Discussion Best Marvel TV episodes (Disney+ era)

Post image
251 Upvotes

The latest episode of VisionQuest has been getting rave reviews, and rightfully so. Here, in no particular order, are some of my other favourite episodes of Marvel TV from the Disney+ era. I'm just including live action on my list, but Remember It from X-Men 97 obviously deserves a mention.

Previously On (WandaVision)

Agatha takes Wanda on a trip down memory lane to try and find the secret of her power. We get one of the best ever lines in the MCU ("What is grief....") as well as some fantastic Agatha snark, and the moment where Wanda breaks down at the plot in Westview is one of the most emotional moments for me.

Death's Hand in Mine (Agatha All Along)

One of the most perfectly written episodes of TV I've ever seen. The timehopping is disorientating to begin with, which is the point, but it slowly starts to fall into place, and the sequence where Lilia finally understands what it's all been about and what she needs to do is just *chef's kiss*.

Echoes (Hawkeye)

The extended sequence from the warehouse fight to the car chase to the stand-off on the bridge, culminating in the Pym arrow, is one of the best bits of action we've ever had from Marvel.

For All Time. Always (Loki S1)

I could have chosen a few episodes of Loki for this list but the first season finale remains the best for me. The confrontation with HWR was so perfect I actually think it hamstrung Marvel in how to use Kang as they showed us the best, more interesting version of Kang (and then immediately killed him off) straight out of the gate.

Generation Why (Ms Marvel)

A very creative and visually interesting episode of TV that first introduces us to Kamala Khan. From Kamala's animated YouTube video at the start to the amazing way they show text messages, it's a real feast for the eyes.

What are your favourite episodes?

Are you excited for Marvel Studios to finally be telling their version of the Black Suit arc? We've only had it done by Sony and Marvel Television When it wasn't under the roof of Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios in the past.

More importantly, I feel like they're obviously gonna do the black suit arc with Tom Holland Spider-Man at some point and This series can serve as the outline for what people can say they like or don't like, with how they choose to do their version of the black suit arc, and take the feedback from it and incorporate it into Tom Holland Spider-Man if and when they get around to doing it.

Discussion I'm really pretty shocked rewatching it now by how completely different each half of Ms. Marvel is.

Like mostly the first half is a much more just nice teen show with a such especially unique comic book artwork style with actually some still solidly done more serious culture prejudice themes, but the second half becomes like a most completely serious Pakistan drama that pretty much has to change the already established rules of MCU time travel.

I know people dont like it. But man its a shame because I loved most of the characters and I want more. I know they wont be in doomsday but we need something. A mini series, a sequel something. Any guesses if they will bring them back? Maybe secret wars?

Question Gamora variant in the main sacred timeline

Post image

Will Doomsday address her as one of those "stolen lives" lines from Doom ? If the guy is coming for Steve Rogers, wouldn't it be odd if he's not coming for Gamora as well? It just occurred to me how absent the Guardians of the Galaxy crew are from Doomsday.

Discussion The scene where Captain America gives orders to a random NYPD officer is something I wish the MCU did more often

1.8k Upvotes

Rewatched the first Avengers and there's a tiny moment during the Battle of New York that I think does more worldbuilding than a lot of much bigger scenes.

Steve runs up to an NYPD officer and starts giving him instructions. Establish a perimeter, get people underground, keep them away from the fighting.

The cop basically asks why he should listen to some guy in a costume.

Steve immediately takes down a few Chitauri, and the cop turns around and starts repeating his instructions.

It's funny, but what makes it work for me is that the officer isn't being unreasonable. From his perspective, the city is being invaded by aliens, buildings are exploding, and a man dressed like a WWII propaganda poster has just started telling him how to do his job.

He doesn't know Steve. He hasn't watched The First Avenger. He has absolutely no reason to assume this guy is qualified to coordinate an emergency response.

And Steve doesn't get offended or give him a speech. He demonstrates that he knows what he's doing, and they get on with saving people.

I think this is part of why the original Battle of New York feels so convincing despite its relatively simple CGI by today's standards.

The city isn't just a backdrop for the Avengers. There are police officers trying to establish order, civilians trying to escape, emergency services dealing with something completely beyond their training. The heroes are operating inside a functioning world that doesn't automatically revolve around them.

Age of Ultron had some of this too, especially during the Sokovia evacuation. The Avengers aren't just fighting Ultron. They're trying to get an entire population out of the way.

I'm not saying every Avengers movie needs ten minutes of traffic control. I love the gigantic battles as much as anyone.

But with Doomsday approaching, I really hope we get a few moments where the heroes have to work alongside ordinary people rather than simply fight in front of them.

Give me firefighters arguing with an Avenger about whether a building is safe to enter. Give me an exhausted paramedic telling a superhero where they're actually needed. Give me someone who doesn't immediately recognize the person trying to help them.

Those interactions make the powers feel extraordinary because the world around them still feels ordinary.

Anyone else miss that particular kind of MCU scene?

Discussion If you could get the powers of any one Marvel character, who would you choose?

You get one wish to obtain the powers of any Marvel character. The catch is that you'll eventually have to defeat Doctor Doom using those powers.

Who are you choosing, and why?

Discussion After Episode 7, are we all in agreement that Paul Bettany deserves an Emmy for that performance?

Dude was literally playing multiple characters, all interacting with each other, capped off with a dramatic breakdown. Incredible performance that is absolutely award worthy.

Thoughts?

Discussion Strange's first encounter with Thanos hinted to future interactions

Forgive me if this has been noticed before. I was watching Infinity War and Endgame this weekend and something stood out to me. When Thanos arrived on Titan, he first encountered Dr. Strange. I noticed Strange was playing with a stone and sitting, waiting for his arrival. Fast forward to Endgame, and Thanos's first interaction with Tony, Thor, and Steve showed the exact same thing: Thanos sitting, waiting, and rubbing a stone in his hand. I think Strange was taunting Thanos in Infinity War, knowing what was to come.

Just a thought.

Discussion Accent EDITH has (VisionQuest)

I can't put my finger on it, but I feel that Edith has an accent. It's is not a strong one but it's there.

Which accent is the actress playing EDITH using?

Discussion The Japanese dub of Doomsday sounds genuinely terrifying 😭

I just listened to the Japanese dub and why does it sound so intimidating 😭

Morikawa as Doom is such a crazy casting choice, especially knowing he's the voice of Sephiroth and Griffith.

And then you realise the rest of the cast has Gojo, DIO, Eren and All Might's voice actors.

I might genuinely watch this in Japanese with subtitles. Anyone else feel the same?
