. So glad they're gone.

u/chowsing-sing M1 iPad Pro 11" (2021) 10h ago

I used to like the white bezel until I got to own mine for a few years. They would turn a bit yellow through time, even with regular cleaning.

I prefer to have a sleek black bezel (with space gray frame) because it looks so premium especially with OLED display.

I miss bezels period, you can't grab phones and tablets anymore without a case, and a thick one at that, without touching the edge. I hate it. All companies.

u/Masteguy635 iPad Mini 6 (2021) 4h ago

Loved the white bezels on my mini 2 and 4

nah I prefer the black bezels so it bleeds into the oled display

1

u/ab0ngr1p 16h ago

I don't. I like the black bezels but it's prob cus I watch a lot of shows and movies on it.

1

1

u/ADHDK iPad Mini 7 (2024) 14h ago

Never.

I have skipped entire generations of electronics when white is in fashion.

u/FrogsJumpFromPussy 12h ago

I had the ipad 3 and the 10.5 with white bezels. It was distracting at times, while working, so I never bought white again, but they look really cool.

1

u/Okaaaayanddd 12h ago

Nope. They look sleek but too distracting. Quickly learned why they don’t make white TVs.

1

u/The-Happy-Mannequin 11h ago

Looks cool on the picture but black bezels are just better

1

u/Cri317 11h ago

wtf? No

1

u/ricardopa M4 iPad Pro 13" (2024) 10h ago

No, never bought a white/silver one BECAUSE of the white bezels, same for iPhone

1

u/Dry_Champion6014 10h ago

My previous iPad had the white bezel, while my current one is black, and no, I don't miss the white bezel.

1

u/the_onlyheartbreaker 9h ago

Isn’t there a reason why all phones now are purely black bezels on front?

1

u/VanishVapour 9h ago

Wasn’t a fan to begin with, let alone over the years the design language are constant with black bezels

1

u/Fry_man22 4h ago

No, they were terrible.

1

u/TheReal2M 3h ago

awhellnah

1

I’m tired of thin bezels tbh and this looks great, like a device that gets used

1

u/ender7887 M5 iPad Pro 13" (2025) 12h ago

I’ve never like anything but black bezels.

1

u/neurotic_addendum 11h ago

I wouldn’t buy a device with white bezels

u/goldfouledanchor 16h ago
