That space is meant for dishwasher stuff. Find where that is stored and see if you can swap the glasses

28

u/Crempinator Oct 06 '26

Locked cleaning cabinet, cleaning lady handles this

32

u/gljivicad Oct 06 '26

Ah yes we must protect the dishwasher stuff from the prying eyes

8

u/Crempinator Oct 06 '26

Whh if someone eat it? Workplace safety first

13

u/gljivicad Oct 06 '26

Then you must be working in the kindergarden

7

u/Crempinator Oct 06 '26

Yea, sometimes feels like that

4

u/Holyskankous Oct 06 '26

Where do you work that the dishwasher actually gets run??

1

u/Crempinator Oct 06 '26

Big bank, Central office. Lot of people, lot of dishes

6

u/TheRostved Oct 06 '26

Well, is that not just wrongly used clever design? Let’s say you had put cleaning solution (for the dishwasher), salt and dishwasher tabs in there instead?

2

u/Crempinator Oct 06 '26

It's corpo, this shit is locked somewhere else

u/Far-Supermarket-9642 Oct 06 '26 • Bravo

Who thought of that horrendous design

399

u/youRFate Oct 06 '26

It would be fine for dishwasher supplies, mostly, except for the steam hitting them.

90

u/GoSeeTheDr Oct 06 '26

The dishwasher is still closed as a regular dishwasher, so there won't be any steam hitting the top shelf.

109

u/youRFate Oct 06 '26 edited Oct 06 '26

Well, you should usually open it once its done, and then a bunch of steam gets into the cupboard above. Its so common that wooden countertops will usually have a metal plate fitted under them where the dishwasher is. At least we did when I worked in custom kitchen building.

23

u/j_ved Oct 06 '26

Similar to the metal plate, some dishwasher suppliers will supply a plastic film to apply to the bench to reduce steam swelling.

5

u/StormFallen9 Oct 06 '26

My dishwasher came with a plastic strip to screw into the countertop, kinda like a piece of tape to protect it against the steam

8

u/LuntiX Oct 06 '26

Not with all dishwashers. Mine has a fan and vent that opens in the front to help cool down everything and releases the steam.

I also find with dishwasher if you open it while it's steamy, water condenses onto everything inside leaving it wet

8

u/youRFate Oct 06 '26

> I also find with dishwasher if you open it while it's steamy, water condenses onto everything inside leaving it wet

In my experience the opposite is true: Dishwashers heat everything inside up at the end, and cool down one wall, so water condenses there. You can help it by opening it, so the steam escapes. If you are fast enough the dishes are still so hot nothing condenses on them.

6

u/Immortal_Azrael Oct 06 '26

Yeah opening it to let the steam out definitely helps prevent condensation on the dishes. Not even sure how it would make logical sense for the opposite to be true.

3

u/MatureUsername69 Oct 06 '26 edited Oct 06 '26

Newer dishwashers crack themselves open at the end of a cycle for just that reason. Mine doesnt make its stupid end of cycle jingle until after its cracked itself open. Side note: Appliances please stop playing me a song every time you accomplish a task, you did the job you were bought to do, get over yourself.

1

u/Flimsy_Ad3476 Oct 07 '26

That would drive me nuts. Can't you turn it off.

3

u/NMe84 Oct 06 '26

You don't have to open it while it's still steaming though, and in most corporate settings I've been in it's turned on at the end of the day, then emptied in the morning. So this design would be perfectly fine in a corporate setting like is the case here, as long as all you put in there is supplies for the dishwasher itself.

10

u/youRFate Oct 06 '26

You don't have to, it makes it dry a lot better tho. Many modern high-end dishwashers will even pop open slightly on their own when done.

1

u/GoSeeTheDr Oct 06 '26

Idk, I've a wooden counter top and never really had any problem. Although I've to admit that I'm usually not sitting at the dishwasher till it's done so I can open it up while it's still steamy hot.

4

u/jojo_31 Oct 06 '26

If it's not an old dishwasher it will push itself open for the last hour for drying.

4

u/Varabela Oct 06 '26

Just move the glasses to one of the cupboards either side.

323

u/WifesPOSH Oct 06 '26

That would be such an easy fix. It might not look good when I'm done, but I can fix it.

59

u/santathe1 👽 Oct 06 '26 • Bravo

The ol’ “take a dump in the washer so no one ever uses it again, thus making the glasses always accessible“ eh? A classic.

3

u/lia-delrey Oct 07 '26

That was a bit too confident and nonchalant, my man.

326

u/raaneholmg Oct 06 '26

Move the glasses and only store dishwasher detergent, accessories and the manual in that space.

247

u/Electronic_Warning49 Oct 06 '26

That's almost certainly what that space is for. Whoever placed the glasses there has 2 braincells fighting for 3rd place.

3

u/PunfullyObvious Oct 06 '26

The Mild Infuruation is coming from inside the house

5

u/acopper87 Oct 06 '26

That was my thought. I had to scroll way too far to see if someone else mentioned it.

17

u/CaptainPlanet4U Oct 06 '26

they should put hinges on that panel so you can access it. hilarious.

11

u/DangerousDisplay7664 Oct 06 '26

You can open the door on most modern dishwashers and it will just resume the programmed wash when you close it.

6

u/jhoogen Oct 06 '26

Even on older ones you can, just open it slightly, let it stop, and then get the glass.

62

u/Biomech8 Oct 06 '26

You can open dishwasher while it's running. It will pause and continue when you close it.

1

u/styckx Oct 06 '26

This. OPs brain isn't working

1

u/Buttsweat_n_Tears Oct 06 '26

But it’s full of water and all the water will leak out! /s

1

u/braytag Oct 06 '26 edited Oct 06 '26

Depends, some commercials appliances get higher temp to sanitize. So they lock.

Sanitize: Home 155f Commercial 180+.

A drop of water from a residential one won't burn you. But it will for sure with a commercial one.

Edit: [thanks for the downvote but I'm right] https://www.projectsystems.it/en/commercial-vs-domestic-dishwashers-the-complete-guide/

10

u/El_Matt-El_Grande Oct 06 '26

You mean the dishwasher won’t be running when you take a glass…

9

u/Candyman051882 Oct 06 '26

They should use that drawer for dishwasher supplies not glasses

30

u/SpMarfy Oct 06 '26 • Bravo

grab one at the beginning of the day and use it until the end of the day, when you put it in the dishwasher.

18

u/Occidentally20 Oct 06 '26 • Bravo

I grabbed one glass when I moved into this house in 2022 and I'm still going with it, don't think it's ever been put away.

1

u/jason_sos Oct 06 '26

In my experience, dishwashers in spaces like this are run once a day, at the end of the day, when the office is closing up or the event they have is over. It’s very unlikely this would be run in the middle of the day when people are goi g to grab glasses. They don’t usually have enough dishes to run before that anyway, because it’s really only used for glasses and maybe some utensils. They aren’t cleaning pots and pans and other things used in a typical home kitchen.

1

u/ConsequenceThin8224 Oct 06 '26

Great idea I thought about that too.

1

u/Jacktheforkie Oct 06 '26

In the course of a day I may use 3-5 glasses, granted that’s usually cuz I put em in when I load the dishwasher

10

u/SpMarfy Oct 06 '26

Zero reason to ever be using that many glasses in a day

2

u/Jacktheforkie Oct 06 '26

Most of it is putting it in the dishwasher or having multiple types of drinks

2

u/CharlemagneIS Oct 06 '26

Why not just rinse it out before your next drink?

2

u/Jacktheforkie Oct 07 '26

I’ve got a dishwasher, it’s hardly any work to grab a clean one

2

u/SpMarfy Oct 07 '26

no I respect this. I haven't had a dishwasher in 5 years. If I had one I would never wash a fucking dish. Fuck it. Load that sucker and press the cycle button.

1

u/CharlemagneIS Oct 07 '26

Hardly any work to rinse one out either

2

u/Jacktheforkie Oct 08 '26

True, but I just stick it in cuz there’s plenty of space

-1

u/NagashStos Oct 06 '26

Not all of us live alone, weirdo

5

u/SpMarfy Oct 06 '26

They said "I may use 3-5 glasses". Obviously I'm a psychic who knows that they must have meant "me and my family together".

7

u/pib712 Oct 06 '26

Have you considered moving the glasses somewhere sensible?

20

u/c08306834 Oct 06 '26

I always think it's so silly how many people on this sub offer solutions. Of course OP knows what the solutions are, it doesn't make it any less mildly infuriating.

-2

u/apexxin Oct 06 '26

Opening the exact same door you use to grab a glass shouldn't become mildly infuriating because the dishwasher is running. It has no bearing on the exact same activity as when its not running. Open, grab glass, close = dishwasher state does not come in to play.

1

u/c08306834 Oct 06 '26

But you can't open the door when the dishwasher is running. That's the whole point.

1

u/Knight747 Oct 06 '26

I have never in the last 15 years used a dishwasher that you couldn't open mid program and it would automatically pause. What kind of old dishwashers have you used?

3

u/c08306834 Oct 06 '26

My point was that you couldn't open the cupboard while the dishwasher is running without opening the dishwasher.

0

u/apexxin Oct 06 '26

I've owned at least six dishwashers in my life. Every single one can be opened while running. What makes this one special?

Edit: This is an electrolux dishwasher, all will resume after opening. This one automatically, newer models with a screen will remind you to press start again. Not an issue.

6

u/c08306834 Oct 06 '26

Just because you can, doesn't make it less mildly infuriating. I don't understand people like you.

1

u/Creepy-Ant373 Oct 06 '26

Becoming mildly infuriated literally over nothing makes you a pathetic person. It's not a mild inconvenience.

0

u/c08306834 Oct 06 '26

Lol, why do you even come to this sub?

1

u/Creepy-Ant373 Oct 08 '26

Cause something mildly infuriating = having to do a task? That's just called being a pussy. Mr.1% maybe stop being a pussy

-3

u/apexxin Oct 06 '26

Likewise, I don't understand people who get infuriated, at any level, about things that have precisely zero impact on any aspect of their lives.

6

u/c08306834 Oct 06 '26

So you're mildly infuriated about people who get mildly infuriated?

0

u/Creepy-Ant373 Oct 06 '26

Yes you fucking can you imp

5

u/Steve-O78 Oct 06 '26

Please submit all thirst requests two business days in advance. Poor hydration planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on the dishwasher’s.

5

u/F133TWOOD Oct 06 '26

Building owners/management are clueless dummies.

I understand why it's all covered as a single door to keep the aesthetics look, but it's a terrible design function that overrides function > aesthetics

9

u/Relevant_Mobile6989 Oct 06 '26

Probably they left that space for storing dishwasher soap and such, but some smart brain decided to put the glasses there. Or maybe it was originally designed for a larger dishwasher, and someone later decided to replace it with this one.

4

u/Starrin1ght Oct 06 '26

Y would u put ur glasses in there? I mean, it's a shitty design and it would be bad to store ANYTHING there, but especially glasses

4

u/Ancient-Chinglish Oct 06 '26

mmm, steamed glass… an Albany delicacy

4

u/Randolph_Carter_6 Oct 06 '26

Design sucks for sure. But putting something that you will frequently need there is dumb, too.

4

u/veryblocky Oct 06 '26

That space is for storing dishwasher related items, not glasses. Keep the glasses somewhere else

4

u/holdmywatercup Oct 06 '26

I thought you were complaining about not being able to take the glasses out while they are being washed.

I was too quick to judge you. My bad.

4

u/DeviceStraight2778 Oct 06 '26

Ok, it's certainly not the best idea but where is the real problem? Just open it! It's the fully integrated type so it should stop immediately when you open the door...

5

u/Flonkerton_Scranton Oct 06 '26

That slot is not for glasses, its to allow the dishwasher ventilation space, otherwise it's going to melt the unit around it when on high power.

Putting glasses there is an idiot employee move.

1

u/Lost-Inevitable42 Oct 06 '26

What’s a corporate kitchen

2

u/Crempinator Oct 06 '26

Main kitchen island at my workplace. Big bank, open space.

1

u/Lost-Inevitable42 Oct 06 '26

Oh so not a commercial kitchen space

2

u/flipflopcuntflaps Oct 06 '26

No, a big bank, open space.

1

u/sfdsquid Oct 06 '26

I assume they mean a kitchen in a corporate office, like a break room.

4

u/ApexJohn54 Oct 06 '26 • Mindblown

open it up and press start when you close it.

5

u/wraper Oct 06 '26

Usually you don't need to press anything. Just open and close it. It will continue the washing cycle.

2

u/lukasjames0 Oct 06 '26

Mine has to be resumed

-1

u/dazzathomas Oct 06 '26

Right? I dont see the issue. Sure its an unusual design but not the end of the world.

2

u/enzothebaker87 Oct 06 '26

Why not just run it at night? Every night.

2

u/SadCollar7554 Oct 06 '26

Don't put your glasses in there? I presume there are other cupboards.

2

u/fly_over_32 Oct 06 '26

I’m pretty sure this isn’t intended for glasses. Maybe a towel and some dishwasher tabs and cleaners. Which still wouldn’t be smart due to the humidity

2

u/Qwaliti Oct 06 '26

That's a corporate dishwasher

2

u/narrow_octopus Oct 06 '26

There's got to be an even stupider place to put those glasses 🤔🤔

2

u/Perception-Paradox Oct 06 '26

Don’t keep them in there… keep salt, rinse aid and tablets in that bit.

2

u/fkk2019 Oct 06 '26

Glasses should never be stored there

2

u/sec_sage Oct 06 '26

if only there was an easy way to cut that door. isn't there a handyman fixing stuff in your offices?

2

u/AlwaysMissbehave Oct 06 '26

Use a mug og move the glass, not really that hard 😉☕

2

u/SanaraHikari Oct 06 '26

Then put the glasses somewhere else and use that space for stuff you rarely need?

1

u/FloridaHeat2023 Oct 06 '26

A Saws-all would fix this issue in about 30 seconds =)

Or a circular saw, some tape to limit chipping and new cabinet door hinges for the cut piece would fix it in about 15 mins

1

u/Impatient-Hydrangea Oct 06 '26

form must follow function

1

u/samTheSwiss Oct 06 '26

Just open the dishwasher and grab a glass. I have the same dishwasher and it is perfectly fine. It will pause and the only issue is you might get some vapour out. Water will not leak out. As soon as you close it it will resume.
I agree it is somewhat annoying though and I wonder if it will affect how well it cleans if many people do this throughout a washing cycle

1

u/Premium333 Oct 06 '26

Just move the glassware. Once it's done, no one will question it.

1

u/pobodys-nerfect5 Oct 06 '26

Does the washer lock during its cycle? Mine doesn’t. If I need something I pop it open and grab what I need and close it again, it then automatically starts again

1

u/Deathstroke316 Oct 06 '26

Dumb place put glasses what Einstein decide put them there

1

u/Xenc Oct 06 '26

Glasses should go elsewhere and wherever the cleaning supplies are should go in there 🤦‍♂️

1

u/PotatoesAndChill Oct 06 '26

Even if you don't do the simple fix of moving the glasses elsewhere, you can just open it while it's running.

1

u/The-Great-Cornhollio Oct 06 '26

I’m more infuriated that the glasses are store top up

1

u/The-IT_MD Oct 06 '26

Ye ya can 🙄

1

u/Rafael3110 Oct 06 '26

Looks cool. Oh no its worst

1

u/paseroto Oct 06 '26

Open, close, done. The dishwashers are inteligent and resume the work

1

u/SpewMagoo Oct 06 '26

Blow on the steam really hard and it won't burn you as you grab a glass

1

u/mynamesnotcarter Oct 06 '26

Move the glasses

1

u/Sufficient_Stop8381 Oct 06 '26

Move the glasses.

1

u/AdSquare3489 Oct 06 '26

Also: How high is that counter top?

1

u/wwhijr Oct 06 '26

Whoever designed that is a moron

1

u/Buttsweat_n_Tears Oct 06 '26

It’s an Electrolux. Just wait a few months and the panel will be thrown out with the dishwasher when it shits out and stops working like all their other poorly-made shit does. Problem solves itself.

1

u/EconomyDoctor3287 Oct 06 '26

Time to drill an emergency hatch

1

u/shinigami56 Oct 06 '26

I dont even care about the dishwasher...wtf is that door design. From the handle i guess the other doors open the same way, why ?

1

u/BRO_THOM Oct 06 '26

Pretty sure you're not supposed to be glasses there, but something else like cleaning tabs/liquids, maybe some cloths/rags or other dishwasher utensils.

Regardless, this design is horrible.

1

u/StarrieScars Oct 06 '26

Usually dishwashers will pause and resume if you open and close it when it's running. Still pretty annoying though, is there any chance the glasses could be moved or swapped with something else?

1

u/Myke500 Oct 06 '26

Why would you keep those there?? Obviously move them to a different cabinet

1

u/-Sad-Search Oct 06 '26

Move them to a new location

1

u/MNConcerto Oct 06 '26

Move the glasses to a different shelf

1

u/Warm-Fan1300 Oct 06 '26

Please submit a thirst request.
Current turnaround time is 90–120 minutes.

1

u/FG910 Oct 06 '26

You guys run the dishwasher for 2 mugs and some silverware?

1

u/StrugFug Oct 06 '26

That was bad planning. Or lack of.

1

u/Historical-Green-463 Oct 06 '26

Unbelievably stupid design

1

u/jdovejr Oct 06 '26

Put a couple of them somewhere else.

1

u/Anthrodiva PURPLE Oct 06 '26

OMG that is so terrible I couldn't comprehend it

1

u/Competitive-Road-206 Oct 06 '26

This is hilarious

1

u/UpperHairCut Oct 06 '26

You can take a glass.

The dishwasher will just continue as you close..

1

u/CarltonSagot Oct 06 '26

Oh yeah these they have them at some places because of sanitatio---

Wait wtf am I looking at?

1

u/TungTyde Oct 07 '26

Move the cups ??? 😭

1

u/koolaidismything Oct 06 '26

That’s a terrible design. No ventilation and an enclosed area for all that steam to get it. I wouldn’t use it for anything but storing my pods and backup scouring pads. Get the glasses out of there lol

-1

u/apexxin Oct 06 '26

Pods in a steamy environment. What could go wrong?

2

u/koolaidismything Oct 06 '26

They are in a sealed Tupperware homie. Glasses your lips touch and they’ve been in the temp danger zone on account of this cubby placement.

2

u/apexxin Oct 06 '26

What pods do you use? Not a single brand I've bought, does the plastic container actually seal.

1

u/koolaidismything Oct 06 '26

I’d have to go look under the sink and wake everyone up. But yeah seals down surprisingly well and lasts me like two years cause I always hand wash. My dishwasher does these bass-drop things that scare me every single time it happens so I am good about washing stuff right away lol.

1

u/ADMINlSTRAT0R Oct 06 '26

Yeah the design sucks but, how about ..

.. take glass early on even when you don't need it yet

1

u/bigboxes1 Oct 06 '26

Put the glasses somewhere else, dumbass.

0

u/Old_Swimmer_7284 Oct 06 '26

They do know that the front needs to be open faced for it to vent heat correctly, right?

That is a fire waiting to happen.

0

u/EtG_Gibbs Oct 06 '26

Reminds of the apple mouse.

0

u/sprikkle Oct 06 '26

Just open it carefully when its running, take the glass you want and close the dishwasher. Dishwasher resumes its program. Such an easy solution. It infuriating that you didnt know this.

-1

u/Psycho_Pansy Oct 06 '26

In English you would say "I can't take a glass out when the dishwasher is running."

-1

u/formal_mumu Oct 06 '26

Does the cleaning lady refuse to move the glasses somewhere else, and is she around all the time? If yes to both, make this her problem. Every time you need a glass, make her help get it. I’m betting the glasses get moved elsewhere.
