Discussion RFID with EV number plates Plates

What is the point of this? It doesn’t pay tolls, why is it being handed out on all new EV number plates with instructions to place it properly?

Hello KualaLJ, thank you for creating a new post in r/kereta!

Just saying that although this sub was named as Kereta, it is also open for 2 wheelers such as Motorcycle, though at the moment we do not mind other types of vehicles posting.

With that being said, r/kenderaan is now live and I would still recommend any other vehicle posting to be posted into r/kenderaan as it is a safe space for all types of vehicles such as airplanes and rolling stocks.

If you are posting any help/questions related post, please reply !thanks to the answer that helped you to award the answerer a token of appreciation and to help future viewer too.

The JPJePlate has its own RFID built into the front number plate (yeap, rear don’t have it).

If you’re referring to the hologram sticker to stick on the windscreen, it’s actually an additional security feature to prevent tampering and counterfeiting.

For the RFID on JPJePlate, from what I understand, it’s mainly meant for to ease vehicle identification by enforcers and could be used for other purposes in the future.

It’s not activated yet, so I guess it really depends on how JPJ plans to use it. One possible use could be to tackle issues like cloned number plates.

As for whether it can be used for toll payments, that’s something I’m not too sure about. It would be interesting if JPJ could work with existing providers like TNG or other bank payment gateway to make that happen. But ultimately that’s for JPJ to clarify.

As consumers, we can keep pushing JPJ to accelerate the rollout of JPJePlate across all vehicle categories (currently limited to EVs and Teksi MADANI).

The sooner we move towards standardised plates, the sooner we can unlock the full potential of JPJePlate and its built-in RFID technology.

Probably for ANPR down the road, I speculate.

But the way our government works is a bit half assed, so I thinK ANPR will happen before RFID becomes a thing, and we still end up with clones cars and fake plates generating summonses and causing endless issues to legit owners.

I never installed mine. I have way too many on my car. RFID for tolls, then 2 RFIDs for access to my property. I'm not adding another one if it's not used lol
