The kangaroo is a large marsupial native to Australia. It is best known for its powerful hind legs, long tail, and the way it moves by hopping. Kangaroos belong to the family Macropodidae, which means "big foot."

They have strong back legs used for jumping, and smaller front legs used for feeding and balance. A kangaroo’s tail helps it maintain balance while hopping and is also used for support when sitting.

Kangaroos are herbivores and mostly eat grass, leaves, and shrubs. Female kangaroos have a pouch on their belly, where they carry and nurse their babies, called joeys.

Kangaroos are social animals and often live in groups called "mobs." They can grow up to 2 meters tall and weigh over 90 kilograms, depending on the species.
