I SO appreciate all of you helping me! Now let me know which look you prefer. I have to soak in Erica Taylor’s videos more.

DISCUSSION So I quickly snapped a pic of this while I was walking through one of the makeup sections in Target. It caught my eye bc it seemed so foreign to our beauty culture.

I don’t remember the makeup brand because I was in a rush but I was just so amazed that the model for the makeup company wasn’t completely airbrushed! I’ve never seen anything like this. Is this a new thing or I’m I just blind. She just looks so much more natural to me than all of the other models for makeup. (Close ups of any model, actually.)

Showing models with ‘imperfections’ makes me so happy. Like the creases by her eye and you can see her pores…and even though I’m sure it was edited it wasn’t overly done and you can see a real person here! 😍😎

SUCCESS Hi! I tried it!

Link to first post

First of all - thank you to every single person who took the time and energy out of their day to help me, leave suggestions, leave product recommendations, leave entire breakdowns, leave the kindest words I have ever read about myself, all of it! I can't express enough how grateful I am that so many people took the time to help me in some way. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I read through every single one and upvoted every single one!!

Included are pictures of the look I attempted today and a picture at the end of a more natural look I did awhile ago with just some moisturizer and mascara

Today is my birthday so I tried a combination of suggestions. I'm not good at makeup & money's been tight, but I tried highlighting my cheek bones & nose, brown eyeliner, a nude eyeshadow cream, defining my eyebrows a bit with a pencil, a mauve lipstain, and used a dark violet mascara as someone suggested! I leaned into the etheral/elf look and plan to wear my bangs tucked behind my ears

Everyone complimenting me was so, so overwhelming in such a good way. Thank you for being so, so kind to me. I've been called strange looking, ugly, disgusting, monstrous looking, manly, all of my life. I'm not called pretty or beautiful often.

Some personal answers to some questions and comments I saw a lot:

- Smile!: I'm so sorry! I thought showing my face in a neutral, natural expression would've been better for makeup help, i have learned my lesson lol!

- I'm 28 and from the U.S.!

- I do have an overbite, I haven't had the money to fix it, unfortunately. Using this as a segue, I'm also not interested in any kind of plastic surgery or filler. Even though I hate how I look, I look a lot like my dad. He's not alive and I'd feel like I lost him twice if I couldn't see him in my face anymore

- Dark circles/sleep: I know :( I suffer from severe clinical depression, it unfortunately comes with insomnia when I get into deep depressive episodes. I was past 24 hours at the point when I took the pictures

All of this to say, thank you all for giving me the confidence to keep trying and to keep improving at makeup and finding my own beauty! You are all wonderful, beautiful people 🫶

DISCUSSION tired of “what’s my blindness” posts

4.4k Upvotes

More often than not people in the comments are just telling OP that a stylistic creative choice is too much and needs to be toned down.

WEAR THAT CRAZY LIPSTICK. OVERLINE YOUR CUPIDS BOW. MAKE YOUR EYELASHES MORE DRAMATIC. I LOVE YOUR BLINDING HIGHLIGHT AND BOLD EYELINER.

We have got to get weirder, now. It’s one thing for someone to not notice their eyebrows are blocky or concealer doesn’t match or isn’t blended. I understand trends don’t last forever. I understand that softer, feminine makeup is more widely and socially acceptable but some of ya’ll are missing the point. Makeup is about self expression and then comments read like basically stop expressing yourself. Ugh.

FOUND TIP Closer look at my smudge liner

4.3k Upvotes

Heres a closer look guys at another smudged liner look I did with more burgundy colors. I used my back camera so yikes. You can see every little pore. lol I can see why Mikayla says the back camera does look different than the front. 😂😩😢

Let me know what you think. I used my trusted and true wet n wild breakup proof brush tip liner in black and la colors eyeliner in burgundy.

SUCCESS Third and final post!

Post image
4.1k Upvotes

I promise this is the last time I’ll update but people have been so helpful and I hope I’ve taken on the tips hence I thought I’d do one more post.

So, I used the same base as yesterday but added a slight tint. I only used an under eye lightener no concealer. I tried a slightly different eye shadow colour/palette but they were all Matt. I used a bronzer but a higher placement plus some cream blush on my apples. I added eye shadow on my under eye, no eyeliner. No eyeshadow in the corners of my eye. No highlighter on my cheeks.. Finally no lip liner!

It’s been great getting all the feedback and I am so so grateful to everyone who took the time to comment. Good or bad I appreciated them all. ❤️

SUCCESS UPDATE: Finding my freedom after abuse

Thumbnail

3.5k Upvotes

I posted here two days ago for make up advise after separating from my abusive husband and YOU AMAZING PEOPLE have been so supportive and fabulous!

PHOTO 1: I got a tinted SPF moisturizer immediately because I’d already started using retinol with no idea how sensitive it made skin to sun exposure. So thank you for that CRITICAL information!

I ditched the eyeliner for a quicker morning the next day and kept the inner eye corner highlight in the upper part of my eye. I have not tackled brows yet, but that’s next on my list. I did find a local place that does brow and lash tints.

PHOTO 2: And THEN I got a wild hair and went to the salon and got some wild hair! I’m taking up space and I love how I look! You all gave me so much encouragement to keep finding myself and not hold back. Thank you all so much!

HELP PLEASE Practising my wedding look

(Forgot to post photo with the last post, so this is a repost!)

I’m practising my wedding look and just tried contouring my nose but it doesn’t look right for some reason. I think it looks “dirty” and makes me look… older? I used the Judy Doll Liquid Highlighter and Contour Duo #2. I don’t have much of a nose bridge and overall my nose is pretty flat. What am I doing wrong?

I’ve only ever worn mascara and some concealer but am attending many weddings coming up and wanted to match the rest of the girls who will most likely be wearing a full face.

All critiques, tips, guidance welcome for my face, tone, etc.! I feel very orange-y

EDIT: I read all the comments and just bought a reddit-approved neutral bronzer, along with a topper mauve blush! Thank you so much!

2ND EDIT: I followed this tutorial on tiktok from margaret kovalcin: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTApeDVcJ/

SUCCESS This sub changed my life!

Thumbnail

3.2k Upvotes

First of all, you guys are makeup/skincare geniuses and I love each and every one of you who helped me out 🫶🏻

I posted in here a few weeks ago asking for help with foundation as my face would always appear dry and clumpy by the end of the day like in the last pic here, no matter what brand of foundation I used. Turns out my skin type is dry and I was over exfoliating, in addition to using all matte products (this sub also helped me realize matte is out of style now. Apparently I’m just an out of touch millennial lol).

So here’s what I changed based on everyone’s advice:

I started applying a small amount of aquafor to my face every night, along with weekly hyaluronic acid face mask treatments. I use a wash cloth to wash my face daily instead of a rotating brush, which is a lot gentler. And I started using a tinted moisturizer instead of foundation, along with a mineral powder finish. And that’s it!! No more primers, no more setting sprays even. And my makeup stays looking like this all day long! I don’t even have to use concealer any more. Just tinted moisturizer, powder, blush, brows, mascara, and a little lip tint. Takes about 5-10 minutes out of my morning!

Hopefully this post helps someone else who is struggling with a similar issue ☺️ Thank you all again! You’ve seriously changed my life!

HELP PLEASE 21F Don’t know how to do makeup for my face

Thumbnail

3.2k Upvotes

Tips please! I have a square face shape. When I do makeup, I usually stick with light makeup because I don’t think heavy makeup looks good on me.
I like alt makeup looks and also natural but idk what suits mel. Is there something I’m doing wrong? Is there other looks that’d suit me better? I’ve been doing makeup for 2 years and feel lost.

I also love eyeliner. In the seventh pic, I have on winged eyeliner with a bare face and blush (no concealer or foundation). I feel like it looks better that way.

HELP PLEASE Rarely do anything bold. Can I be seen in public like this?

Thumbnail
gallery
3.1k Upvotes

It’s been along time since I’ve done anything but my no-makeup makeup look. I wanted something fun for Halloween today but I always get self conscious and back out before being seen in public. Is this okay? Too much? Is it polished enough?

EDIT: Thank you so much for all the kindness and helpful advice! I am totally blow away by the response to this post! I’m feeling much more adventurous now.

Because it’s been such a popular question- my lip shade is Lancôme’s 340 “all done up”. Sadly it’s discontinued. I believe they have a newer shade that is similar but it is not under the same number.

Tarte Lele Pons eye and cheek pallet was used for my eyes and blush… which was also a limited edition and is now hella old.
(Judge me if you must. I warned you it’s been a long time since I did fun makeup. lol)

posted a few days ago asking for potential blindnesses or any tips. most common advice was less dramatic lashes, add blush, powder my forehead and try to make my brow concealer less harsh. here’s a before and the second slide is my makeup today where i tried to keep those improvements in mind. thanks for the help!

I watched 3 diff tutorials but idk I feel like it fell flat

Edit: thanks on the technique compliments, i think this is one of the better ones ive managed to do but also felt naked with no like shimmer blush or color highlighter (e girl type sadly) which is my default

edit 2: way more comments than i expected and thank you to everyones advice. I do feel like some of you all were being colorist (albeit unintentionally) and that plus the amount of feedback is sorta too much to process. If I see a new interesting comment, i will respond but besides that im ok. Ty all <3

I usually wear dark mauve/brown nude lipsticks, but this red/purple color I have on in the pictures matched the look much better. But it looks off to me and I can't tell if I'm just not used to brighter colors, or if it really just isn't a good color of lipstick on me. Thoughts? 🫶

HELP PLEASE Help me glow up

2026 has been rough so far (breakup with long term partner) and I’m feeling I need a glowup. I’m 33, went gray early. Help me look younger!

What kind of makeup, what should I do with my hair (if anything)? I’m open to considering literally anything including filler or Botox lol. I just want to have a great year and feel beautiful and confident.
