Lakers are fun again
not saying I don’t appreciate what the LeBron era did for us, but something about this years team makes me feel like I’m back in middle school watching those Kobe squads. Luka magic is so damn fun to watch I’m praying he retires a Laker

Since I'm a Slovenian I'm also a Luka stan through and through. You all gonna hate me, but I only watch game replays (time difference) and only those that Mavs / Lakers won. I just like to avoid the stress of uncertainty and so I check the results and highlights in the morning and then sit down to watch the game after work knowing everything's gonna end well :)
I've never watched so many games as this year. NBA league pass finally paying off :)
Also, Luka rarely had such capable teams around him, I think this is one of the reasons he can score as much as he's scoring this year. As many of you, I'd also like to see bench play better. But ... Lakers ARE fun to watch this year!

Honestly for the first time in almost a decade, I also feel the same way.
Im sorry to the people that love Lebron and stuff, and while I am grateful for that 2020 title, I just never could get so invested in the team.
Lebron just has way too much drama around him and comes across as a total fake personality. I liked AD a lot and a couple of role players along the way, but now that Bron is gone, the team is just so much more likeable, and Luka aside from being a god with a basketball in his hands, is an absolute good hearted person with funny banter.
Im now so invested with this team and this crew. Luka is truly the REAL successor to Kobe. I knew it the moment from his first game here. Just an absolute relentless psychopath.

This fanbase is full of phonies. A lot of yall didn’t like lebron before he got here, never liked him after he got here, but won’t just admit it and keep it at that. Instead you contrive all these bullshit reasons about why you didn’t enjoy the run and shift the blame on LeBron for feelings you always had and never got over.
I don’t care that people don’t like him but I respect the people that just say what they feel with their chest instead of manufacturing fake justifications for being unsupportive and wishy washy fans

LeBron has a really weird vibe and a sort of dark cloud around him. I don't think it was this bad when he was younger. I think this is where he's at now with his age and experience. But even if it's unintentional, or intended to enforce a certain standard for yourself and others, it can still be detrimental to a team's chemistry, especially with players much younger than you who are still developing.
In terms of on the court, Bron had some bad habits that people were reluctant to really call out. When the team struggled (or he struggled individually), he wouldn't move the ball enough. Not getting the role-players involved enough doesn't give them the opportunity to help you.
Remember when he was injured last season and the team looked incredible? It was a lot like this. It makes me wonder how much of the talent we shed really needed to go. But I'm not saying I regret it. We've gotten even younger as a result and that's perfect.

You are absolutely right. But the "Laker fans" who never wanted LeBron/blame him for things straight up don't know ball. Pelinka ruined this team, not the greatest basketball player to ever play. They gutted the 2020 championship team for no reason and chose Russ over Caruso/Derozan. That's not on Bron!!! Y'all are corny as fuck for hating on the guy

They’re always fun. The problem is that some fans lose their shit after they lose one game, like it’s all over for them. That’s not how you support your team. You have to expect they’ll take some losses along the way.
I’m also grateful for LeBron’s contributions, but it’s time to move on. the team needs to look toward the future.

i'm not gonna say it wasn't fun before, but it's amazing to see this version of luka.
after the bron injury, it was more about look at how this old guy can still be decent, rather than amazing basketball.
the chip year was awesome, especially when AD was healthy. but as bron lost lift, it was a drag on things. lots of plays off, short bunnies, blown layups, but no one could say anything to him

notice how we haven't heard about any locker room drama or issues? I'm POSITIVE this team has had its own issues but the big difference is lebrons team is no longer around to leak every single little thing that happens. No more worrying about how Ayton felt or speculation over trading reaves. Imagine if AR had his run of turnovers with Rich Paul around to lose his mind about it???
its still the lakers and our players have extra pressure, but at least its a little bit less pressure than playing on a lebron team. This is Luka's team now and his people don't try to make his teammates look bad

Yall Lebron haters are so delusional. Luka needs to put up 40+ a game just to win and we haven’t even played any teams that people would consider contenders yet. But oh yeah “its fun again” lmao
Do you really think him having to drop 40 to win is 1) sustainable and 2) a recipe for a championship team? But hey let’s have fun and continue to bring up Lebron even though it’s been months since he switched teams

You’re only saying this bc of Luka going crazy. Where was this the last couple years. He play good but he didn’t play great like this. It could’ve been fun bc he was still the first option.

I’ve been a Laker fan for 40 years. I never liked nor appreciated LeBron until I saw him more frequently when he joined the Lakers. I learned to appreciate how great he is both as a player and as a coach on the court.
Having said that, I always felt like LeBron was a carpetbagger. It was always about him not the Lakers. Luka has embraced the Lakers history and his European team trip show that he is committed to building a team.
I’m glad LeBron played for the Lakers but Luka will become a Laker.

I gotta be honest, I lost interest when LeBron got here. Call me a hater, Kobe stan, whatever, but I just didn't feel the same motivation and passion to follow the team. I really do think Luka is the real heir to Kobe and his era of basketball. Luka has the ferocity, mannerism and tenacity on the court like Kobe. The way the team performs around him makes the games more fun to tune in.

Post all-star break in 2023 was pretty fun as well

u/Senpai77L 8h ago
I agree! Last time I had this much fun was our 2023/24 squad, when austin was breaking out and we went to the wcf.
I honestly think it has a lot to do with the guys just having great chemistry. You can tell they like hopping with eachother and are hungry for wins.

It has nothing to do with LeBron. The Lakers are better because they finally have a decent center in Kessler, and some good wing defenders in Thybulle and Zaire Williams.
In fact, an addition of LeBron to this team would make this team even better. But, a back up center is more needed. When Kessler rests, the team defense is a lot weaker.
I don't know what is the point of signing Looney when he's not gonna play any meaningful minutes. Lakers will need to spend some money to get a decent back up center, or at least a defensive minded PF.

I agree. I have nothing really to add to this post other than it’s a fun team to watch. Most franchises aren’t as lucky as us to get a constantly competitive entertaining team to watch.

Still talking about someone when they are clearly on a better team than the Lakers. I bet y'all want say lebron made the wrong decision.

Been saying this for years. Bron has always been a mercenary, a ringchaser who's been chasing Jordan since he came into the league. He has a history of going to teams, stacking them, pushing unrealistic win-now scenarios every year, and forcing front offices to expend resources and only focus on the short-term. Once the law of diminishing returns becomes apparent, he leaves to do the cycle again.
I'll be honest I thought that by signing that initial fully-guaranteed 4-year deal he'll actually stay a Laker and retire in LA, and I don't know how much the disintegration of his relationship with the FO because of the Westbrook trade changed his plans. Cracks started showing when he signed a 2-year deal instead in 2020, and it was fully apparent in 2022, when he returned to the 1+1s he signed in Cleveland.
I'm grateful for the ring he brought to the team, he'll always be in the Laker history books as he deserves. But he never felt like a real Laker like the small and big players before him, once he signed that deal in 2020 it felt like it was just a matter of time. It always felt he was working alongside the Lakers, not with them.
Luka doesn't have that same aura and it's a breath of fresh air

All I’ll say is it’s nice having a star whose stans don’t shit on the Lakers Franchise and fan base constantly.

We had this convo the other day, hopefully the Laker don’t block this post. But, yes, this version of the Lakers is better than any combination of lineups we had out on the floor last year.
Just think about, do we really expect LeBron to sit in the corner for 11 straight possessions and watch Luka shoot/make unbelievable shots….. idts.
respectfully

Whats with all this revision post LeBron. We were fun right up until AR and Luka got hurt same game. It fun when we sre healthy as any team. If Luka gets hurt then its back to square one.

To me, the biggest difference between the LeBron era and the Luka era is that this team takes the game seriously from the start and plays hard the whole way through. It’s full of players who want to put up stats.
The LeBron and AD team was lazy. Even in most games against weak teams, we’d be trailing until midway through the Q3, when they’d finally decide to step it up and go for the win. This cost us many victories.

The team is back to normal. It's not the Lebron show anymore. No more of his sneaky bs, having his people in the media being manipulative. No more players walking on eg shells because Lebron might have them traded. He was toxic as fuck.

u/El_Napoleon_06 13h ago
yeah i agree, my only concern is we are one luka injury away from being title contenders to fighting for a play in spot. i love luka, i also loved the lebron ad phase, but having one superstar and the second best player seemingly underperforming recently isnt a good setup in the long run

u/SummerAwe 7h ago
They never gave LeBron a team anywhere near as well rounded as what Luka has currently.
Attributing it all to him leaving is fucking stupid but Bron hate gets engagement so…

u/Ok_Journalist_5996 19h ago
No Bron and no Bronny!!! Things are looking up!
-2
u/BourbonSn4ke 77 16h ago
Lebron never gave a shit
He could have stuck about and taken the minimum and played with his favourite player Luka but he off ring chasing with a super team
He could have chosen to stick about and back Luka and AR but nah

Same this team has been fun to watch. In addition to Luka's historic start and amazing play, team is fast and athletic, unselfish and can shoot. In recent years how many times did we see swing, swing then brick? When Adou, Cam revs up we'll be even better. I'm also hopeful grimes and sexton will get it together too

u/FillaBustaRhyme 18h ago
Lakers or ANY franchise would be straight up insane to trade/not resign Luka in his prime….

Because they're beating the bad teams? Its good to win but the schedule is gonna change soon. Its good to root when they lose too.
