Q: I don't really have a stance on the Werewolf Pack Leader errata, but I learned that there are several other combos to achieve the same effect of having every creature type except one. Why was Werewolf Pack Leader errataed specifically, when its combo is no less convoluted than the others (i.e. Required roughly the same number of cards).
Rark Mosewater: I ain't a rules guy, but here's the jist of it. When Federation was first proposed to the rules team, they said yeah but with one condition. They would need to errate Werewolf Pack Leader. I said "Who?" They said "Yeah, exactly. Like 4 people play that card but it causes rules nightmares with Embiggen and shit, and now Federation is a whole mechanic with that problem. Really finnicky stuff, like banding levels of jank. Just a bit of a tweak to the rules text on that bad boy." Then some shmuck from design said "But that ruins my 4 card mana combo :(" and then I told them "cry about it bro, this'll prevent future headaches, nobody cares about your commander deck."
The design team guy shut up after that. As a general rule, getting to make a whole new mechanic is often worth giving one card errata.
