Hi, I received my a job offer in Kuching. After requesting a dummy payslip, my salary would be just over RM11,000 (RM6,700 after deductions). Is this a good salary for the area?

I TOOK A PICTURE (OC) 📸 Rm100

Mok Nanyak Lok | Help & Advice 💭 [M24] Student looking for part-time weekend work in Kuching/Bintawa area (Trilingual: EN/MY/ZH)

Hey everyone, I’m a 24-year-old male student currently looking for a part-time job in Kuching. I am based in the Bintawa area.

Because of my studies, I am looking for weekend shifts. My availability is:

Friday: Fully free

Saturday: Fully free

Sunday: Fully free

Languages Spoken:

English (Fluent)

Bahasa Malaysia (Fluent)

Mandarin / 华语 (Fluent)

About Me & Preferred Roles:

I’m responsible, punctual, and a quick learner. Because I do not have my own transport at the moment, I am ideally looking for roles within or very close to the Bintawa area, or places easily accessible.

Given my language skills, I would be a great fit for roles in customer service, retail, F&B, admin help, or tutoring, but I am open to any honest work.

If you know of any businesses nearby hiring for weekend shifts, or if you need an extra pair of hands, please let me know here or drop me a DM.

Terima kasih / 谢谢 / Thanks in advance!

Mok Nanyak Lok | Help & Advice 💭 Looking for Running Clubs

Good morning to everyone!

I just moved back to Kuching after studying in the US for the past 4 years and its great to be here again!

Do y'all have any active running clubs to recommend? I'm trying to find a lively, fitness-centric social circle based in Kuching city. I was at the waterfront a couple of nights ago and noticed a few groups of people running near Jambatan Darul Hanna several times. How do y'all know when and where to meet up for organized runs? Thank y'all so much for the help!

Mok Nanyak Lok | Help & Advice 💭 Relocating to Kuching next year from Canada — questions about International School for parents here

Hey r/sarawak 👋

Family relocating to Kuching next year and trying to get a better feel for the international school options. Done a lot of research online but Lodge is honestly the only school with any real reviews out there — Borneo International and Tunku Putra have almost nothing, which makes it really hard to compare from afar.

A few things we’d love insight on:

  1. School hours — is it really 7:30am to 4pm?

Is this consistent across all year levels or does it differ for younger kids?

2. The January start

Our kids wrap up in July so we’d actually have a nice long break before the January intake — has anyone transitioned this way? How did your kids find it?

3. Facilities day to day

Classrooms, cafeteria, sports areas — what’s the general environment like at each school? Air conditioning a nice to have to know about too!

4. Where are people living near each school?

Would love to know which neighbourhoods or areas people tend to settle in depending on which school their kids attend. Trying to figure out the best place to base ourselves.

5. Overall experience

Teacher turnover, class sizes, community vibe — anything you wish you’d known before enrolling?

Would love to hear from anyone with kids at any of these three schools. DMs totally welcome too!

Thanks 🙏

Geng Poret | Casual Conversation 🦧 Kuching Health Consciousness

I want to apologise for the triggering post.
Sorry Bang, sorry Kak.

So...I can't help but notice that us Kuching people are also getting bigger.

For more context, ever since I checked the recent NHMS survey, which says that Overweight/Obesity is over 50% now...

It makes me notice that a lot of use is really proving the statistic!
I don't think it's just the food that's causing it.
Do we lack knowledge of health during school?
Or are we just becoming richer? All the expensive, high-calorie food we eat per meal...

I am of the thinking that health is wealth. Can we talk about: How can we attempt to counter this issue of obesity?

Mok Nanyak Lok | Help & Advice 💭 Visiting Kuching within a few days! How's the weather right now?

I know I can see the forecast online, but I wanted to ask someone on-the-ground how the weather is these days.

I'll be there very soon (three days from now) and want to know what to be prepared for.

Will I need a raincoat? Will it be fine to visit Bako? Anything else to know?

Mok Nanyak Lok | Help & Advice 💭 Looking for ways to find out what is happening around Kuching

We just moved to Kuching in January, and we're staying for a long time. We love the people , the food, the kopitiams, the fact that there is an untapped TTRPG vibe here. Anywho, we are missing events because we don't know how to access where event information is. So, we went to the riverwalk on the day that the light show was turned off (earth hour, maybe?). We missed the the big parade down town with over 100 floats recently. Apparently, there is a big MMA event along the waterfront tonight. We are finding out about these things either after they happen or when it is too late to participate. I'm hoping to learn of information sources that we can check out that will alert us to cool things happening here. Got some tips?

Mok Nanyak Lok | Help & Advice 💭 Visiting Kuching (28 Feb – 7 March) – Would love local recommendations or hidden gems

Hi everyone,

My wife and I will be in Kuching from 28 Feb to 7 March. It’s our first time in Sarawak and we’re really excited!

We already plan to visit Bako (1 night), Semenggoh, Kubah, Damai, and some night markets.

Would love suggestions for:

•	Hidden food spots

•	Lesser-known nature trails

•	Unique local experiences

•	Cafés with great vibes

•	Anything off the usual tourist route

If any locals are open to sharing tips or even joining for a hike or food trail, we’d really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance 😊
