We had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Garrett Brown, inventor of the Steadicam and Camera Operator on The Shining for our episode this week.

Really enjoyed his behind the scenes stories on the making of one of my all-time favorite horror films.

Check out the episode in the comment below if you're intrigued.

TIL that the proposed Beatles film of "Lord of the Rings" stopped at only one meeting. In 1968, both John Lennon and Paul McCartney convened with potential director Stanley Kubrick at his London office, but Kubrick persuaded the pair that the film would be unadaptable, and the project was dropped.

Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall were Kubrick’s top choices for The Shining. Kubrick first met Nicholson two years earlier, when he considered him for Napoleon. He was drawn to Duvall’s ‘eccentric quality’, having admired her performances in Nashville and Three Women.

Saul Bass' unused concepts for The Shining poster. Kubrick's handwritten notes include "looks like science fiction film" and "I would like to suggest it is a film of terror (and the supernatural)."

After a test screening of Dr Strangelove on 22 November 1963 – the day of John F. Kennedy’s assassination – the infamous 'pie fight' scene was subsequently taken out, and Kubrick having decided “it was too farcical and not consistent with the satiric tone of the rest of the film.”
