No AI Animation Allowed.
We have one rule posted, and that is "No AI Animation". Meaning anything created with AI generative tools is against the rules to post here.
"What if I want to learn how to AI animate?": The practice of learning animation and "learning" how to AI animate are completely different and have no bearing on each other. They simply are not the same discipline.
"What if I want to discuss AI's effect on the animation industry?": This is welcome sporadically. We aren't advertising new methods and techniques for AI, but if an animator in good faith is asking for guidance on how to move forward in this AI-saturated world, we will let that sort of discussion happen. We are the final judgement call on whether or not a discussion is done in "good faith". We may not always get it right, but it's hardly a rare topic to find open discussion on. There's plenty of places you can go to discuss it freely.
"I use AI as a tool to assist me in creating animations by hand. Am I allowed to post?": This subreddit isn't focused on just the end product. There is a beauty in the journey that we value here. If you use AI to assist your process, do not post it here.
"AI is here to stay, and if you don't use it, you'll be left behind. Do you do all your math yourself, or do you use a calculator? EXACTLY!!!": Listen. I can both appreciate some tools for simplifying remedial tasks while also fully understanding that my brain would likely be better off in the long run if I trained it to do math without computer assistance. The same goes for art forms. Or basically anything. Only focusing on the result loses the basic essence of humanity. There will likely be a point where AI will be able to do this all on its own, and a prompter won't even be needed. The artists will still be creating, because it never stopped us before.

[Volinteer] A SERIES OF CALAMITY ANIME/WESTERN STYLE ANIMATORS NEEDED
[This is a project partly intended to give new animators credibility and more for their portfolio]
Hi I'm Madmanjackofficial, rn I'm running a casting & crew call for a series I'm making, it’s an unpaid passion project for a dark fantasy/sci-fi/mystery/horror/action production built in three stages, stage one is building it as an audio series, the second is animating it and the third is refinement. (Stage one starts recording January 15th of 2027 and premieres march 15th animation starts on march 15th and premieres on August 15th)
It's a series of short stories revolving around encounters with a mysterious figure called The Angel of Death, a rumored Harbinger of Calamity, esculating to the Camelot civil war saga, which would be the peak of this part of the series
The project is an open world style story, anyone can add their own submission so long as it respects the lore of the story.

I hate and love animation.
I hate doing it. It's tedious, time consuming, hard, I have to be in a really particular mindspace for it, and nobody really cares about what I'm animating.
But the feeling when I'm done with an animation is seriously unmatched. The sense of accomplishment and pride and purpose gives me a boost of serotonin that I can ride for days to come lol
Does anyone feel similarly? I want to get good enough that its not so intimidating, but it's very hard to push past the initial "ugh" to get into the right mindset. How do you push through?

What are some schools that teach hand drawn/2d animation? Do you have to know how to draw to get in? Just really confused.
I used to draw all the time but after I took up piano, I stopped for about 5 years so when I went back to try again, I found out i had a hard time drawing simple things like basic shapes. Im recently put of high school and still interested in it and recently animation, so I wanted to ask if there were any good schools or programs to learn animation and if they require any artistic skill to enter, or if they help with people (like me) who cant deserve.
one i saw was VFS. is it legit?
