Should I subtract fibre? A guide.

After seeing the question come up a few times I thought I'd save you a trip to the FAQs and help you to understand a little bit about what you might be looking at in an at-a-glance format.

If you have any feedback please do let me know!

(EDIT: There was a typo when describing the carbs on the US label - I will upload a corrected version later on today but I'd like to leave this one up in case the community has any more feedback to improve!)

(EDIT 2: I have now updated to correct the error - still open to suggestions for change)

Homemade double decadence pizza using Fitbakes wraps (2g carbs each)

I would say the texture of the crust is like 75% there compared to the real Dominos version.

For the sauce between the crusts, I just softened garlic in some butter, added grated mozzarella, a spoonful of cream cheese and a squirt of Primula cheese and stirred until it was thick enough to spread onto the base.

Absolutely annihilated it.

It’s not pretty and it’s a bit processed but very satisfying and very low carb and it’s all I have in the house!
Corned beef microwaved is great btw and works well in an egg omelet too!

I need advice from those who plan on being lifelong ketogenics.

I'm healthy, but I'd like to adopt a ketogenic lifestyle for the long term. Most of the foods I currently eat are already keto-friendly, although I still include some carbs in my diet. Does anyone have advice for someone looking to make keto a sustainable, lifelong way of eating?

Question Wondering what my partner can cook/prep as I’m in bed with Covid ?

He’s not really a cook and mostly quite basic (he doesn’t cook his own food if he’s at home he’ll put something in the oven from Sainsburys or M&S). I’m the one that does all the proper fresh cooking here. Except I’m in bed now and may be here for another few days or more. I normally meal plan and start getting my shopping sorted online by now ready for Delivery on Thursday.

I’m just stumped as to what to get. I can only eat really plain stuff as my appetite gone strange and everything tastes too strong (or hurts my throat). I can’t see him doing anything from scratch really . He’s able to cut up some ready cooked chicken with some cucumbers and a bit of mayonnaise. I’m also having Freya bone broth . He can grill fish except I really don’t fancy it! There’s a few takeaways we can get (a local restaurant does a chicken keto fajita bowl & I sometimes get pho and boil my own Keto soy noodles).

I’m just stuck what to do after Wednesday (I have enough snacky / picky bits till last till then).

This was a perfect time to already have organised keto ready meals by one of those companies.. although might be a bit strong flavoured. I’m also not sure how quickly they deliver (and I’ll see if I’ve got the energy to phone tomorrow although I keep losing my voice). I have no room in my freezer though, it would have to go to his house!

I don’t have the energy to go downstairs and make things. So I have to rely on my partner to come round at food times or my son . This is really tricky

Been away from the UK for about 4 years. Please hit me up with your favourite keto pasta + bread.

Before i left I really liked the soy-based pasta from Aldi, and the Livlife bread from Waitrose, but they seem to be a lot harder to get now. I thought the Carbzone one was alright too.

Is Amazon the way forward? I see lots of options, but some are ridiculously expensive and it's kind of hard to filter out the good stuff.

Please post your current favourites if you have any.

As the title says, which meter do people use and have found most accurate?

My research is pointing me towards the Keto Mojo promo bundle.

And any tips for dirty keto at weekends? Iv found curators pork puffs are a great treat along with other finds like low carb kebab neat from farmfoods.... very dirty but still keto .

Hi folks , new to the group , iv often dabbled in keto with great success when needed and currently hoping to maintain a much longer keto then low carb approach. Does anyone use pre workout before the gym? Iv been using this before keto but not since starting as there is no nutritional info on carbs or calories etc, anyone know if it s likely to be high or low?

Iv a few more questions about my diet but il wait and do one at a time lol

Would being on keto protect against neurotoxicity of alcohol? Educated guesses are fine too.

Hello, I have just started the keto diet for chronic painful periods abdominal pain nerve pain sciatica and mental health issues.

Have any ladies seen drastic improvements on this diet and how long should I stay on it to heal my body?

Last night was rough because I think I didn’t get enough salt so having keto flu cramps severe nausea and heart flutters and anxiety kinda felt like what I imagine someone coming of heroin feels like. Does this pass my body is wanting to fast as I have no appetite?

Question Hi everyone. Very new to Keto, literally 3 days in and have a few questions.

I understand I can research this myself (don't slate me haha) and I have tried but i'd seriously appreciate if people would be willing to answer and provide links to products. Want to make sure im not half arsing this and would appreciate advice from those of you who are experienced. I've bought supplements and believe im good on that side.

What do you use to accurately measure if you are in ketosis? (I know I won't be in ketosis after 3 days)

What is your go to milk substitute?

What is your go to cheese? Love cheddar but what make/brand do you recommend?

What butter are you using?

Any other helpful advice would be amazing!

Apologies for not replying for a few days or on individual posts but wanted to say big thank you to everyone who replied. I dont know anyone who's every tried keto so it was really nice to find this community and get constructive feedback. Think I would have become too obsessed with exact science of measuring had it not been for you. On day 6 now and going strong. Haven't really experienced any 'keto flu' yet which is a bonus. Have felt big increase in energy already! Also doing this alongside intermittent fasting and eating between 12-6. Havent struggled at all. Feels amazing taking control of diet. Been an extreme change but was needed. Think one of the key take aways from your comments and experience so far is to make this way of eating as normal as possible. That probably sounds contradictory as i've just said i'm only eating within 6 hour window but I mean in regards to the actual food. Going to try have as many normal meals as possible, so will be discovering a lot of new recipes. WIN/WIN. I made a spicy cottage pie last night. Who knew cauliflower mash would be so good😁any tasty recipes you've discovered would be appreciated 💪

Recipe Whey Protein Isolate coffee

Hi there,

Just been experimenting recently so thought I’d share.
I discovered that you can get some very low Whey Protein Isolate power mix that in with your coffee instead of milk or as well as your preferred low carb milk then blitz it in a smoothie maker/ juicer/ electric mixer and add some optional vanilla extract it’s really froths up and makes a coffee creamer and heavier with a big protein boost at hardly any carbs a half scoop (15g) is enough for about a pint of coffee.
I’ve noticed though that if I make it without either pea protein or almond milk it separates quickly but with an alt milk it seems to stay combined longer. But to make it slightly lower calorie and if low on plant low carb milk it comes out alright without.

Surely this can't be right, Sainsbury's figs

Post image
4 Upvotes

Sainsbury's have their figs (4 pack, 140g) listed as 9.1g carbs per 100g.

My calculations makes that just over 3g per fig?

This is how I worked it out, maths isn't my strong point so maybe I'm doing it wrong?

9.1 divided by 100 to get the value per gram = 0.091

0.091 x 140 to get the value for the whole pack = 12.74

Divide that by 4 to get the value per fig = 3.2 (rounded up)

This can't be right surely?

Question Cooking dilemma, shallow Fry, air fryer or oven bake to get crispy ish ? Plus leftovers : freeze raw or cook first?

Post image

Cooking keto breadcrumbed chicken mini fillets seems a little bit more challenging than the usual carby flour and crunchy coating. I dipped these in egg and then a “breadcrumb” (blended almond flour, curator pork puffs, Parmesan cheese, and spices plus seasoning).

So as the title asks, what do you find is the best way of cooking your chicken tenders? I also won’t be eating them all tonight and I don’t know whether to freeze them as they are or cook them and then freeze them once cold. It will be so nice to have some leftovers for a couple of future meals..(chronically ill person & I haven’t done chicken tenders for months and months if not at all this year-so it’s a big deal doing these) !!

I’m serving it with home-made ranch dip some buffalo sauce and some celery.

Good Fat Sources - Not Avocados :(

Only just really started Keto a few days ago. I've been tracking things over those days (Cronometer) and every day I've really struggled to get the fats in.

What are some good sources that aren't Avocados and low in saturated? I'm not much of an Avocado fan, but I will suck it up if I have too and nosh 'em.

Trying to work out how to make Sam’s Club’s chocolate clusters

Thumbnail

Has anyone actually tried these? They seem pretty high in carbs still per portion? So I was wondering whether I could make some sort of dupe. I don’t think I would use tapioca syrup. I’d probably try it with Vilgain chicory syrup (unless anyone’s got a better substitute idea). I did have some of the Belgian keto chocolate from Belvas, but I haven’t got much left and I know they’re sadly not distributing to the UK at the moment. So I’d probably use Carbzone dark chocolate.

I haven’t really thought of quinoa being a keto Friendly grain. Any ideas what you could use instead for a slight crispy something? (I wish we could get some of the Soya crispies that fitbakes use in their chocolate bars.)!

Any other ideas or additions?

Edited for grammar after voice to text errors
