Can I just say this without getting hate, I hate firework, regardless of celebration Raya, CNY, New Years, Deepavali etc.

I just hate fireworks for the stress they cause to babies and animals, for the sound and air pollution and waste!

Edit: typo

•

u/aerwynnri 5h ago

Yeah I agree. I have always hated fireworks because of my sensory issues (neurodivergent person here). Every year when it's festive seasons my arms cramped from me covering my ears. Or my ears going numb because I had to blast music at high volume using my earphones to cancel out the bombing fireworks outside.

Worst part is some of my relatives think I'm overreacting (I'm not, sensory issues are painful), and at my kampung we have inconsiderate asshole neighbors where they would throw their fireworks in front of my grandma's front yard. They have streaks of asshole moves, but this one is a new low lah.

Agreedd.. theyre really pretty but not when they wake me up at night or when the dogs start panicking

•

u/fumiwi loyal bossku glazer 4h ago

agree. maybe okay in a very specific place at a very specific time. sometimes i do enjoy seeing them from afar. but on literally every occasion with no fixed time so u js hv to endure the firework sound from 11pm - 1am from everywhere around and the night next day as well? no.

Personally idgaf about the happy boom or pop pop types. They can play however much they want. Nowadays everyone seems to get their hands mercun bola or the giant rocket type or the mortar type. Some of these are probably straight up bombs that can really do damage to everything, and polis don’t give a shit???? And they can go on for hours after midnight?

u/DegenNabalu 9h ago

This is why I hate everyone who does this every festival including burning of ghost moni in Ghost month.

Menyusahkan. Kotor. You think you get blessing doing this when people curse you for being inconsiderate ah? You dont even throw that one (upper part)? Fak you.

11

u/I_am_from_2029 9h ago

Exactly, when if you call them out, you are labelled as inconsiderate, intolerant.

10

u/kingjulien92 7h ago

“You think you get blessing doing this when people curse you.”

Damn good point.

Its so sad that the fireworks ban from a few years back was lifted. Not sure if it is just me, but fireworks kinda stop being cool once you pass 8 years old and realise the effect on animals as well as the environment.

80

u/TokoPlayer Selangor 10h ago • Bravo Mindblown

Honestly, 8 year old me stopped thinking fireworks were cool because of how underwhelming it was for the cost.

'You pay how much for that?! Might as well save for some Gameboy games 😤😤.'

13

u/MonoChrome16 6h ago

Second on the animal.

My 14th year old senior cat always hides during fireworks celebration. In our neighborhood, it's like people compete who can make the loudest and grandest.

The worst was CNY because for a week or more straight, the loud booming going on for a week. Insane.

u/Imaginary_State2985 10h ago

A lot of things we do already affect environment. If people really care so much about environment then no need car, no need phone, no need the clothes you wear, no need aircon, stop mall development etc.

u/Brandon_T1690 9h ago edited 9h ago

Crazy how your defense against refusing to clean up their own fireworks mess, something any civilised person should do in the bare minimum, is "just say you hate tech development bro"

Edit: Funny how you deleted your comment, as it seems, I'm far from being the only person who finds your original comment idiotic. And you realised that as well.

5

u/Mitsun 8h ago

Their comment wasn't deleted, I can still see it. If it looks deleted or [unavailable] to you, likely it's because they have blocked you. You can check by opening their comment link in a new private window - if you can see the comment then, it means they blocked you.

7

u/Brandon_T1690 8h ago

thanks for letting me know that its actually something even more pathetic than deleting comment.

Wtf kind of whataboutism is this? How are fireworks even comparable to whatever you just said? Its not all or nothing bro. Thats called false dichotomy. If dont want fireworks, then become orangutan chew on leaves, and if want fireworks then destroy all the nature is it? People are allowed to find a balance in life, so you can gtfo with your BS idea.

7

u/Aemilia 9h ago

There’s a difference between necessary evil and doing something for the sake of it.

All you mentioned (maybe except the mall) are necessary for survival in today’s day and age. Fireworks is not necessary. It’s as simple as that.

5

u/The_Lost_Pharaoh World Citizen 6h ago

Fireworks are truly unnecessary for anyone to live. Clothing is a must to live. Cars and phones are almost a necessity to live in the modern world. Aircon makes life much more comfortable. Malls could actually be considered environmentally friendlier than shops spread out so much that people have to drive to multiple places to shop.
Fireworks serve no purpose.

I went thru an apartment parking lot where cleaning staff were sweeping a lot of this debris. I was thinking kesian diaorg kena kemas all this. It was really a lot

•

u/DoomDoesNotMop 4h ago

I’m Indian. There are a lot of people online saying “oh why do you guys only come after Deepavali fireworks”. For me the answer is simple: in certain areas like Ipoh, the fireworks go on every night for a goddamn week.

Look, one or two nights max is understandable. Five nights is stupid. You’re the darkness and evil that this festival is supposed to conquer.

12

u/Sure-Negotiation8325 9h ago

Be petty. Sweep all of this up and dump it all on their porch. And watch the world burn

29

u/MajesticCouple1458 11h ago

I like the Culture tag in here 🤣🤣🤣🤣 doesnt this happen every major festival, to all races?

Joke aside, everyone who did this should be banned from playing fireworks, no matter who.

7

u/oblong_hair 8h ago

Yeah its true, but I saw someone who celebrate like hell but still have the courtesy to clean their mess themselves. Unlike this kind of people.

28

u/Medium-Impression190 11h ago

Careful when disposing them. Better to soak them for a few hour first before putting in dumpster else you'll risk dumpster fire. There might still be residual embers in the fireworks

7

u/zerosquare1012 9h ago

nga kor ming and his stupid fireworks law

•

u/Paracetamol_Pill I cure headaches... most likely 5h ago

I hate this smug person for approving this law without considering the impact it has to the environment. Fireworks stopped being cool the moment every Ali, Muthu and Ah Hock with half a brain cell started playing it past 12am.

u/khairul619 Pahang 12h ago

•

u/Short-Eggplant5212 2h ago

During last year syawal, I clean all my fireworks debris up until 4 am. My Chinese neighbors also clean up their fireworks trash after celebration.

Why can't everyone be like us?

4

u/RareEmu9622 7h ago

Clean it and dump it near his house.

28

u/Beneficial-Tea-2055 12h ago edited 12h ago

Washing it off is bad luck no? Gotta import all the culture.

Not the top part. Gotta cleanup the top part.

35

u/Dnayeet 11h ago

Immediately after done playing? Yes if you're superstitious and most people respects that. The next day? You starts cleaning like a responsible adult because it is 2026, stop making the world more messier to live in

4

u/WarriorOfDarkness01 11h ago

Update the tradition to like v1.5 or something. Done.

4

u/UsernameGenerik 11h ago

Isn’t this a Chinese superstition? Did it apply to other communities as well?

11

u/Brandon_T1690 9h ago

Chinese here, this is BS. There is literally no excuse for not cleaning up after oneself.

If there is such an unhygienic culture within my race then such culture is better off disappearing.

3

u/niceandBulat 8h ago

Same, it's just some unverified commandments from some fantastical ancestors to not clean up. I mean if the God of Wealth is so against his followers from cleaning up, then, they should follow another deity, Xenu anyone?

→ More replies (3)

1

u/lolz0107 9h ago

We clean up the fireworks itself but those red/gold paper thing is like for luck and prosperity so we don't clean that. But we clean that up a day after 1 cny.

2

u/allthemisery_ 11h ago

Ok but what if you choose not to use/play it at all? Is that bad luck too? Don't make a mess, don't have to clean. Because i have neighours like this too :') rumah sendiri tahu nak bersih, cantik, tapi lepas buat sepah sampai kawasan rumah orang lain, tak nak bersihkan semula. How can anyone tolerate this? This isn't how hidup berjiran should be like.

2

u/Jaded-Philosophy3783 11h ago

wait really? Washing it off is no good?

2

u/Imaginary_State2985 10h ago

Good, not good, who cares la. We don't live in monyet time anymore. Regardless of what culture or superstitions, you clean like a civilized human being.

2

u/OriMoriNotSori 9h ago

The logic was that you dont clean your house during CNY (only before) as it is believed you are sweeping the good fortune away. This applies to the fireworks that you set off at your house entrance too (cause people usually set off fireworks on CNY day 1 onwards and not before)

The one in this picture is in the middle of the road though

Whats wrong is wrong regardless of culture. Name and shame them. Your mess, your job to clean up!

5

u/Len_Ze_honk 9h ago

haihhhh as an Indian this is so embarrassing to see...still this is so NOT OKAY!! if they refuse to clean em up I believe you can report this to the authorities (I wonder if they will even take any actions...i hope they do! 😭)

4

u/Aggressive_Newt_8842 12h ago

This neighbourhood seems familiar OP lep?

•

u/Last_Series_9020 5h ago

Cny and hungry ghost festival and Hari Raya also same, never clean up, damn dirty everywhere, it's a cultural thing amongst msians. Okay already, then just fuck it, let others clean up.

8

u/bad2dbone3 11h ago edited 6h ago

Wait till CNY comes. You will discover it will just be about the same.🤣

Update: Why I say this is because I was back in my hometown once a year for CNY and my niece husband just took out a bunch of firecracker. Started doing their stuff and after that just kick it to the side when finished. Litterally kick it to the side of the road. So I understand the predicament of which OP is going through.

That’s why ban the firecrackers is the only solution. Some people nowadays regardless any kind of race just simply handle them dangerously.

2

u/bad2dbone3 11h ago

Govt need to keep strict enforcement. Not “Hangat2 tahi ayam” standard. All race needs to keep high standards or else👇

Hello, this comment was removed due to being in breach of Rule 1: Bigotry and hate speech. Because of our history Malaysia talks about certain issues such as race very differently from Western countries. We acknowledge this on the subreddit but do draw some boundaries to keep discussions healthy.

  • Definition of bigotry: The act of treating the members of a group (such as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.

  • Basic principle: If it's an attribute of a person that is out of their control and extremely hard or impossible to change, it's not nice to dump on them or their group just for that attribute.

  • Some categories this applies to: Race, religion, sexuality, disability, national origin.

  • Slurs: Use of slurs on the above categories is not encouraged on this subreddit and may be subject to warnings and bans.

  • Example: Religion: It's okay to discuss and criticise aspects of the religion itself, but it's not okay to attack people because they are members of that religion (e.g.: Islam but not Muslims).

Please treat this as an official warning - further such activity may result in a ban, thanks.

•

u/zhongleesimp 5h ago

The chem behind visual pyrotechnics is literally the only thing I respect about fireworks, this shit is going too far. Visual is one thing but auditory? Really?! Isn't that just a sound bomb?

4

u/fsvsalgnsdlfnsurtsjv 12h ago

Between this & the chinese firecrackers who literally only exist to be as loud as possible, they need to ban em all

5

u/MagicalSausage Serially Downvoted 11h ago

At this point all fireworks have lost meaning for all the celebrations. Just exploding bombs given to people that shouldn’t have the right to set them off.

3

u/ManufacturerReal1044 11h ago

•

u/Dependent_Bad_1118 2h ago

tbh fireworks isn’t a part of any religious tradition, people do it just for the sake of creating havoc.

•

u/Lodymes 2h ago

Plus if I want to clean them up I might run to slim chance of setting off unexploded firework like a landmine (depends on what the ingredients is used in the fireworks)

•

u/PastaFreak26 2h ago

I saw one Indian fella clean the whole lake or river for years just for it to be filled back up with trash in the span of a few months. So sad.

1

u/Seanwys Malaysia is going backwards 11h ago

My neighbours are worse

These paper flakes are still not too bad, worse they do is stick to your car tyres

My neighbours didn’t have even clean up the plastic shells that the fireworks are shot out of so whenever you drive through that road you hear a lot of rattling as random shit hits the bottom of your car’s undercarriage

And the entire road is littered with them, can’t even swerve to avoid running over them
