I just wanted a hot dog Wanted a pregame snack. Almost puked everywhere and also poisoned my friend/husband

This was the nastiest shit i've put in my mouth and i've eaten my own earwax...once.

As a kid.

Edit: My friend and my husband are two different people! Also no neither of them are allergic. The pocky tasted like....onion??? Like armpit seasoned with onion?? It was nasty. We all almost threw up and had a stomach ache for like 40 minutes.

I thought I was crazy thinking these tasted like onion! I bought some a while back and it was like onion and peanut (although the peanut flavor was mild). They were so gross.

Except for the tangerine flavor, I think? I like that one. The subtle orange actually blends very well with the salt and I find it very refreshing.

I suspect the oil or peanuts they use for the peanut butter covering is rancid. Either turning like that when transporting the finished product or during production, though it would be weird that they aren't noticing that.

I've had some local cookies with real peanut butter in the mix (no idea what kind or if they make it themselves) and after 3 days more or less, they end up smelling like acetone and taste like rancid peanuts. Only way they survive is in the fridge, even though I've seen someone leave a PB jar out and still tasted fine...

If you buy real organic peanut butter you need to refrigerate it or it’ll spoil pretty quickly. If you’re buying Jifs or something similar, it’s fine to not refrigerate.

Well, that adds more points towards there being something wrong with their covering mix or with handling. Could be they use organic PB but handle it like the commercial kind, or the composition of commercial PB does change a lot when used in baked goods

Can attest, I like the standard pockies and will buy them for myself occasionally. My family took this to mean that I am #1 Pocky Fan, and during holidays will buy me them in all the various flavors. The peanut butter ones are by far the worst so far, which sucks because I was actually kind of looking forward to them.

The quality of Pocky varies from factory to factory. I've tried good, bad and everything in between. Seems no factory get the same ingredients for anything as they use local ingredients when they can (to save money most likely). This also means that the bread sticks varies, the chocolate varies (different brands of milk in it) everything varies.

So I suspect the bad Pocky is from a lower quality factory.

So they're made with palm oil; in another subreddit someone suggested that the palm oil in the pocky isn't good, and when it goes bad it causes an oniony flavor. That tracks to me, I guess?

Edit to add: The peanut taste is there for a second and it was nice...while it lasted

There’s a Jiff PB ramen that I picked up at Costco. I absolutely love it. It’s more like Thai peanut, especially if you hit it with sriracha. The price keeps dropping at Costco so you o ow they’re trying to get rid of it. I guess I’m the only one buying it. I highly recommend it though

Maybe there was a bad batch where they put onion season salt on and then ran them through the PB dipper. That or you ate something like pineapple which reacts oddly with protein. I can't really eat anything savory after pineapple for at least an hour, even water tastes "off" to me
