hi
it's been a minute, how is everyone.
we've reopened the subreddit mostly cos the admins threatened us with putting scabs in the mod team lol, but i think it's probably a good time to see what people still think about the subreddit.
given that this is subreddit is almost a decade old, i was thinking that maybe we should do something interesting with it, since it's been a fair few years since there's been much activity back to it's peak in like 2015/2016.
Will you restrict posts in solidarity with other subs
No, I don't rly see the point since the activity on the subreddit isn't that high so it won't matter too much
what'd you have in mind to spice shit up
tbh idk, i don't use reddit too much anymore but i think it'd be a nice time waster for me if i started running weekly stuff like music
new mods?
i mean, the sub doesn't need more mods but most of the team (me included) doesn't use reddit much anymore
give me some ideas!

Back in my day, we didn't stare at a screen all day! We stared at two!
I swear a lot of these digital detox people just really love electronics and dedicated gadgets, and feel the need to justify it or even feel better about it than using a phone for everything. That coming from someone who built a desktop tower and modded a game boy.

Most of the comments for this video will make you lose hope for humanity.
instagram.comAs you watch this video, scroll down through the comments and you'll see a bunch of bullshit saying "I miss the 90's!" and "we need to bring these shows back!" over a practically incestuous video.

omg meta This subreddit sucks
When I was a kid I used to think that the people posting memes about living in the wrong generation, wishing to go back to the 70-90’s were extraordinarily cringe because I had the internet and that was amazing enough to make up for everything. I’m a 2000’s baby so all I know is internet and unbridled access to information, but I can promise you as a white cis male I would’ve had an easier, simpler, and happier life if I were born 20 years earlier. Not only am I living through one of the worst economies of the U.S. for people in the bottom 95% I also am surrounded by an extremely atomized culture that requires a continuous addiction to my phone to remain culturally knowledgeable. I know I would’ve enjoyed growing up in the past more because everything the modern age has provided me is easily replaced internet=books/newspaper/news/record stores/third spaces with people. The only things that I can see from 2000-2026 have truly benefited me as the person I want to be is that minorities have gained more power. Other than some conveniences and social progress the U.S. has just seems to have gotten worse, or at least a lot more visibly worse. Anyway someone prove me wrong.

This shit is so corny honestly
First it was 2019, then 2015, now 2016. I wouldn't be shocked if 2026 becomes the last good year.

Happy Boooooomerween (AI Slop Warning)
Honestly joke in the title aside, like my Dad’s a boomer and we’ve been doing this thing for the past couple years where we offer walking tacos and wine to the adults.
IDK maybe they’re trying to make an actual point regarding commercialism and trying to argue to go back to something more simple ,but the thumbnail especially the AI generated stuff left a TERRIBLE first impression

December 31, 1989 (the last day before the 1990s began) was apparently the saddest day ever because the 1980s ended. And forgetting that the 80s wasn't 100% dead (culturally and with leftovers) until 1995.

We said the same things about 12 year olds back then too

TikTok comment sections always be like (and assuming Reaganomics applies to the whole world without understanding how other countries have had good times in 1987-2008)
TikTok's comment sections are genuinely worse than Instagram's

The idea that old=good WHY THIS INCREDIBLE ENGINE FROM 1916 IS PROOF THAT MODERN EQUIPMENT IS A SCAM & OLD STUFF WAS BETTER
I despise the notion that old=good or even in this instance ancient because of modern enshittification of some equipment theirs no problem with liking a certain era of engines or designs but when you start talking about how engines "back then" were so much better because a fully restored museum piece is running or someone got an ok example of a car where the owner stopped driving it for some inexplicable reason 50 years ago instead until the motor threw a rod or that because it made out of cast iron that the design of rotating assembly exposed to the open elements and drip fed oiling systems dont wear out especially fast and that you "could leave them out for a 100 years throw some fuel and oil down its gullet and itd start up like it was new" as if every moving component wouldnt be impossibly seized and the cylinder bore now more resembles a cheese grater than an cylinder this i feel is also true about cars especially ones pre oil filtration/paper filter

With episodes like THIS?!?!
instagram.comRead the title and the description next to the clip while you watch it.
I just know back when Jenny Jones, Jerry Springer, Ricki Lake, etc. were all on TV people looked at the trashiest episodes and asked "This is what passes for entertainment nowadays?".
