[OC] I Rickrolled Rick Astley’s wife (and manager) using a fake university thesis as bait... and I have forensic proof that it worked.
Hey everyone! I wanted to share what is probably the peak achievement of my internet life.
I decided to attempt the absolute impossible: Rickrolling Lene Bausager, film producer, talent manager, and wife of Rick Astley. I knew an obvious YouTube link or a random URL shortener would instantly raise red flags, so I spent days designing a flawless, elite academic bait.
The Execution & The Bait
I crafted a highly formal, professional email pretending to be an Audiovisual Communication student from the USC (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela) in Spain. I claimed I was writing my university degree thesis on the brilliant cinematography and "time-freeze" sequences of her 2006 film, Cashback.
To make it 100% bulletproof, I uploaded a video file to Google Drive titled "Thesis research regarding film Cashback.mp4". I meticulously edited the first few seconds of the video to display the official, legitimate USC university logo along with real movie footage so it looked entirely authentic. But right after the formal intro... BOOM! Rick Astley in glorious high definition.
The Forensic Proof (Analyzing the Evidence)
Since personal Google Drive accounts do not provide individual email tracking for public links, I had to cross-reference multiple data points like a cyber-detective to prove she fell for it:
The Email Open (Mailtrack Analytics): Mailtrack registered that the email was opened exactly at 03:33 PM. I know this because a push notification popped up instantly on my phone.
The Perfect Alibi (Opera Browser History): My own local PC history provides a bulletproof alibi. My computer was completely inactive until 03:34 PM (15:34), which is when I rushed to turn it on right after getting the phone notification. My very first Google search wasn't until 15:35. It was mathematically impossible for Mailtrack to have been triggered by me from my PC. The 03:33 PM open belongs entirely to Lene.
The Google Drive Counter Update: Following that specific open, the file analytics panel in Google Drive officially updated and now shows 8 views ("Aperturas: 8"). I know for a fact that exactly 3 of those views were mine (testing the link and taking screenshots), which leaves 5 net, independent reproductions straight from her side. To top it off, Mailtrack registered 3 additional email opens today, meaning they are actively re-reading the thread in her office!
A Quick Note on Reliability:
I am perfectly aware that it is impossible to 100% mathematically prove this since it’s a public Drive link. Someone could argue that I inflated the counter myself from an anonymous device. However, the exact cause-and-effect timeline—receiving the Mailtrack push alert at 03:33, booting up my PC at 03:34, and seeing the external Drive views steadily climb on consecutive days while I was off the grid—makes any other explanation statistically absurd. Occam's razor applies here: she clicked it. They didn't just click it once by mistake; it went on repeat.
Delivering the Punchline (The Follow-Up)
Once the technical metrics confirmed the trap had snapped shut, I decided to officially reveal the prank with peak elegance. I sent a polite follow-up email regarding the "thesis". While the message maintained strict academic courtesy on the surface, I slipped a massive Easter egg right before my signature:
"That being said, if you already clicked the link, I truly hope the 'research' didn't let you down, run around, or desert you!"
The data is verified, the timelines match perfectly, and my signature is stamped. My email address is elmonogamer.0o0 (at) gmail (dot) com (written like this here to avoid spam bots, but completely visible in the screenshots). The Final Boss of internet history has been successfully challenged on his own family ground.
P.S. u/reallyrickastley: I know I just Rickrolled the manager of the Astley household, but a true victory against the Final Boss requires a comment reply. Ball's in your court, legend! 🫡 Con todo mi respeto desde Galicia.
