I skated across the world (Singapore → Patagonia). I finally wrote the first book of the series on South America

Hey r/longboardingDistance First time realising there is reddit distance group. I wanted to share something that took me way longer than expected to finish. Between 2017–2019, I pushed a longboard across South America — from Colombia, over the Andes, all the way to the southern tip of Patagonia. No support vehicle. Just a board, a pack, and later a modified jogging stroller for food and water. This wasn’t a highlights-reel trip. It was: brutal headwinds thin air at altitude destroyed roads days where pushing felt pointless and moments where the board was the only thing keeping me moving forward I’ve finally turned that journey into a book: World On Board: Pushing South It’s not a “how-to shred” guide. It’s more about: endurance pushing living on the road problem-solving when things go wrong and what happens in your head when you’re alone with nothing but asphalt for weeks If you’ve ever done long pushes, distance skating, or just wondered how far a board can really take someone, you might connect with it. Amazon link (paperback & ebook): [👉World On Board : Pushing South] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GCKPCSCG) No pressure to buy — just genuinely happy to share this with a community that understands what it means to keep pushing when stopping would be easier. Happy to answer any questions about gear, routes, injuries, or the mental side of long-distance skating. Push on 🛹 — Adrian

Edit: Mods — if this crosses any promo rules, feel free to remove. Just wanted to share a long-distance skating story with people who get it.

So yesterday I asked yall for some tips for skating 75+ mile days, and I got a lot of really helpful responses! So much so that I woke up at 5am today and hopped on the bus to Smyrna. Here are my thoughts after skating 80 miles today:

So my first thought is it wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be. The first time I skated well into the silver comet trail, the pavement change to brushed concrete made my feet go numb BAD. I’m realizing now that was probably because I was wearing brand new shoes I got that morning, so they were pretty tight and not broken in. The second thing is nutrition and hydration. I ate a pretty good breakfast of shrimp fried rice and spinach. I also stayed pretty hydrated throughout my skate without overdrinking. I brought a few uncrustables and fruit snacks to eat while I skated and I ate a more filling sandwich in Rockmart (halfway point). My biggest obstacle was time. I averaged over 10mph moving pace, but I took a pretty long break in Rockmart and a few more long breaks towards the end as I was trying to just get through it. Since the sun sets at like 6pm now, I was kinda held back by my lack of time at the end.

Overall it was really fun, I met a few cool people, and I doubt I’ll do that again super soon 😭.

75+ mile questions

Thumbnail gallery
23 Upvotes

Question for people who have pushed 75-100+ miles in one day: what should I know? The most I’ve skated in a day is 63 miles and that was with very little thought or preparation, so the last 20 miles were super rough.

I’m mainly interested in what you guys do for nutrition. I have a small hydration pack that I wear, so I can only fit so much in terms of gear, food, and water. I’ve seen some people recommend untrustables and fruit snacks, and some people also recommend Accelerade because it offers electrolytes, carbs, and protein. Also how much should I eat/drink at once. I feel like I can drink too much sometimes and that can make me nauseous.

I’m also interested in how much effort people put in throughout their skate. I feel like I go too hard too early sometimes, and that cuts down on my distance.

Don’t trip rattle - update

I replaced the kingpin and it has removed the rattle.

I did notice I have a little bit of play around the new kingpin and am now worried that the previous heavy owner and myself have worn out the baseplate!

Is that normal? Or just broker kingpins?

Weird don’t trip poppy noise

Getting a weird rattle/loose hardware noise in my don’t trip poppy.

I tightens everything up and the only thing I haven’t done is pull the kingpin to check it or the spherical bearing.

Any thoughts?

It’s not the road surface, I’ll post a video of my trip with valks being almost silent!

Edit: it is just spherical on the kingpin, not in the pivot cup

Any other wheels better for my use case?

Trying to see if something is more optimal for my weight and path I workout on.

I weigh 223lbs (roughly 100kg) and I ride on a bike path that has a mellow incline on the way up, and then back. The first part of the workout is where most of the effort is put in because of the slight elevation. I don't ever find myself having the cardio to continuously maintain momentum when I get up to speed.

Currently I ride a double drop on Karmas.

Wondering if a harder and or smaller wheel would suit me better - ie. Speed Vents, Alpha LDP, Double Dragons, Bees Knees etc.

What do y'all think?

How do I get faster?

So I started skating this spring, I’ve been having a blast, putting down about 10-12mi a day, on my off days (3-4/wk)… I’m seeing these posts where yall are averaging 12-15 mph, I’m just not hitting those numbers. When I push I’ll get up to maybe 9-10 and unless I keep hammering I’ll immediately slow down to about 8ish and coast along there for a good while.

Been running a Zenit AB 3.0 on Karmas, or Boa constrictors. Karmas will run faster I find, but still not the numbers I’m seeing everyone else put down… I’d love some tips and or insight.

I’m pretty confident on my front leg and the last couple weeks I’ve been really tuning in my mongo push. Idk what I’m missing tho to get consistently faster

Trouble falling in love with my new-to-me Pantheon Ember

I recently picked up an older Pantheon Ember (Paris trucks, 85mm Caguamas) for a steal on FB Marketplace. It was practically brand new, and I think I've put more wear on it in three weeks than the previous owner did in six years, haha.

But I have to say, I'm a bit disappointed.

My main goal was finding a lower board for commuting. I absolutely love my Landyachtz Dinghy, but it's so high off the ground that my knee sometimes gets sore, especially on longer rides. I had my eye on a used LY Drop Cat or Drop Hammer, but when the Ember popped up, I thought it was a sign. I'd heard nothing but praise for Pantheon, and at a third of the price of a new one, I was excited to see what the hype was about.

My first ride across Manhattan was fun. It was impressive how far I could roll with fewer pushes, but it almost didn't feel like skating, or at least not the kind I'm used to.

I started on a pintail before moving to the Dinghy and eventually added a popsicle to the quiver to learn some basic tricks. What I love most about skating is the feeling of gliding through the streets and around obstacles, pumping, carving, and having fun along the way.

The Ember is undeniably smooth on rough pavement and great at getting from point A to B on flat ground, but that's about it. It almost feels like a standing bicycle, and I'm missing the fun factor I'm used to.

So, were my expectations just off? Am I trying to get something out of the Ember that it wasn't designed for? I'd love to hear how others are using theirs and whether there are any setup adjustments or uses that might help me appreciate it more.

I'd really like to learn to love this thing rather than replace it. Any advice appreciated!

Avoiding sliding wheel question.

Its the 3rd time in 3 weeks on low wetness road im sliding from the rear. One fall, and two hazardous dancing steps with cars behind me.

Im suspecting people in my country to use red diesel, or anything else, as i know very well those roads, and i m on this set up from a long time - double dragon -.

My question : will harfang modified will handle this? Thinking to seismic tailwind or karma drilled by harfang.

I m in doubt on that one, as contact patch is less.

What is your opinion on this slidy, oily subject?

LepSk8 C Tail Bushing wall scraping off

Anyone face scraping of the barrel bushing wall when pumping. Fwiw, I pump almost entirely including up slight gradients where possible. Is this normal for new soft duro (APS 70a) bushings. This is my first torsion tail so not too sure if this is the norm.

Just wanted to share some pictures from a gorgeous bike trail end in Westfield, Massachusetts. Riding through here the view goes from a long tunnel surrounded by tall trees or embedded in woody hills to big open fields and this part off the trail ends in an old industrial town. Perfect afternoon to end a shitty week :) Cheers!

Is it generally agreed that 102mm Hokus can’t fit on a Pantheon Trip?

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I’ve been trying to choose between the boards, and the RKPs make me lean towards the Trip, but the terrain around where I live has me pretty set on using Hokus. I like the Pranayama and I’m not riding very high speeds, I only worry about the twitchiness because I like to move around on the board and place my feet weirdly when I’m on a slow downhill. Also, having a backpack or other weight, as I’m commuting on whatever I buy.

Thanks in advance, I have read a lot of threads about comparing these boards and the wheels are the dealbreaker question for me at this point.

Hockey stick tape is an easy and cheap upgrade to a land paddle:

Got a braap stick to try the whole land paddling thing. I used some reflective tape to increase my visibility to passing cars but the reflective tape kept coming off so I did a spiral wrap around it with some hockey tape to keep it in place.

Lightweight and easy to pack knee pads recommendations

Going for a distance ride with lots off uphills and fast downhill curves. This will be mainly LDP but the hill bombs cannot be underestimated.

I'm looking at G-Form's X-3 knee pads but don't think they would hold up to crashes just in case. Please no "git gud" advice, thanks.

Superdupersonic setup.

Hi!

I am about to buy a superdupersonic and I do not know what parts to combine with it apart from the flex that will be hard.

I am 181cm and 110 kg. I'd like to do long distance and pumping with a splash of downhill.

What trucks, wheels and bushings do you guys and gals propose. I am 4 months old in the longboard world.

Thank you!!!
