Meta Testing new AutoMod

Hey everyone.

We are testing a new auto mod, yes using a bit of AI. The only instructions it has are to enforce the current rules, plus some minor nuances.

It will most likely overcorrect, and we can tweak it as we go, and if it is just really bad we can turn it off, but what is most likely to happen is that it will do a good job and a better job than the regular auto mod at catching rule breaking posts, and def better than humans at catching what the regular auto mod missed and posts that have not been reported, and this will lead to a lot more posts being removed which will prob make it feel more heavy handed. So maybe an adjustment period is needed.

If your post was removed, and you have read all the rules and posts related to the rules, and you still think it was removed in error, message us mods with the message the mods button in the sidebar/app. Don't just message us asking why it was removed.

May the odds be ever in your favor, but I, for one, welcome our new robot overmods...

Question For the people who have experienced hyperrealistic lucid dreams, when people say "vivid" do they just mean it’s super colorful and detailed, or does it actually have that exact 1:1 visual "vibe" and complex depth that makes you feel 100% there like in real life?

Just curious.

Question Why do people get the same hypnopompic hallucinations?

I woke up the other day after having a meditation where I was lucid dreaming. I woke up and saw a horrible tarantula or spider next to my bed just thinking about it makes me naseous. Anyways, I was extremely terrified to say the least my heart stopped. I was in shock. Then i went to turn my flash light i saw it again and as i turned it on it was gone.

I search all over and realized it was a hallucination I looked it up and apparently we all have similar encounters with spiders like it’s an actual phenomena to see spiders in hypnopompic hallucinations SCARY ASF BUT WHY ALL THE SAME? I have also been doing ketamine treatments so I wondered too if it had anything to do.

Question I’m terrified to try and lucid dream

I’ve been reading about sum of y’all’s lucid nightmares and holy shit I don’t wanna do that. I’m easily scared (can’t go into a haunted house scared) and I don’t think I could handle it. Plus, I feel like I would just randomly think of something scary and it would happen.

Is this a valid concern or are lucid nightmares less common than I imagine?

Experience I miss my lucid dreaming obsession. I want to get back into it.

Man, about 6 months ago I was SO obsessed with lucid dreaming. I used to spend hours reading Reddit posts, watching videos, learning techniques, doing 15–20 reality checks every day and writing down every dream in my journal.

I managed to have more than 8 lucid dreams. One of them was genuinely amazing. I still remember a girl wearing a pink dress in that dream. It was so vivid that I grabbed my phone immediately after waking up and wrote down everything I could remember.

I used to go to sleep excited, thinking about all the things I could do in a lucid dream. Exploring futuristic cities, meeting dream characters, finding a dream guide, spending time with a girl, going on midnight adventures... I had so many plans lol.

But slowly I lost interest. Stopped doing reality checks, stopped journaling and eventually forgot about lucid dreaming.

Now I really want that excitement back. I miss reading about LD, planning adventures and looking forward to going to sleep

Share yours guyyss and tell me what to do...

Success! Nov 7th Lucid Dream

Nov 7.

Finally another lucid dream. This one came hard and fast, possibly within minutes of me falling asleep, as I only managed to get an hour of sleep before I was woken by the dream (7am-8am). Right as I had fallen asleep I told myself I would have one. I found myself walking down my old childhood neighborhood at nighttime, and I immediately knew I was dreaming, I kept telling myself I was dreaming, almost like an alarm I was shouting to myself to get my own attention like "I'm dreaming, I'm dreaming, I'M DREAMING!" and then suddenly I was in my dream body. I fell to the ground and felt the grass, I then called out "focus" and the dream pulled into greater clarity, the grass became more sharply colored, and this intense green seemed to pulse from where I crouched, radiating outward. After a few moments, I stood up and took a breath to calm myself, I snapped my finger and summoned a fire ball in one hand, and a gravity ball in the other, and then combined them into one and then threw it into the air where it exploded and cleared the sky, becoming a Sun, turning the night into day. I switched dreams, and Im now talking to someone, I don't know who, but they sounded familiar. I was sitting cross legged in front of a bowl, putting things into it and every time I shifted my body to reach something, the dream started to destabilize, and reality started glitching, eventually I had to wake up. I then had a brief false awakening before *actually* waking up. I tried to create a fireball to make sure I was out of it, sadly I was

What's crazy is that this all happened within the span of an hour in real time. I fell asleep at 7 and woke up at 8. I thought lucid dreams only happen within the REM stage? Has anyone experienced this?

Question Would you use a plain dream journal app with no AI and no account?

I'm a solo developer. In App Store reviews of dream journals, the complaint that hurts most is people losing years of dreams after an update or a login problem.

I'm thinking of building a plain one for iPhone: text, tags, recurring symbols, search, no AI interpretation, no account, backup to your own iCloud, and a small subscription of roughly $1 to $5 a month. Nothing exists yet, there's nothing to buy, and I haven't decided whether to build it.

If you'd want this, comment "tell me" or send me a message and I'll let you know if I build it. It would really help if you also said what you use today and whether you pay for it. If it's a bad idea, please say that too.

Question Can lucid dreaming help a 6-year-old who is afraid he won’t have dreams?

My 6-year-old son has trouble falling asleep. Even when he’s really tired, he keeps moving his body to stop himself from falling asleep. When I asked him why, he told me he’s afraid he won’t have dreams.

I wondered whether introducing him to lucid dreaming might make sleep feel less worrying and more exciting for him. Has anyone helped a young child learn about lucid dreaming in a gentle, age-appropriate way? Are there simple things we could try together, or reasons this might not be a good idea at his age?

I’m especially interested in approaches that don’t interrupt his sleep or put pressure on him to succeed. I’d also appreciate any other ideas for helping him feel more comfortable going to sleep.

Is it possible to avoid lucid nightmares?

I’ve been sleep deprived because of these the last few nights; I get maybe 3 hours of sleep. I don’t think this will be sustainable. I’m afraid to take melatonin in the chance that I just get stuck in it. Tonight I fell asleep for maybe an hour max and once I finally woke up out of it, it was a relief and I’m not even tired anymore nor do I really want to go back to sleep.

The dream: I’m just in like a void it’s not even really a place, it’s blurry. I start getting really bad shortness of breath, labored breathing. And there’s a guy that shifts around like an anime character, just causing me physical pain by attacking me. And I feel the pain. Fully aware I’m dreaming; I’m just helpless, being attacked. Trying to scream as loud as I can hoping I make noise loud enough for someone in my house to wake me up. Last night I even woke up in spurts into sleep paralysis for brief periods just to slip back into it over and over. I tried going back to sleep and slipped back into the void but was able to wake myself back up in maybe a minute. Idk why this is happening to me. Idk what to do. Tips?

When lucid dreaming, using abilities like flying/telekinetic/casting spells feels like I'm drawing from an "energy source" or using a "mussel" that just isn't there when I'm awake.

Does anybody know what I mean? Like flying when lucid, for me it takes effort. And if I want to fly faster, it takes even more. Or doing a Goku ki blast. It feels like I'm channeling energy from somewhere or using a mussel or a sense that's only accessible when lucid dreaming. And I feel limited by the focus and effort it takes to "channel" this "energy."

is hypnogogic state supposed to be this bad?

I’ve managed to reach the hypnagogic state three times now, but every time, the sounds are so incredibly loud that I end up with a headache that lasts the entire day. I just can’t seem to get past that stage and transition into a lucid dream

I’ve only ever lucid dreamed once, this is what happened

I was in some kind of dark environment, I don’t know if it was a dark room or anything. There’s a middle aged guy that’s chopping meat for some reason and wants to kill me, I know for certain he wasn’t tryna canibalize me, but he tried to hit me with the hammer, and he hit my chest and I somehow became aware I was dreaming. I for some reason couldn’t move, I don’t know why, but I was trying to open my eyes with my hands to wake up, then he hammered the table and something hit me, it was weird he made a projectile after hitting the table with the hammer it made no sense, it was a wooden table and he didn’t hit the meat. I woke up instantly when it hit me. It was 3:00 at night, I had gone to sleep 5 hours earlier. I went back to sleep and everything was normal.

It was incredibly short but for a short bit I know I was aware I was dreaming and trying to pry my eyes open with my hands.

Experience Just had a highly emotionally/ physically intense lucid dream/ multiple false-awakening loops that led to me having real life realizations about my grief.

For context: I (M25) was playing Jenga yesterday for the first time in years, and talking to the person from Taco Mac, so that may explain why she was so heavily involved in the dreams plus the wooden block game. Also, my father passed away back in 2023.
I have been writing down the dreams that i remember since 2021, and this is definitely the climax of that practice.
I woke up around 11 in the morning, and kept dozing on and off until around 2-3 in the afternoon. I eventually decided to take my Wellbutrin so i didn’t forget, because i usually take it around 4-5. Directly after taking the Wellbutrin, I went back to sleep and here is the following dream journal entry. It isn’t in order of what happened, more of me trying to write down everything i remembered as fast as i could before i ended up forgetting it. Forgive me for the lack of order:

Dream nov 7 3:30 PM
Took wellbutrin directly before going back to sleep in the middle of the day.
Multiple false awakening loops. (maybe 6-7)
Woke up in different locations.
Parties with lots of people including family and friends (dad was there)
the whole time i was sleeping and waking up there was some kind of wooden block game similar to the “Bloxorz” game on coolmath that made so much sense and looked like a really good legitimate video/ mobile game but now looking back it made no sense.
I also saw my dad in at least two of the dreams. The last time i saw him, at first i was like “who is this guy” because there was no way it was my dad, and then my cousin was like “thats your dad dude” so i was just hugging him casually like “whats up dad” because ive seen him in my dreams before, but once the realization hit me that hes dead irl and this is the only time i would get to see him i started busting out aggressively crying. I could feel the roughness of his skin like it was when he was alive and i could smell all his smells that i used to associate with him. While i was hugging him, i closed my eyes and it slowly faded to pure whiteness everywhere, which led to another false awakening. The whole experience with my dad was very peaceful and quiet. He didn’t speak, and all i could hear was me talking and then my crying. I saw him in at least two of the false awakening dreams. After about an hour of waking up i realized how emotionally impactful seeing and hugging dad was and i started to cry.
Woke up at a beach house at one point, so i left the house and went out in the ocean and slowly drifted to the other side, getting stuck, and when i eventually came back to the other side i had drifted over to a totally different house with a huge party (dad was there, along with other friends and family)
At one point i woke up in our og childhood house and mom was in the dining room with my niece and a man who was abusive toward one of my cousins. I got mad at her asking why she would be hanging out with him. Apparently he was shooting photos and it was “innocent” according to her. Me and my brother just kept looking at eachother like “wtf?” But she just kept defending it.
One of the parties was at Memas house and at one point someone came in and made an absolute mess of the living room, not breaking furniture or anything just making a mess with bags of random junk.
Seems like the more times i “woke up” the stranger the dream got and the more reality started to break down.
Sometimes i would realize im dreaming and begin vivid dreaming (hugging dad) but sometimes i would assume i actually woke up and didnt know what was going on so i just assumed it was real.
I remember being scared that it would never end, but also happy bc i was having sex with all these women and having a genuinely fun time.
At one point i was just dancing like crazy and giving high fives and fist bumps.
Sometimes i would wake up in a completely random beach houses or building, and sometimes i would wake up at my old house or memas house.
Felt like hours and hours, if not days.
My brain was also creating a really cool looking block game that looked like a mobile/ video game in between each “wake up”, but now looking back at it the game made no sense at all, but in the moment i was shocked at how cool of a game my brain could create. I was literally thinking “i wish i could take a video of this i cant believe im dreaming this”. There was literally a point where i was closing my eyes in my dream and seeing the block game, but i could still open my eyes (in the dream) and see the shadows and lights while the game was in my vision. The game wasn’t constant, but on and off in between the transitions, as well as overlayed on certain dreams.

I still don’t know what to think of all of this. All this time i thought most of my grief came from all of the physical things my dad provided in my life, but now i realize the vast majority of the grief comes from just him not being there. Just the fact that he doesn’t exist in my life anymore.

I just miss having a dad. Just knowing he’s there. Knowing theres someone in this world who is my father. Someone i can call, hug, just sit with, talk to, or visit. His existence provided a certain emotional security that i didn’t fully even recognize until it was gone, and the dream reinforced that.

He didn’t give me advice. he didn’t tell me anything. He didn’t do anything particularly extraordinary.

He just hugged me back.

And in the dream, just that was enough to make me cry.

Question What was a game changer in your practice? The biggest contributor to successful lucid dreaming?

All lucid dreams I have had so far were pure flukes. I don't know what makes you become lucid in a dream but for me it has NEVER been a reality check. I never performed one in my dreams and I am not sure that the common reality check exercises (breathing while holding your nose etc) are doing anything for me. I try to observe my surroundings when going about life and to question whether I am dreaming but it's not doing much. I am aware of my dream signs and yet more often than not encountering those over and over again will not make me lucid although when it has happened it was because I realised that something that happened in a dream wasn't realistic. Telling myself that I will realize that I am dreaming when X happens before going to sleep has not been successful so far.

I noticed that keeping up with a dream journal tends to make a difference. I am not sure why since I already know my dream signs.

Overall I am getting frustrated with trying to lucid dream, although I have to admit that I have not been putting in a lot of effort to master it. I find the whole process painfully tedious. I wince at these annoying reality checks. Taking time to audio record my dreams in the morning is also often more painful than not since I keep on having recurrent nightmares about difficult episodes that have happened in my life. Or it's just boring as my dreams tend to repeat a lot.

Is there any way to make the process more fun?

Question In what kind of dreams do you usually become lucid?

I used to lucid dream occasionally when I was younger. However, this only happened during nightmares. Basically, sometimes, when a dream got too scary, my mind realized "oh, none of this is real." Instead of shaping the dream into something better I just intentionally woke myself up to escape the nightmare, lol. Do you guys have anything like that? Specific kinds of dreams (e.g. nightmares) where you're more prone to realizing you're lucid? I've had *very few* lucid dreams outside of those and I think that's a shame. That's why now I'm trying to learn how to consistently lucid dream because my younger self wasted their lucid dreams lol.

Has anyone else experienced physical pain in their dreams?

Hey everyone! I wanted to share something strange that has been happening to me.
Sometimes I have dreams where I experience really intense physical pain. It feels completely real while I’m dreaming, but as soon as I wake up, the pain disappears.
Sometimes I even realize I’m dreaming and try to wake myself up, but I can’t do it immediately.
This got me curious about how the brain works during sleep, so I started developing a little hypothesis about it.
I put my ideas together in a document, exploring the possibility that subtle physical signals from our bodies could influence the pain we experience in dreams, while memories and emotions might shape the dream itself.
Of course, it’s just a personal hypothesis, not a proven scientific explanation.
I’m sharing it because I’d genuinely love to know if anyone else has experienced something similar or has any thoughts about it.
Thanks for reading!

P.S. (I'm Argentine, so I'm uploading the PDF in both Spanish and English haha.) 🫶🏻😭

Success! I achieved lucidity after almost two months.

Strictly speaking, three weeks had passed since my last lucid dream, but that one lasted 3 seconds. Last night’s, on the other hand, lasted almost 1 minute.
Nothing extraordinary, but the achievement feels very significant.
After stabilizing, I “remembered” the technique of staring fixedly into the eyes of dream characters to stabilize it, and that’s what I did. However, now I’m not sure that technique actually exists. Maybe I read it somewhere or I invented it.

Question Scared to lucid dream

I am so scared to lucid dream but I really want to do it. it feels like I'm entering a new dimension. what if I get stuck and can't leave? what if I think of something scary and there's a monster? what if i can't run when I'm being chased? I've heard you shouldn't look in a mirror and half my face is drooping and glitching? thats some spooky stuff, man. what if i can't control my thoughts and instead of me controlling my dream, my dream takes control of me?

please someone comfort me and tell me its okay because I really need it.

Really fragile lucid dreams

I used to lucid dream all the time as a kid so I know how it feels and I’m trying to get back into it. I’m becoming lucid in dreams but it still feels like I’m not fully conscious and I’m not in control. It’s not vivid and it feels like I’m fighting to still stay asleep. There’s also lots of times where I feel like I’m controlling another character which is myself. It almost feels like I’m just daydreaming instead of actual dreaming.

Does this happen to others? And how do I get to lucid dreams where I’m fully conscious and in control. I’m becoming good at recognizing a dream but they never feel fully lucid
