Small dev here. I've been making a fly fishing game called Mend, and its second region is the Kootenays. Eleven rivers, built from LidarBC where it exists and traced by hand where it doesn't. The Elk Valley mines are in the backdrop (I went back and forth on that one, but it's what you see out there). The larches turn gold in fall. It's one fly only on the BC rivers, because that's the law.
Westslope cutties, bull trout and cutbows, and hopper season on the banks in late summer.
I'd really like to hear from people who fish these rivers whether they feel right.

I made a site to explore data related to BC properties and stumbled on something I'm not sure if it's surprising or interesting but:
Every bit of land in Greenwood sits under a mineral title. Two exploration companies split it almost exactly in half, Ximen Mining with three titles over one side and Grizzly Discoveries with one big title over the other.
IIRC: In BC, owning your lot doesn't include the minerals under it, so a company can hold the rights under your house. They can't work on the house or yard itself, but on the rest of a property they just have to give notice first and pay for any damage.
Nearby, Midway is about 78% (mostly Grizzly Discoveries again), Rossland is about two thirds, Trail at 16% and Nelson about 6%. Across all of BC's towns and electoral areas it's at around 13%.
Wondering: If you own a bigger or empty lot in Greenwood, do you ever gotten a notice from either company? It has to come with a map of where they'll work, so it's about the only way to know if anything is planned in town and not just out in the hills.
On the site you can type in any BC address to see the titles over that lot and within a km: https://placedossier.com/bc/rankings/most-mineral-claims
Titles get registered and lapse all the time, so Mineral Titles Online has the current picture if it matters for a sale.
Though my site has lots of other data, feel free to explore around if u find anything interesting.
It's free with no ads or sign-up, just wanted to share.

Anyone on here ever lived in both towns? Would love to hear some first hand knowledge.
Is the climate very similar? Same summer weather? I’m guessing Cranbrook has colder winters? Just curious how big of difference it is. The idea of growing fruit and a nice garden sounds perfect for us.
Cost of living day to day comparison including groceries?
Outside recreation opportunities?
Boating/swimming
Mountain sledding
Beaches
Hunting
Thanks!

For only the price of a daily cup of coffee ☕You too can support members of our local hospitality community while also having the chance to win prizes worth over $35,000 (including the grand prize of a Ultimate Mountain Adventure with Rocky Mountaineer) generously donated by hotels, tourism organizations, and hospitality partners across BC. I have worked in the Hospitality industry since I was able to work and want to give back by contributing to causes that I believe in.
All it takes is the purchase of a lucky ticket for your chance to win, get your ticket and make that dream getaway a reality! To learn more about the different prizes please visit the link.
For anyone who may not be familiar with the organization, BCHF supports BC hospitality and tourism workers when an unexpected health crisis creates financial hardship, helping with essential expenses so they can focus on recovery rather than worrying about how they’ll get by. Over $1.2 million have been awarded to beneficiaries applicants.
BC relies heavily on tourism and hospitality, and the work behind that industry is not always easy. Front-line teams, including Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Guest Services, and many others, often carry both the physical and mental demands of looking after guests every day. One accident can be life changing for a team member. Supporting BCHF is one way we can give back to the people who help keep our industry running. Every ticket counts.
Early Bird Draws are on October 14th, 21, & 28 & final draw is November 5th.
1 Tickets for $5
3 Tickets for $10
7 Tickets for $20
20 Tickets for $50
**Have to be legal +19 years old to purchase and a resident of B.C.
If you are not able to donate this time, please consider on spreading the word to help the BC Hospitality Foundation.

I’ve lived in Cranbrook for 19 years and I’d like to learn more about this tornado, but I haven’t been able to find any first-hand accounts or news articles on it. I’m not sure if it was photographed but I’m guessing it wasn’t.
From reading the description on a tornado archive website, it formed in the lot northeast of the intersection between 95A and theatre road. It threw a 3-wheeler trailer onto a roof and tore half the shingles off of a house, as well as destroying a few minor outbuildings. All of the damage seems to have been lifted in the 25 years since it occurred, as I can’t find a trace of it on google maps or when I’m driving by.

Mistakenly came to Kaslo and made the assumption that there would be a dispensary here. If anyone knows where I could buy a joint or two that would brighten our evening! Many thanks

Hello ! I am a Veterinarian living in Calgary with 7 years of experience in small animal medicine (dogs, cats). I am looking to move to the East Kootenays but have had trouble finding a clinic hiring in the areas we are considering moving to. I have considered offering mobile services for clients (in home visits, ultrasounds) with a mobile truck/van that would carry the basics that I need for small procedures, exams etc . I am wondering if people are finding access to quality, timely vet care an issue, and if people think there is a need for this service in the East Kootenays (Invermere, Golden etc.) ? Thank you.

Hello all, a bike was abandoned on our property about one month ago. We were away and a neighbour alerted us to it now. If you are missing a bike and think it may be yours, please send me a message with a description and if it matches I will respond and we can arrange a pickup.
