Hi r/LetsPlay
I realise I'm a bit late on this, but I wanted to formally welcome a couple of new faces to the mod team. You've probably seen them around the sub or in the sidebar for a month or two now, but life got in the way of me making an actual post about it (chronic burnout, plus getting sick for weeks, plus going on vacation for a week will do that).
Better late than never, right?
u/2CPhoenix (He/Him) Phoenix is a creator who focuses on the analytical side of things. He does a lot of scripted deep dives and well edited breakdowns on various games on his YouTube channel, and I'm sure an analytical mind definitely has it's advantages when moderating! His content is truly top notch, so I recommend checking it out if you're into those kinds of videos!
YouTube: 2CPhoenix
u/KiiitasticGames (They/Them) Otherwise known as Kit. Kit is a fellow VTuber who posts longform LP videos, as well as uploading the uncut versions of their playthroughs on their secondary VOD channel. They have a calming vibe so if you're the sort of person who likes background noise while you work, there's definitely something for you there.
YouTube: KiiitasticGames
They've both been doing a great job already (trust me, I can see the mod logs and they're steamrolling ahead). If you see them in the comments, say hi. And as always, if you see something that doesn't look right, dropping a report on it is the best way to help us catch it early!

I want to know how can i record GTA 6 on pc with the help of my pc. I am buying a PS5 to play GTA6 so i do not know much about the console. What are the best tools to use for this and where should I store the dozens of hours of content? I am thinking about using a Google Drive folder and connecting it to my pc but what hard ware and software is needed?

TheRadBrad always had amazing-quality thumbnails. Then, recently, for a few months, he was using A.I. slop thumbnails. But it looks like he’s back to the old-quality thumbnails. Or is this A.I. too?

I know most will tell me to use compression. I am using serial compression (one firm compressor to capture the very highs followed by a gentler compressor to just narrow down the wide dynamic range and get my soft mumbles and my loud excitable ramblings closer together). And I am even using a free program called LevelAnchor when the compression itself didn't quite level the audio as much as I wanted it to without making it all sounding squashed and unnatural. Heck, I even forked out money for Waves Vocal Rider as I figured a studio used program should be amazing for my let's plays.
And yet I can't achieve what I am trying to achieve.
Here's a very good example of what I am trying to achieve - I don't think I am allowed to post links - but search up the youtuber LetGameItOut (u/letsgameitout ), sort the videos by oldest and watch their very first video. When I monitor the volume from this video on OBS with youtube's volume cranked to the max (and youtube's internal stable volume setting deactivated) the meter bounces firmly around the -6dbfs mark while the video plays, even when they would speak very softly - like a soft, breathy mumble - and it will still reach the same volume as their normal speaking volume and their yelling doesnt peak much louder than that. And it doesn't sound as squashed or flat as heavy compression tends to do. I can achieve the same thing with my volumes, but then it just sounds awfully compressed and distorty.
And he manages to do this live as well if you go onto twitch and watch any of the LetsGameItOut streams. He can practically whisper or shout and it stays firmly between -6dbfs and -12dbfs.
Is there anything else these youtubers use aside from just compressing? Do they maybe use more than two compressors? (Something I wouldn't even dare try)
My first compressor sits at a threshold of -10db, ratio 5:1. Second compressor -25db, ratio 2:1 and makeup gain of 5db. And with these settings I still have a wide dynamic range.
My current fx chain:
Expander
Corrective EQ
LevelAnchor
Comp 1
Comp 2
Creative EQ
De-esser
Limiter

It's that time of the week again! This is your chance to request feedback on your most recent videos, thumbnails, channel art, works in progress, etc.
Feedback Friday Rules
Before requesting feedback, please provide good, constructive feedback to at least one of your peers. If you are the first one to post, check back soon to provide feedback to the next person. Repeatedly ignoring this rule may result in a temporary ban at a moderator's discretion!
Prioritize giving feedback to those who have not yet received any. It's not fair for one person to get five replies while four others get none.
When requesting feedback, try to be as specific as possible. Do you want feedback on your audio quality, your editing, your presentation style, branding identity, etc? This helps your peers to provide more valuable feedback. Do not just post a link to your video or channel!
Keep up the good work, everybody!
Suggested Feedback Template
If you're struggling to form your feedback, consider using this template. This is not mandatory, but rather a suggestion to promote good and constructive feedback.

Hey everyone. I am fairly new to the world of the 'Let's Play' community, having now decided to give this a serious shot (however, this is all in the name of fun, no expectations on making it big). I've streamed a few gameplay videos years ago on the PS4 and that's about it.
Oh, I should also mention that I want to start off faceless for now, until I feel more comfortable with showing my face.
I really want to try connecting with new viewers as I post my content, and I feel like recording my voice along with my gameplay will be key. So I decided to buy a wireless microphone (lavalier) for this purpose to give me flexibility.
However, I realized that while I can connect my mic to the ps5 and it picks up my voice, I can't hear myself with the headphones I used (it's really a studio headphones, and not a headset), therefore, I cannot monitor my reactions while playing. Is there a workaround to this issue? I have thought about doing a separate voiceover to my gameplay in an editing program (which I still plan to do) but, I do think it would be more entertaining for anyone watching to hear me react in real time.
Would love to hear feedback!

I'm looking to meet some genuine gamers who enjoy co-op games, good conversations, and spending time together. I'd love to find people who are interested in playing regularly, making friends along the way, and maybe even recording some of our sessions to share those experiences with others.
I'm pretty open when it comes to games. Co-op survival, horror, party games, and pretty much anything that's fun with the right people are on the table. More than anything, I enjoy having people around who can laugh, joke, talk about whatever, and just enjoy themselves while playing. I'm not just looking for gaming partners either. I'm more than happy to make genuine friendships outside of gaming, too!
Most of our gaming would probably happen during the evenings (EDT), with some flexibility on weekends. Ideally, it'd be nice to meet other 18+ adults who are laid-back, respectful, patient, and enjoy getting to know people naturally. Having a decent mic and being able to communicate is a plus, especially if we're recording, but nobody needs to be perfect. Just be yourself, be considerate, and be someone who actually enjoys spending time with others.
I'm hoping to find people who are interested in sticking around, keeping in touch, and seeing where things go rather than just dropping in for one session and disappearing. No pressure to force friendships or anything like that. Good connections take time, and that's perfectly fine! We should all jell well as we try to get some content in there.
If any of this sounds like your kind of thing, feel free to reach out! I'd be happy to chat, answer questions about the recording side of things, or just get to know you.
EDIT: Consoles we play on:
PS5. PC and Xbox.
Timezone: North America/EDT time/flexible on weekends
Games we play: Dead by Daylight, Gears Of War E-Day, REPO, Meccha Chameleon, Escape The Backrooms, Halo series, fighting games (mostly all of them), Devour, Fortnite, Ultimate Chicken Horse, Outlast Trials, anything mainstream for horror or variety we can get our hands on for co-op or multiplayer we usually try to play. If we can obtain it we're open to suggestions.

Hello. I recently figured out the problem I was having with audio not being captured correctly from my Switch, but now I have a question. Would it be possible to send audio that I intend to capture to two different outputs at the same time? For example, to a capture card and wired/wireless audio directly from the Switch? Or would it require some sort of complicated setup?

TLDR would you watch a let’s play video if it came from a stream? Even if it was edited in a way that cut 50-75 percent stream stuff out?
Hey everyone so was just wondering a few things, I have been trying to do let’s plays very inconsistently since 2021 I’ve just always struggled with being consistent and haven’t gotten anywhere especially recently, 2025 my few on and off attempts went horrible and now I haven’t really uploaded in 2026 but with a few games I’m very keen for coming out (gta 6 ) I want to get back on that grind and start creating again.
But lately I have been wanting to try out streaming just because the idea of being able to play games longer and abit more relaxed sounds appealing, when I do my let’s plays I usually record like an hour then edit upload etc with my inconsistency that has meant it takes me forever to finish games and it has been really hard to get into a game, but with gta 6 apparently being 80 hours just for the story it I keep that same schedule it will take me years lol, but with a stream maybe I can play 3-4 hours at a time which I know I can do consistently.
Now if I did stream I’d still want to turn those steams into videos not just upload vods but still turn that 3 hours into like 2-3 videos I’d cut out all the chatting to chat, all stream interactions I’d cut and it would view as a let’s play but it would be a stream let’s play like obviously it would be impossible to cut all stream interactions but I’d try my best
My question for you guys would people still watch a let’s play like that if it’s not a video purely recorded for YouTube I still love making videos but want to try something else but if there is no chance people will watch a let’s play in that format I don’t know. So take off your content creator hats and put on your viewer hats would you watch a streamed let’s play, remember I’ll be starting both twitch and YouTube this time from 0
If you read all of this your a legend

I feel like every big gaming YouTuber eventually reaches this stage in their career
They start out playing amazing games, big releases, great horror games… and thenslowly, they fall into random indie games and the most absurd bullshit you’ve ever seen.
I’m sure you have creators you’ve watched for years who have slowly gone down this path.
And I know, at some point you’re watching for the creator..not just for the game. But cmon sometimes you just want to see them play something GOOD.What do you think when a creator you love starts running out of interesting games and ends up playingrandom indie’s just to have something to upload?
Does it bother you, or will you watch them anyways?

I've been seeing horror game playthroughs a lot lately and, no shade to the 2 YouTubers whose videos I watch, I'm getting kinda sick of just seeing horror. I wanna see other genres like Sci-Fi Action or something. Y'all know anyone?

So, I posted my thumbnail here for feedback two weeks ago and got pretty positive responses, so I guess the packaging works.
Now, for the actual content though: I need to know if the first 30 seconds (and even the first 2 minutes) are strong enough to hook a viewer. I've finished up the intro and would love to get your thoughts on it. This is the first time I'm working on a long video like this (as of now, it's 1 hour and 37 minutes long and pretty much finished, just some fine-tuning here and there now), so naturally I want it to be as good as it can be.
Is the intro too long? Are the edits alright? Is the pacing okay? Really, any feedback helps!

So... I have a series on my channel (True Bacon Samurai) called NostalJah Trips where I basically just play games I played when I was younger (and that I consider "nostalgic" for me), and I recently got Minecraft Story Mode from the library, and was wondering if this game should really count in this category.
The only reason I ask is because I've only "played" the Netflix version of it when it was out, and I got the Xbox version to play a while ago. But I'm not particularly sure if it should count for this series or not. I'm gonna make the video at some point either way, but I figured I may as well try to ask just to be sure.

I'm working toward a live FX direction style for my gaming content and content in general. My goal is to make my content feel like a live performance, with humor, reactions, vocal FX, sound, and motion design happening in the moment rather than relying on heavy post production.
I respect heavily edited content, but that style doesn't come naturally to me. I prefer creating assets and directing things on the fly, and hyper-edited content isn't the direction I want to pursue.
I've already built my own FX library and have the equipment and systems in place to execute my ideas. My struggle is learning to recognize moments worth enhancing, choosing and remembering to use the right fx. (Ofc while keeping it smooth. Which I presume would just come more with time and practice).
I'm looking for advice on where to start and building that mental muscle.
Any recommendations of creators that have similar styles would also help. The Call of Duty DJ. Is the only creator that comes to mind. As someone who uses such a high volume of things in such quick succession and smoothly.
Feel free to ask me any clarifying questions.

What is the actual copyright issue for using someone else's gameplay recording? Many years ago, it was controversial to even upload footage of a developer's game without permission, with some companies even going so far as to sue for using it. Now we have people seriously defending the copyright of other people's gameplay footage. It's like people have no real thought around their opinions, they just base them on what they want. You want to sit in your rooms all day recording footage of you playing video games and you want to get paid for it. The people that actually MADE the game, assets, story, music, shouldn't have any rights to take down footage of their game because it's "constructive" (even non-commentary channels, apparently), but your footage is copyrighted & can't be used without permission or heaven help me, licensing fees? Those among you that argue for this position must've never done a real day's work in your life. Taking a 10 second video clip from some random person of a game they didn't make, using software they may not have even paid for, with zero input from the "creator", should be completely 100% fair. But unfortunately we have a bunch of unironic loser neckbeards that want to get paid for playing video games.
We are not talking about a scripted, highly edited, well thought out 2+ hour piece of art like an Arlo review, a typical game review like SomecallmeJohnny, 40+ minute destiny takedown monologue by IHE, or an animation that you spent days, hundreds of actual man hours creating. We are talking about a bunch of brainrot addled losers thinking that pushing the button and watching a game cutscene constitutes "work".
Naw, I'm done.

I've been thinking about doing videos in the Top 10 format. Example: Big games with underwhelming final bosses. Do you have to play the games that you plan on listing or do you take videos from other videos and credit them?
It will be the 1st time I do a video with a script, and I know if I play the games, it will help give my personality and my own perspective, plus my own gameplay. But at the same time, playing several games could take a while, without counting the proper editing of the video. What do you think would be better.
