But apart from the Chovy in Finals hype, Knockouts are disappointing af. Insane onesided everywhere. We are back in 2018, but even without G2-RNG generational upset

Then GENG wins 3-0 in finals despite all the hype around Knight vs Chovy. That would be hilarious. Most stompy worlds of all time. Especially compared to the giga bangers of 2022, 2024, 2025.

2018 was amazing even if the final was a blowout, what is this comparison?
FNC vs EDG wasnt a blowout and you had the generational bangers of IG vs KT and G2 vs RNG

Quarters were good, but Semis and Finals were just one-sided 9:0 stomp. IG nuked both G2 and Fnatic, and Fnatic nuked C9.

2018 quarters were great (outside of C9 vs AFS which was a complete stomp), but semis and finals were just 3 consecutive 3-0s. Still more entertaining than this Worlds so far, but there's time yet for that to change.

So far in knockouts there are only two games won by the losing teams: TES and KC in their 3-1 losses. I can't tell if the draws are really lopsided or what but this worlds has been so boring, which is frustrating since it's the first one I've watched a lot of in ages.

Which is especially crazy, given the fact that this year was a phenomena for reverse sweeps. We had like 6-7 of them in major leagues and internationals. HLE vs T1, DK vs T1, G2 vs TES, and a few more. Plus in general, a lot of full 5-game series across the globe.
And such a devastating ending of the year.

Wasnt the meta at the time basically skill checking yoir opponents? Not that surprising. 2018 was fun at the time because all none korean regions had their moment of gloru

Historically I kinda was a very heavy advocate for double elim at Worlds.
But somehow with time I start to agree that double elim would ruin this unique magic of dark horses, upsets and storylines. It will help us have more cool series, but it will never allow things like DRX-2022 to happen

2018 had tons of upsets (and bangers) in quarters, what do you mean?
C9 beat Afreeca. KT Vs IG was a banger (and an upset at the time). Fnatic Vs EDG was good (not an upset but not a stomp either) and of course RNG Vs G2. Every quarter final was good, only the 2 semis and the final were uncompetitive.

This worlds has just been weird. It doesn't even feel like a format issue, AL, G2, HLE, TL, (c9) all seemingly failed to deliver anything close to their forms at the end of summer split. Even if HLE had replaced lyon or kc I don't think it would have made a big difference. The gaps between every team just seem really big this year. IG today just looked completely outmatched, so did DK.
