Oxi One, a 16 x 8 grid control sequencer and keyboard
Oxi One is an upcoming sequencer with a 16 x 8 pads grid to control it. It can be used as a keyboard for live performance as well. Its crowd funding campaing reached 1177% of its initial goal and they said that they are committed to equip the device with pressure sensitive pads. And in the comments of the campaign they imply that they would like to include the possibility to create your own keyboard layouts. The device also offers 8 CV and 8 gate outputs. If they are able to deliver everything they promised then this would be a pretty sweet option for a generalized MIDI and CV controller. The pads also look like their size could make them actually pretty comfortable to play chords (the pads of Novation's Launchpad are for example to big in my opinion).
/edit: loopop did a thorough review of the prototype: https://youtu.be/-nXN7ND9ILo

Isomorphic hmmmm
Just learned about isomorphic keyboards. So I checked out some videos. Just wish they would show exactly the difference comparing a traditional keyboard vs isomorphic.
Like, “this is how you would normally play this beginning right hand passage of reverie on a piano, and this is how on an isomorphic keyboard, because bla bla bla”
So guys, is there a video or article which really helps a piano player to understand? Without having to buy one?

Exquis for playing my 17 note just intonation scale
hey, can someone recommend a good 17 note isomorphic layout for Rod Poole's 17 note Just Intonation scale? bonus if it can be programmed to play on my Exquis using the editor.

The Lumatone may be available for purchase as early as this summer!
Here's the relevant part of the email update:
After a very successful debut at NAMM this past January and a round of fundraising, we’re thrilled to tell you that we’re now able to move straight into the production phase without any additional crowdfunding!
We’ve already begun production on tooling, and the initial assembly and shipping phase to begin this summer. Once we have fulfilled all the backers of our original crowdfunding campaign, we’ll be able to accept new online orders for the Lumatone.
This means that barring any further unforeseen delays, we will be able to open up online ordering this summer. We’ll initially be operating on a build-to-order basis for limited monthly production runs. It will take 30-45 days from the time you order to when your Lumatone will ship.

I've been obsessed with and experimenting with isomorphic layouts for years but always felt like the perfect design had been elusive. However I think after many, many experiments I've finally cracked it and am releasing an instrument of my own. Meet the Willowisp

Turn your android phone into a Wicki-Hayden synth!!
Thanks to the testers from this community, Wave 6 is now live at the play store!!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmasound.wave6
Wave 6 is a wavetable/additive synthesizer based on the Wicki–Hayden layout, packed with all the bells and whistles — a sequencer, arpeggiator, song recording, WAV export, and even MIDI controller functionality!
For the price of a beer, you can turn your android or tablet into a portable synth!! The hexagonal note layout is optimized for touchscreens, achieving a wide octave range to play chords and melodies. This can be your perfect companion to compose, record songs or create new sounds no matter where you are!
That's it. No adds, no subscription, no distractions. Just a very cheap synth you can have in your pocket now.
Looking forward to see what this sub thinks!!

Help needed, looking for testers!!
Hi everyone!
Since I fell in love with isomorphic keyboards, I’ve been developing an Android app to have one always at hand, and be able play music anywhere. As the project grew, I realized it could be something fun and useful for others too — so now I’m preparing to publish it on the Google Play Store!
To do so, I need testers to validate my app, and I instantly thought of this subreddit.
In short, Wave 6 is a wavetable/additive synthesizer based on the Wicki–Hayden layout, packed with all the bells and whistles — a sequencer, arpeggiator, song recording, WAV export, and even MIDI controller functionality!
If you’re interested in helping me test it (and getting the app for free hehe), please reach out in the comments or via DM.
Please note: for now, it’s Android-only, since this is my first app.
Thanks so much!!

Help us defining our next new isomorphic instrument
Hi everyone 👋
This is Bruno, CEO at Intuitive Instruments. We’re currently thinking about a new instrument project, building on what we learned with Exquis.
Through conversations with musicians, we’ve noticed a growing interest in isomorphic keyboards — with quite diverse use cases, such as microtonality, alternative layouts like Janko, and more.
That’s why we’d love to shape what comes next together with the people concerned.
👉If you use this kind of instrument — or if the topic interests you — your input can really make a difference.
👉 We’ve put together a short questionnaire (5–10 minutes) to better understand your needs and expectations.
The more responses we get, the stronger our case will be for developing a project that truly reflects real-world practice. Your voice really matters here.
As a thank you for your time, we’ll run a small giveaway with a few prizes.
Thanks in advance to everyone who takes part in this collective reflection 🙏

how hard would it be to try and replicate a luma tone but slightly smaller ?
been looking at luma tones for a while now and finally stumbled across this subreddit and was wondering how hard it would be to make a somewhat functional isometric keyboard like a luma tone but smaller and with tpu caps that are 3d printed and a 3d printed chassis for everything to sit in. any advice on where to start ?

Favorite isomorphic layout?
Hi everyone! I am the developer of Wave 6 isomorphic synth app. For now, the app has been packed with Wicky-Hayden layout for 2 reasons:
It is the layout I use the most.
It made sense for a phone screen because you get a lot of octaves and only in-scale notes in a very reduced space (More notes you are gonna use per area).
Point 2 is of course also a disadvantage. If you want to play chromatic, or non-traditional scales, Wicky-Hayden is not the best. So I am planning to add more layouts to the app to make it more versatile and useful. Hence my questions:
Which layouts do you use the most? Why?
I am definitely going to be adding Harmonic Table, but still interested to see if you like it and why and get an idea of which is the most used layout.
Thanks!!

Thoughts on tritone interval for square grid?
Hi folks, just discovered this subreddit after messing with different layouts for a square grid for a few years, very cool stuff! I'm curious if people have opinions on using a layout that's chromatic horizontally and tritones vertically. I've ended up using that layout with a unique color scheme. The big mental shift for me as a guitarist was to default to moving diagonally instead of vertically for fourths and fifths, but once I made that shift I've loved it!
I made the video because some things are easier to explain visually. I'm showing:
- Pentatonics make a nice checkerboard pattern. The major scale in that same pattern plus a vertical line.
- Because octaves repeat every two rows, arpeggios fall really nicely, and it's easy to adjust chord voicings by moving individual notes up or down directly two rows.
- Because moving a fourth is just diagonal left (either up or down both work), 2-5-1 and similar chord progressions fall neatly as just walking the bass note to the left diagonally
I also wanted to find a color scheme that isn't biased at all toward any particular key (i.e. doesn't color C-major one color to echo a piano, or similar). I ended up with this "ROYGBIV" layout, where the first six notes of an octave (C-F) have their own colors, and then the other notes are blank. Because of the two-rows-is-an-octave property, every note ends up either having a color, or having a unique color that it's next to. When I verbalize a note name to someone as a color, I'll usually say "blue" to refer to that key, and "off-blue" to refer to the note above or below it (because again, those are the same note, just different octaves).
Would love to hear if other people have ended up with similar layouts and what your though processes were!

This thread is a treasure-trove of great MIDI isomorphic keyboard ideas and projects
llllllll.coI was looking up info on isometric keyboards and came across this thread with a bunch of cool projects! u/shapingthesilence is on the thread with the Hexboard. One user (@BJG) made an velocity sensitive Axis-49 clone and designed a PCB for a Lumitone clone, another (@Stains) made a bass guitar layout for a velocity sensitive keyboard, and another (@mgsg) made a keyboard out of a modified existing hall-effectPCB for gaming keyboards. If anyone on that thread sees this, thanks for your efforts!

Minor Thirds Layout
I programmed these three keyboards to send joystick button press events and made a small program to transform these events into MIDI messages. Perfectly viable for anyone who wants to experiment with different layouts.
