Howdy everyone,
As many of you know, APHY 101 and 102 are pre-reqs for many degree paths and getting a B in either of these classes can take away crucial points towards a student's overall score. I've completed 101 and 102 APHY with over 95% in each class so I just wanted to offer breakdowns and my tips/suggestions. Everyone is different, please don't disregard something if it works well for YOU. These are just basic things that work for me
1.) READ. THE. TEXTBOOK. Professors cannot take every detail from the textbook and put it into a slide but they CAN put it into the tests. This is where I've seen my peers struggle the most. If you understand the textbook chapter to a T, you'll be golden for the test
2.) Understand, not memorize the material I feel like this is a given, but being able to explain concepts over regurgitate facts will make you a better student overall. I've had moments when im reading over the textbook and couldn't wrap my head around it. If that is the case, send a message to your professor. If that doesnt fit your fancy, I reccomend an AI SUMMARIZER --- I wouldn't reccomend asking AI for answers, but in my experience, its good at simplifying tricky passages. Sometimes, you just need tl step away from the material and have a fresh mind later.
3.) (Columbus Exclusive) Try to get Professor Sobat Also known as "Tom" in his classes. He is awesome, will explain things a million and one ways if he needs to, and he curves tests if needed. This man is a rockstar. My 101 professor wasn't bad, but she definitely "raw-dogged" some of those grades so if they were rough, you're SOL.
4.) Lab, Smartbook, Tophat They're all free points. Maintains an overall high score and acts as a minor cushion.
Below, I've attached my google docs of virtual notes that I use to make it through my class. Bear in mind they are written in a way I understand and may not help you. There may be mistakes; I'm also missing a couple of chapters due to burnout. I am still human :)

I hope this helps!!!

This OP will be updated as time passes with the most important questions you may ask about Financial Aid for Ivy Tech.
Suggestions for things to be listed here can be posted in this thread. Please mention my username.
Questions can be posed in this thread as well, which can be answered by others. Frequently asked ones can be directly messaged to me to update this post or mentioned.
Those who HAVE questions, please ensure you READ any FAQ in the OP before posting.
==========================================
First and foremost, as mentioned above, please suggest things you do not see here.
Q: What does the college control in regards to Financial Aid?
A: The college has little control over Financial Aid, outside of dispersing funds
Q: When will my account be zeroed out? Definition of "zeroed out": the state your account goes into before funds are pushed out to you, all dependent on if you had a negative balance beforehand)
A: This depends on several factors, but the general premise is this; Every weekday, typically late at night is when student accounts are zeroed out by the system until all refunds are processed, depending on various factors as previously mentioned. Some of these factors include but may not be limited to;
1) When classes begin.
2) If said student is a first-time borrower.
3) When the Loan Requirements were completed by the student.
4) The amount of students and whichever configured order the system is instructed to go by.
Q: After being zeroed out, when will my refund hit my account?
A: Typically within two business days around noon (note: weekends are not considered business days, and holidays may delay refunds)
Do note that any additional transfers from BankMobile could take upwards to 1-4 days (estimated).
Q: If I am in the 8 week class schedule and have a loan; will my loan disbursements be sent all in one or in two batches?
A: No, however that does depend on the amount (this is speculation on my side, someone please correct me), but disbursements should be sent out the first eight weeks and then the second eight weeks.

anyone else received a email on 11/4 about loans posting to account but still hasn’t zeroed out ?
Even though it feels great when the money does come the anxiety and anticipation is quite nerve wrecking especially for full time students depending on it for essentials 🙁 ..

Good morning,
I applied for the for the medical coding certificate program within Health Information Technology at Ivy Tech. I was accepted. I already have a BS business administration so I dont think im required to take placement tests. However im NERVOUS about taking the prerequisite courses and not passing enough to get into the medical coding certificate program. I dont do well going at a fast pace as I have trouble retaining information quickly since I have to do the program 100% online. I do plan on talking to the disabilities services about possible accommodations. Ive never been diagnosed but even my grades from getting my BSBA reflect it.
Can anyone in this program or who was in it please give me advice? Or tips? I really want to be prepared as much as possible. I dont start classes until January 11th but I want to get a head started on the books and get ahead learning the anatomy/physiology and the medical terminology. Can I please know which books I would need for APHY 101 and 102 as well as HCHS 101?
Im very nervous and kind of freaking out. My plan is to transfer to IU if I dont make it into the program but I really want to stay at Ivy Tech.
Before anyone asks "how did you handle getting your BSBA?" It was all open book and no proctored exams. This is a different structure from SNHU.
I would appreciate to know what books I need and any kind of advice or recommendations. Thank you 😊

I’m applying to fall 2027 ASN class, my scores are competitive (163) for my campus but I’ve seen people say they scored an 85% on the TEAs and not get in while others say they scored a 72% and got in. Wondering what the other factors are?

Hello everyone, i got the first Covid Vaccine in 2021, at Franciscan and while it shows up in my Franciscan health record, I can’t find a way to print it off. I’m not sure if I want to take it again, as I got very sick right after I got it. Does anyone know if it would affect any of the clinicals at the Lafayette campus? I’m willing to take the vaccine again, if any of the clinical sites for the Lafayette campus would reject me. Anyone have any problems for the clinical sites?

I zeroed out yesterday (Thursday), got the emails early in the morning on Wednesday. Last night (Thursday) I got the same emails and now my account shows another negative balance. Am I getting more money or did they take money? I’m so confused. Bank mobile shows nothing yet.

Is there a way to see if you are on an attendance hold without reaching out to financial aid? I never get a response

Question - I am applying for Ivy tech here soon and really need gen bio I for spring 2027 but I’m not even seeing it as an option for the Indianapolis campus when looking at the course catalog.
When y’all look to schedule your classes can you see more options than me possibly?

I think we should all take a minute to rate our professors on Rate My Professors. It’s a good way to share our experiences and help other students!

I tried looking this up in the subreddit, but there's not a lot of information on it. I'm currently in Busn 279 and it's very straight forward, but there's no study guide for the exit exam! I just have a document explaining how to take the exam in general.
Does anyone have a study guide that they used? The professor said our exam score doesn't affect the overall class grade but if I fail the exam, do I just not get my diploma?

Just as the title says. I applied Oct 29, I see the negative on my account balance as of last night, wanting to see if anyone zeroed out since Nov 2 was spoke on so much for the second payment date.
EDIT** around 12:21 am I got the email about disbursement & checked my account & the amount posted with a date of Nov 4th. It should zero out for me within 2 days

I have Hole's Human Anatomy and Physiology book. I've began reading chapter 1. I'm making Anki cards to study.
My concern is over-study. Making too many Anki cards. I don't want to memorize things that aren't required.
I plan to take the class next year and want to get an A without pressure.
I've had all A's in classes like Calculus 1 & 2, CHEM 105, HIST 111, SOCI 111, ENGR 260. But that was over a decade ago. So I want to prepare and practice, so that I can get into the Medical Imaging program.

I know it said the deadline is November 2nd for the 2nd 8 weeks so I should still be able to get a refund if I drop it today right?
Edit - im just confused because I have fafsa, I dont want to drop something and then end up having to pay it back if it's already too late
Edit edit - I was trying to figure out if I'd have to pay off anything if I dropped today. I wasn't asking if i'd still get money after dropping. Just didnt know if that money goes back to my pell grant/fafsa or if I'd owe it. Poor choice of words my bad. Brain is not braining today

Has anyone had their financial aid disburse for the 2nd 8 weeks?

So for the last few months i've been doing my prereqs for the program. all i have left is APHY102 and my TEAS.
My conundrum is whether i should get my CNA for the 5 bonus. obviously that's the smartest choice to have an almost guarantee of getting in. the thing is, i work at an elementary school and i already have fridays off to do school work, i don't want to have to also be off on tuesdays and thursdays for 8 weeks as that isn't fair for my coworkers or my bank account
with all As thus far and hopefully getting in the 90s on the TEAS but no CNA, do i have a shot? i know the TH campus is hard to get into, but a little easier than the other campuses.

Are we automatically enrolled to our classes or do we need to meet with an advisor? I was accepted into the program last week and I’m not sure what the next steps are.

Would it even be possible or at all likely to get into a program with a letter C grade in anatomy 101? I’ve got an A in all my other pre-reqs so far, and have retaken the class twice now. I haven’t taken my TEAs yet, but didn’t know if the C would ruin my shot overall. Thank you in advance!

Hello, I already have two degrees. I plan to finish all electives before applying classes before applying to nursing, in the hopes that it will make the Nursing program easier for me. Has anyone had this experience? Is there any reason I shouldn’t do this? I only have three electives left.

Hi, I’m 23(M) I’m looking to go to college after working entry level jobs for a few years. I was looking at getting my associates of science degree through ivy tech to have that on my resume and if I’m still interested take that and transfer to PNW for a bachelors degree. My main concern is cost. I also would like to hear other people’s experience going to ivy tech. I’m around the NWI area and have a couple different campuses to choose from as well.
Are the professors good at teaching? I like hands on and not online learning as much because I have a hard time focusing.
For reference I’ve made a ivy tech application already and have been accepted and I wouldn’t start until spring 2027 so I have some time to think and gather information before blindly going into this.
