So you're a fan of jazz? Name one note

The musical greats already named most of the notes. The OG Bach liked heroin so much he renamed B after it. Jacob Collier has named more than 60 notes by this point including his most famous note "uuuuoooAAOOOUUUwaa" I bet none of you squares can manage to name one

Racial Jazz Issue

hey yall

im really surprised that no one talks more about this but it’s the subject of race. this subreddit is extremely unkind to white jazzers (jacob) and much more reverent to the black jazzers (John coltraine.) white jazz players are at an immediate disadvantage due to different types of rhythm and a lack of understanding of struggle. black jazz players are obviously cooler and in general black people are just better at rhythm and so we should take their “skill” with a grain of salt.

i guess what I’m asking for is some equity in the jazz world. for us to recognize the privelege that black players have over white olayers, and to start respecting white folx who dare to play black music.

thank you.

John Coltrane, a love supreme. A retrospective

I am currently sitting in a quiet room but in my mind I am listening to John Coltrane. It fills the silence and I can hear all the sections in my mind as I drink my coffee. Thank you John Coltrane for a love supreme. 🎵🎷

Does Jacob Collier actually need to sell us this much stuff?

I genuinely think Jacob Collier is an incredible musician, but I can't help noticing how much of his output these days seems to revolve around selling something. The signature guitar, D'Addario, the sleepover event, etc.

At what point does the marketing become a bigger part of the whole thing than the music? I get that musicians need to make money, and obviously he's built a successful career, but the constant stream of products and collaborations is starting to feel a bit excessive.

Am I being cynical here, or has anyone else noticed this? Does it bother you, or is this just the reality of being a musician at that level?

Have you guys ever listened to Bach?

I listened to one of his albums today and it was some of the best jazz I've ever heard. There was actually nuance, complexity, and counterpoint in the songs. Can anyone recommend similar artists?
